I am a fan of Burberry fragrances for everyday wear, especially for the younger crowd, as this design firm makes affordable choices which smell very good and perform well for many different occasions. Today, I want to focus on Burberry Brit Rhythm for Men. This is another addition to the great run of scents produced by Burberry, albeit one that might not enjoy very much esteem from niche fragrance collectors. In this post, I want to take a bit of a close look at Burberry Brit Rhythm and review its pros and cons.

My Full Wear Review

Brit Rhythm is a nice change of pace from many colognes that are geared more towards younger men. A lot of those types of scents are extremely sweet or fruity, which isn’t bad, but isn’t always what we want as guys to smell like.

This isn’t to say that Burberry Brit Rhythm is wholly unique, but it does deliver a beautiful scent best suited for autumn and the early spring months.

While I’m on the topic of its uniqueness, it does have similar qualities to fragrances such as Chanel Allure Homme Sport, Gucci Guilty, and Armani Code.

Again, those are all great scents but Rhythm is available for a much cheaper price in most cases. This is a cologne which screams value. Plus, it doesn’t completely mimic any one of them. Just shared characteristics.

It opens for me with the lead leather note, juniper berries, tonka, and verbena. It starts out sweet, but again, it never comes across as that sweet to my nose. The scent itself is masculine, with its leathery notes, but has an underlying energy which makes it both intriguing and attractive.

Its aroma is fresh with a touch of sweetness, though, rooted in a cedar woodsy base with patchouli thrown in. An energetic outdoorsy smell, thanks to a cedar note.

The dry down, is where it really transforms from that opening of tonka and juniper to more of a leather and patchouli blend with some tonka and herbal undertones. It’s all very fresh and quite wearable.

It has a drier aroma, coming from the base, but it maintains some level of creaminess or sweetness to it thanks to that tonka note. Which, at times has a powdered scent as well. But, that isn’t too prominent to my nose.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

Rhythm projects itself well and doesn’t overwhelm your own senses or that of those around you. Not a bomb, but solid, and won’t go unnoticed. It’s above average, so no real complaints. It isn’t one to leave a huge scent trail behind, unless you went wild with the sprays.

It lasts fairly well also, I’d say 6-8 hours, which isn’t outstanding but works just fine for most guy’s purposes. With an inexpensive bottle, you’ll get your money’s worth.

It really depends on the day and the climate, as to what I get from Rhythm. Either way, those last few hours aren’t going to be strong.

It isn’t too heavy of a fragrance. So, you will be able to get use out of it beyond just late autumn and into winter. I wouldn’t be using it in the heat. Though, it the more moderate temperatures of spring, Rhythm works just fine.

This fragrance is also a versatile one which can be worn out, at work, school, or anywhere really which boosts it higher in my book.

Brit Rhythm is pleasant and attractive in a non-descript way. People really won’t know what it is, but it is a simple grab, that can get complements.

It doesn’t stray too immature or too serious. As far as age range goes, it casts a pretty wide net.

Overall Impressions of Brit Rhythm

If you are looking for an inexpensive scent that is fresh, masculine, and great for everyday wear then I would say Burberry Brit Rhythm is definitely a solid option.

Younger guys on a budget, could do a lot worse than this cologne, but this really is a good performer at this pricing point.

Though, I admittedly enjoy the original Brit more. If you’re a guy who wants something really unique or a bit more advanced, there is plenty else out there. However, this Burberry flanker is nothing to scoff at, and actually pretty darn good.

The leather, tonka, and woodiness are great together and give you plenty to enjoy. It’s not a cologne that screams for attention, but does a whole lot well. No major weaknesses, but not spectacular either.

Burberry is a highly popular British design house which includes on its roster of fragrances, many top sellers in both the male and female markets. While the company offers mass-market designer scents, most of their products retain a sense of elegance and refinement, for which the brand is known for.

In this post, I want to take a closer look at the company’s namesake cologne, Burberry for Men eau de toilette, and examine whether or not it delivers value for the average guy seeking a great cologne. Check out my Best Burberry Colognes post!

My Full Review

Burberry for Men is casual cologne for the gentleman. This fragrance is not loud or obnoxious, rather, it exudes a refined subtlety that is perfect for everyday wear.

This flagship cologne from Burberry has a spicy and woodsy scent to it, like Burberry London, but it offers up smoother citrusy note (bergamot) which really sets the two apart (another smooth Burberry choice is Brit).

The opening is fresh with a mint/cedar/amber blend that is fine mix of a cool spice with warmth provided by the amber. It is quite attractive in how understated yet utterly alluring it can be. Also, that bergamot note is there to play off of the mint in a light pseudo-mojito vibe.

The spice on this one is also understated, especially as Burberry for Men begins to dry down, at that point it begins to take on the woodsy or earthy notes and settles into a fragrance with a lot of masculine charm. There lots of cedar and sandalwood, with lavender calming things.

This newer bottle that I purchased in 2018, is quite dry and smooth, after about an hour or so. There are herbal/floral elements dancing around in the background, but I mostly get the mint, cedar, lavender, and sandalwood, as the main core of it.

Sillage and Longevity

I would say that it probably rates as slightly above average in terms of its how long it lasts on the skin, it will last a full workday, won’t quit early but don’t expect it to pull overtime either. 7-8 hours seems about right, on my skin.

Projection wise it is a pretty moderate fragrance. It doesn’t take over but it gets the job done quite well.  (Also see: Burberry for Men vs Burberry Brit Comparison)

Versatility

Seasonally, I find that it can work year round, for the most part. I usually avoid wearing it in the high heat of summer, but I might if it is a more moderate day. Mostly, I like it in autumn through springtime, but don’t wear it too often in winter, as I have so many other options for that period of time.

Update: I’ve gone through my entire bottle and I mostly used Burberry for Men in the first half of autumn and then some in spring.

What I really enjoy about this fragrance is its smoothness. There are too many colognes that can be way too harsh and take over any room a man steps into.

Burberry, is like a good utility player, it is versatile to wear to both work and out for a night on the town and is wholly pleasant, even if it isn’t necessarily a in your face standout.

I’ve worn Burberry for Men on dates and it felt like it was in the right place. I could wear it casually or when close to a woman, that’s what makes this such a solid addition to any man’s collection.

Though, I will say that this will mostly be something that younger guys go for. This Burberry fragrance is a good one for high school and college aged guys, while not feeling completely cheap or being relegated to just that demographic.

Overall Impressions of Burberry for Men

All in all, Burberry for men is a fresh and smooth everyday scent, that won’t jump out as something wholly unique or spectacularly in your face. It is a fragrance which stays in the background of one’s life and earns its keep by adding a bit of class to it.

The more I’ve worn Burberry for Men, the more that I’ve come to appreciate it. It seems to alternate with Brit and London as my favorite scent to wear from this brand. Though, I’d put it as my third choice, as of late.

It all kind of depends on my mood that day, as they all seem to fit in just fine during the fall and winter months. You can usually find a bottle at a good price nowadays and I’m using the little 1.7 oz one that I bought, on a regular basis. Still dig it.

It’s unique, stylish, and different from most of the offerings that have come out in the last decade. Burberry for Men doesn’t feel dated at all. It’s a nice value play and one that I can return to time and time again.

Burberry Brit for Men

Despite the overwhelming popularity of my post on the top smelling Burberry fragrances for men, I had yet to do a review of Burberry Brit and thought that I would remedy that oversight today. In this post, I want to give a general overview of Brit, my impressions of it, how well it wears, and whether or not it should merit consideration of a purchase. Note: I have updated this review, a few years after posting the original, to give new thoughts and expand more upon Burberry Brit for Men.

My Full Wear Review

My immediate impulse when smelling Burberry Brit is to compare it with other Burberry fragrances, such as London. Whereas London is more of a rugged, woodsy, tobacco type of scent, Brit strikes me as something much smoother.

The opening is fresh and delightful and one is immediately drawn into the subtle spice of the nutmeg/ginger/tonka notes; and the quite powdery aroma, which balances it out. The mandarin and bergamot citrus notes are present at the top and provide their usual brightness. This is a nice contrast from the fresh spiciness of the rest of the composition.

The opening is really dominated by this subdued citrus and fresh spice combination. There is an air of sweetness within Brit during this stage of the wear, the citrus and tonka bean, seem to be creating that effect. Yet, the cologne overall still has this green outdoorsy cleanliness during this time, as well.

What is interesting about Brit is that it contains wild roses but that it doesn’t give off the extreme rosiness of a cologne such as Dunhill Desire. Brit isn’t in any way a loud cologne, I think it really does a fantastic job of taking different elements and working them together in harmony instead of having one dominate feature.

With Brit, you get a warm spice, fresh green/woodsy notes, with a hint of citrus provided by the green mandarin note, and a baby powder type of finish.

The dry down is the make or break period for most guys with this fragrance, I’d say. The dark powdery rose, isn’t going to be enjoyable for some folks, but it is very well done. Again, it isn’t a super feminine or in your face rose. It’s smoothed out by tonka bean, a cedar base, with the same spices with the ginger, cardamom, and nutmeg notes.

Longevity, Sillage, and Versatility

Longevity wise, this is a really good performer and will typically last around 8 hours give or take. It isn’t a projection beast by any means but it does a great job at presenting itself as a moderate scent.

It’s always had solid sillage on my skin, consistent, but not a scent bomb. It’s more of a strong starter, then, lighter after a few hours. For much of the wear it’s going to be an intimate kind of cologne.

Nevertheless, in all my years of having various bottles of this scent, I’ve never been disappointed by its performance. It holds up well.

 

Burberry Brit is another safe option for the autumn or winter months, just like Burberry for Men (Also see: Brit vs Burberry for Men Comparison). However, I think Brit would be a better wintertime wear. I’ll usually wear it on colder days, but occasionally I will put some on in the evening, as something casual.

Brit for Men isn’t a summertime fragrance, though, it can be worn in the more moderate temperatures of spring. Still, much better as a colder climate scent.

Brit is an option that can be worn safely at work or even for class. It’s not going to overpower and it smells quite clean and pleasant. Teen guys can wear it, but it doesn’t have that really youthful vibe, and has enough maturity to be worn by someone much older.

Overall Impressions of Burberry Brit for Men

Overall, I really enjoy this stuff. Brit is a great choice for everyday wear in the fall or winter months of the year. It is a solid performer for school or work and safe to use in either environment. It isn’t necessarily a ‘sexy’ type of cologne but it smells damn good and is attractive enough with the ladies. I’d definitely rate it as a buy.

This has become my third most worn Burberry cologne at this point, as I usually go with Burberry for Men or London depending on the occasion, and which bottle I have. (Edit: I have purchased a full bottle, in the autumn, and have been wearing it more than the others. I’ve been loving Brit for Men, as of late. I think it’s become my second favorite behind London now). Still, Brit for Men is a fairly unique guy’s cologne, and does everything quite well.

Really, there haven’t been too many great releases from this brand in a long while. The Mr. Burberry series was decent, but nothing must have. Still, well over a decade later Brit just works, and is among this designers top scents.

Mr. Burberry Indigo by Burberry

The Mr. Burberry line has been one that I’ve been much of a fan of. The aromas themselves have been pretty good, but the performances were definitely lacking. As such, when I got a sample of Mr. Burberry Indigo, I wasn’t too excited about this 2018 release. Did this change after testing? How does Indigo perform? Please continue below for my full review.

My Full Review

Let’s see how Burberry describes this scent: Introducing Mr. Burberry Indigo. A man of contrasts, he is refreshed and invigorated by an impromptu escape from the city.

Indigo opens up with a fresh mint and rosemary blend, with the lemon and blackcurrant notes coming through. It also feels a bit aquatic, with the driftwood and violet leaf notes.

It’s quite reminiscent of the Acqua di Gio series, with the overlapping notes and how it’s structured. Though, it lacks the floral heart and the aquatic element is just a touch versus a pretty major component.

Actually, Burberry Indigo has more of a greenish profile than being a ‘blue’ sort of fragrance. Herbal and outdoorsy with an ever-present freshness from the spearmint to the rosemary to the oak moss notes. The spearmint, is going to be the strongest and most persistent of the bunch.

Each of the herbal notes, seems to get a go at a time to shine. However, it will ultimately be about the spearmint note, blended with amber, driftwood, and a general green aromatic aroma. Burberry Indigo isn’t a super complicated fragrance, but does have an appealing composition.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

Sillage wise, this is a lighter moderate fragrance. I will say, that it has a much better ability to project itself on my skin versus the other Mr. Burberry colognes that I have reviewed. This EDT will stick 3-5 feet from the skin, at it’s max, but doesn’t hit skin scent territory until later in the wear.

The longevity is also improved when compared to the others. It’s still not great at 6-7 hours of wear, but it’s serviceable and not completely weak. I do wish it had a bit more punch and ability to hang around, not completely terrible, however.

Seasonally, it will be best in moderate to warmer temperatures of spring. But, it could work for most of the year. In the winter, the aromatic freshness, might be a bit much in the cold air. So, that’s probably it’s greatest limitation.

Indigo is also very versatile otherwise. It isn’t an offensive fragrance and not one to shine in the nightlife. However, it can be worn casually, to work, and to many other places. It has no trouble fitting in and can be safely worn by younger or even older guys.

Overall Impressions of Mr. Burberry Indigo

Overall, do I like Mr. Burberry Indigo? As of now, it’s my favorite from the Mr. Burberry series. That’s not saying too much, since I’m not generally a fan of it. That being said, I do enjoy this one. Like a more herbal green take, on an Acqua di Gio style of scent.

This does have a very minty profile, so, if that’s not your thing…skip it. The herbal woodiness and overall clean outdoorsy feeling is pleasant and attractive. I don’t think that Indigo does anything too groundbreaking, but I don’t have too many complaints from wearing it.

The aroma itself is nice, not incredible. The performance is decent enough. To me, it’s an above average cologne that could find a spot in your rotation, for the right price. I’d wear it more as a change of pace from the rest of what I have.

Is it a must buy? No, but it also isn’t one that I would ever regret having. Indigo EDT is worth a try, to see if you want to make a full commitment. I like it.

Mr. Burberry EDT by Burberry

Mr. Burberry EDT isn’t a cologne that I had tried out yet, so when I got a sample of it, I was hoping that it would be among the brand’s best efforts. This scent was released in 2014, which makes it one of the newer colognes from this line. It is a woodsy based fragrance with a citrus note provided by grapefruit. In this post, I want to give my impressions of Mr. Burberry eau de toilette after wearing, describe how it smells, performs, when it should be worn, and if it’s worth a purchase or not.

My Full Review

The opening of Mr. Burberry is a smooth blend of the grapefruit note along with some of the woods, notably the sandalwood and cedar. I can’t say that I’m blown away by the opening but I do find it pleasant and subtle on my skin. There’s just so many pairings of grapefruit and wood out there, it feels redundant.

There is a dash of mint in there, from the start, which lends a nice bit of coolness to the composition. It has a slightly herbal tone to it that underlies the citrus and woodsy notes but again, Mr. Burberry never comes across as anything special, in my opinion.

That isn’t to say that this cologne smells bad, it definitely doesn’t. Mr. Burberry is very clean and crisp and feels like a more dressed up type of fragrance, that can also be worn casually. The mint, cardamom and tarragon, is what really drives the best aspects of this cologne.

There is a hint of spice there, that is pretty much the only thing I find interesting about it. That’s the cardamom note coming through, to my nose, it is the highlight of Mr. Burberry. It plays wonderfully off of the mint, and then later, the woodsy base notes.

Nutmeg? I suppose, but it is none too strong. It just seems really generic and uneventful otherwise, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, depending on your own personal style.

As it dries down, I think this fragrance gets somewhat better than how it started. It’s got plenty of woody goodness in there and is quite fresh. Vetiver and birch, are the main notes I pick up from that aspect, along with the ubiquitous sandalwood.

The grapefruit is still around, not as sharp as it once was, but it does provide the main thrust of this cologne. The finish of Mr. Burberry is dry, woodsy, with the herbal/spice notes still floating around.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

The projection is decent. You can get away with spraying a lot more of this stuff than some other entries. It’s stronger than a skin scent, but the sillage doesn’t carve out a path in a room. Mr. Burberry does everything smoothly.

The longevity is also pretty good, this isn’t an all day and all night affair, but it’ll probably get through most of a work day. During testing, I got in the 5-7 hour range, and that’s what it seems about capable of.

Having now used up the sample sprayer that I had, I’d say that’s the range I get each time. Mostly, closer to the five hour mark, rather than the latter.

Mr. Burberry is an elegant type of scent so it will do well in those dressier situations as well as at work or school. It really isn’t offensive and is simply something that smells good/fresh. It does enjoy some versatility too, as it seems like it could work in almost any season.

It’s not a night club beast, has a definite appeal, but not really a sexy quality. Women will enjoy it, but it’s isn’t something that truly captures attention, in my experience.

As much as it doesn’t really cultivate much excitement from me, I can honestly say that it’s versatility is perhaps its strongest point. It’s pleasant, low key, and has the ability to simply work in so many different scenarios.

Overall Impressions of Mr. Burberry

Overall, is Mr. Burberry a buy? For me, no. I actually like the way it smells and it is far better than that disaster known as Burberry Weekend. There are just other Burberry colognes that I would rather wear. Plus, since the performance isn’t outstanding, it loses more of my potential interest.

This cologne seems to get a lot of undue hate from a lot of folks, but it really isn’t a ‘bad’ fragrance, just not something I absolutely must have. If I could snag a really cheap bottle of this stuff, I probably would wear it on some occasions, and enjoy doing so.

It doesn’t stand out from the pack and that could be good or bad depending on your own tastes.

I do wish it was a bit more interesting and had some greater longevity. Even just the performance, could’ve made Mr. Burberry EDT worthwhile at the right price.
