We are in the midst of winter here in the northern hemisphere and as such it means that certain types of fragrances are now out of the window and other can come back into use. There are many colognes which are only useful during the more extreme months of the calendar and while this can be a bad thing when your favorite scent melts in the hot summer months, it also can mean finding a great cologne that performs exceedingly well in the dead of winter. For this list, I have included a great many options as well as linked to any reviews I have done thus far or other top scents for each designer. These colognes are linked out to fragrancex.com for ease of purchase and more information.
Pi– A sweet blend of vanilla and almond with underlying notes of cedar, rosemary, and mandarin to give it a dash of woodsy and citrus flavor. Pi is another very good option for those who enjoy vanilla (along with Le Male and Opium) and is best served for use in winter. Longevity is pretty hit or miss. Top Givenchy Scents
Kouros Body– A sweet cologne with a spicy kick to it. Kouros Body is not a heavy fragrance but one that performs very well in the cold weather. Eucalyptus and incense are two of its notes that give it its beautiful aroma. My review
Angel (A*Men)– The most popular Thierry Mugler fragrance for men. It is strong, long-lasting, and gourmand sweet. It’s profile during the winter is really great, just go light with the sprays. Top Thierry Mugler Colognes
Dior Homme– Dior is an expensive scent but one that spells class all the way. It is a moderate scent in that it isn’t overpowering but has an underlying energy and elegance about it. Best Dior Colognes
Silver Mountain Water by Creed– An interesting and classic choice for the late winter and early spring months. My review
Bvlgari Pour Homme– A very nice designer fragrance, which is moderate and balanced enough for daily use.
L’Homme by YSL– A great everyday wear for the man who carries himself with a sense of confidence and maturity. It is a moderate fragrance that works well from the boardroom to an evening spent out.
Versace Eros– A warm and sensual scent from Versace. This one has a layered richness to it with hints of vanilla and cocoa to it. A rather strong fragrance, so don’t overdo Eros. Read my full review
Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier– A very popular cologne which has a soft spiciness to it and is highly attractive. Read my review
Dirty English– This is a fantastic option for guys who are on a budget and want a cologne that isn’t ambiguous but wholly masculine. Dirty English has a great energy to it and is a fragrance that really pops.
Joop!– An inexpensive choice for guys. This one performs well, especially in the nightlife. Joop! has a sweet spiciness that settles into an almost powdery scent.
