Dior Addict EDT by Christian Dior

Yet another Christian Dior sample that I recently received, is the EDT version of Dior Addict. As usual, I am going to cover in this perfume review post: what’s inside, how it smells, how it performs, when it should be worn, and whether or not I think that Dior Addict is worth a purchase.

What does Dior Addict EDT Smell Like?

Notes include: mandarin, sandalwood, jasmine sambac, neroli, and vanilla

My Full Review

Right off the bat, let me state that this is the Eau de Toilette version that I am reviewing. It can be quite confusing when dealing with the Dior Addict line, because there are so many different variations and flankers. This one was launched in 2014 and comes in a clear bottle, not the blue.

Anyways, this version is much more of the floral variety and less of the vanilla. It opens up with a mix of jasmine sambac and mandarin orange notes, that is bright, and provides a fresh soapy kind of clean.

The mandarin note doesn’t seem super citrusy, rather it is more like an orange that has yet to ripen fully, when it still has a tint of green. It’s really more because of the presence of neroli, as you get a similar vibe in fragrances like, Neroli Portofino.

Next comes the sandalwood note which is joined by just a touch of vanilla. The vanilla is very subtle at this point and Dior Addict EDT is so well blended, that it can be difficult to detect at times. The base of sandalwood is also rather light, it is noticeable, but never really takes over the floral top notes.

This version of Addict is a pretty straightforward fragrance and you’ll know exactly what you’re getting within 30 minutes or so of wear…for the most part, I do think the vanilla peaks through, a bit more later on. So, you do indeed get to enjoy some sweetness in this fragrance, along with the soapy/citrus/floral qualities.

The ‘green’ mandarin note is really what seems to make this one work. It plays off of the rich jasmine very beautifully and gives the perfume a lively/fresh spark, that is damn enjoyable. Neroli does its thing, and is of course, quite highly related to the mandarin.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

Projection wise, the EDT is pretty moderate. It is not a loud or overwhelming scent in the slightest. The longevity is good not great and seems to hit the 6-8 hour range, on average. The performance is good but I don’t think it hits the same level as another Dior fragrance that I just reviewed, Poison Girl.

The sillage starts out as moderate, it does become lighter, and sort of airy later on in the wear. Nonetheless, I can easily pick it up on my skin in that 6+ hour range.

In terms of the versatility, it could be safely worn during any occasion. However, I wouldn’t call it a ‘sexy’ kind of perfume, more pretty and uplifting. Casual, dressy, or office wear. Not a date night fragrance or one that is going to drive anyone crazy.

Seasonally, I really like this for the springtime or early summer months, even if it wouldn’t seem out of place in the winter. It’s light enough to not get bogged down in the heat or humid weather, which is a plus.

Overall Impression of Addict EDT

Overall, is Dior Addict EDT, worth a buy? I like it. It’s not the most amazing scent ever, but it is nice for what it is. This is one for those who like jasmine and floral notes that are expertly layered with citrus and sandalwood.

I’m still thinking that I like the original Dior Addict better than this one, but it’s been a while. This however, is a good choice for a simple, clean, and understated ladies’ fragrance.

Addict EDT is a straightforward wear, but could be a nice pick up for those who want a subtle option for daily wear, or other low key occasions.

Dior Poison Girl vs Unexpected Perfume Comparison

Back here with another perfume comparison, this time between two Dior offerings from the Poison Girl line: the original Poison Girl EDP vs. Poison Girl Unexpected. Which of these two great fragrances smells better, the flanker or the first of the line? As usual, I will compare each scent based on different metrics and then ultimately declare a winner. I have also linked to my original review of each below.

Opening

Poison Girl Unexpected opens up with a creamy candied aroma, which was the intention of the perfumer who developed this fragrance. Lemon and blood orange are two of the top notes which give Unexpected that bright citrus aroma.

This is paired with tonka bean, vanilla, and ginger which creates a delicious quality to opening of this perfume. A dash of salt is added to the ginger to further solidify the edible-like properties of this scent.

Meanwhile, the original Poison Girl, opens with Damascus Rose, tonka bean, and bitter orange. You can see that the two scents definitely share a similar DNA, however, the original Poison Girl is less citrus while being more floral. It shares that creamy quality with Unexpected but with almond instead of ginger.

Between the two? I actually really enjoy how both of these perfumes open up. They are both pleasant and gourmand. Though, I think that I have a slight preference for Poison Girl Unexpected, in this regard.

Edge: Unexpected

Projection

Poison Girl starts off strong and then becomes much more of a moderate sillaged perfume, as it dries down. Nevertheless, it is still a stronger fragrance than is Unexpected.

Unexpected isn’t weak, it’s just a lighter type of scent, and never reaches the same power as its predecessor. I’d call it a lighter moderate, while Poison Girl is at the upper range of what could be considered moderate.

Edge: Poison Girl

Longevity

While Poison Girl has better projection, than does Unexpected. They are about equal in terms of how long they last on my skin. I get 9-10 hours out of both of them, sometimes more. What’s more, they both perform well during the extent of the wear, and aren’t just some weak smell after a few hours. There’s no clear winner here.

Edge: Push

Versatility

The original Poison Girl, is much more restricted in when it can be worn, in terms of the climate. It’s, to me, a cold weather wear that might be able to make it into spring.

Unexpected, is much more of a year round fragrance, thanks to the ginger and citrus notes. These ingredients give Unexpected a different dynamic and one more conducive to warmer weather.

Both are however, very versatile as to where they can be worn. Each of these is safe enough to wear at work, casually, but are also quite sexy and great for a night out.

Edge: Unexpected

Overall Scent

I find it hard to believe that one would go wrong by choosing either of these Dior fragrances, they’re both very good perfumes, all around. That being said, I think I prefer the smell of Unexpected over the original Poison Girl.

Unexpected has elements of the original, but also added layers, which I find both more interesting and attractive. The opening candied citrus, smells wonderful, and adds a different element to the gourmand profile.

Then, as it dries down, Unexpected gets that familiar Damascus Rose note, but paired with ginger. Finally, there’s a nutty final chapter with hazelnut and almond, being introduced fully.

Poison Girl is great with citrus elements, rose, a smooth and creamy profile, with more woodiness than Unexpected. Rose, vanilla, tonka bean, almond, and bitter orange are the biggest stars in this fragrance.

Both are sweet and super attractive scents, but Unexpected is more versatile, has a better aroma, and at least equals the original in performance.

Winner: Poison Girl Unexpected

Black Opium vs Poison Girl Perfume Comparison

For this fragrance comparison, we are going to take a closer look at to women’s eau de parfums, Black Opium by YSL vs. Poison Girl by Christian Dior. Which of these perfumes smells the best? They share a lot of similarities, have lots of sweetness, are gourmand, but which one is a better buy? As usual, I’m going to break down each by different metrics, and then declare a winner. I’ve also linked my original reviews of each scent below.

Opening

I’m not too much of a fan with the way that Black Opium opens up. The first ten minutes or so are pretty jumbled, and honestly not that great, but it gets better. It’s a lot of orange blossom, cedar, and vanilla at the top. It’s loud and not very cohesive yet.

It’s strange, because I do really love orange blossom and vanilla. But for some reason, it just doesn’t click in the beginning.

Poison Girl, hits first with the Damascus rose note, tonka bean, and bitter orange. It’s creamy and smooth and actually feels quite close to how Black Opium ultimately smells.

At the start, the Dior fragrance, takes the edge.

Edge: Poison Girl

Projection

Ok, Black Opium is a bold fragrance. The sillage is quite loud and it has the ability to project far and wide. Really, that’s one of the perfume’s major strengths. As such, Poison Girl is going to have to match that at least, does it? It doesn’t.

The Dior starts off strong but never reaches the same level as does the YSL. Later, it fades more into a moderate perfume while Black Opium keeps going strong. Poison Girl isn’t bad at all, it just doesn’t meet the pure power that Black Opium displays.

Edge: Black Opium

Longevity

Actually, this category might be a tie. Black Opium goes on and on, but I also got double digit hours out of Poison Girl. I mean, if you want to keep going into the deep hours, maybe there is a clear winner but not in normal situations.

Edge: Push

Versatility

Two cold weather fragrances. Poison Girl can be worn at the office, casually, or out on a date. Black Opium can do the same, although, in confined spaces its best to go lighter.

I’d say Poison Girl is a tad bit sexier to my nose and is subtle enough to wear anywhere. So, I’ll give the Dior the slight edge here.

Edge: Poison Girl

Overall Scent

So, these two perfumes are very close in how they stack up against one another. They share many elements and this close competition is to be expected.

Black Opium EDP turns into a vanilla and coffee mix as it moves along to go with an orange blossom note playing the support role. It’s very warm and super sweet. The pink pepper note and the patchouli, give it a cozy spice to sit underneath the sweetness, and create that enveloping feel.

Poison Girl is also quite sweet but has a creamier aroma, thanks to tonka bean and the almond note. The rose, vanilla, and tonka bean notes make for a formidable trio that lead the way. The bitter orange note supplies the citrus and sort of gives a similar vibe to Black Opium.

Ultimately, though, I think that I prefer Poison Girl. It’s smoother. Almond, sandalwood, and tonka make sure of that. It’s sweet, creamy, and smooth. It’s not as bold as Black Opium, but performs just as well. It’s difficult to pick a winner in this contest, but Poison Girl just strikes me as a tad more interesting.

Winner: Poison Girl
