10 Fragrances Similar to Hypnotic Poison

Hypnotic Poison is a fragrance that has been popular for decades now. It’s almond, warm, vanilla combination has always had a lot of fans. It is a perfume that has a deep and attention grabbing smell. As such, it has sparked a whole host of similar smelling or cheaper also ran perfumes over the years.

Some of which, you can no longer easily find bottles of. However, I wanted to present ten options that can serve as potential alternatives to Hypnotic Poison by Dior.

Quick Overview

Hypnotizing Venom by The Dua Brand is the closest option if you want a direct Hypnotic Poison-inspired scent. It is built to follow the Dior style closely, with sweetness, florals, and bitter almond, while also offering extrait de parfum strength.

Hypnotic Amour by Fragrenza is another strong direct alternative. It includes plum, apricot, almond, coconut, vanilla, and rosewood, giving it a very close note structure to Hypnotic Poison with the added benefit of sample sizes.

Sweet Hope by La Rive is the best ultra-cheap option. It is lighter and more sheer than Hypnotic Poison, but it still gives you almond, sweetness, and a similar warm vanilla direction for a very low price.

Fragrance Price Range Similarity Key Shared Notes Best For
Hypnotizing Venom by The Dua Brand $$ Very High Bitter almond, sweetness, floral notes, vanilla-style warmth Closest inspired alternative with stronger concentration
Hypnotic Amour by Fragrenza $$ Very High Plum, apricot, almond, coconut, vanilla, rosewood A sample-friendly inspired version with a very close note structure
Sweet Hope by La Rive $ High Almond, sweetness, vanilla-style warmth Very cheap Hypnotic Poison-style alternative

Craze by Armaf $ Moderate Heliotrope, vanilla, almond, florals, sweet notes A cheap Pegasus-meets-Hypnotic Poison style option

Perfume Alternatives Similar to Hypnotic Poison

Super Inexpensive Hypnotic Impression

Tesori d’Oriente:”Fiore Del Dragone” Aromatic Perfume 100ml 3.38fl.oz [ Italian Import ] Is this an exact match of our target? No, but it can bear quite the resemblance, during its dry down.

Fiore del Dragone isn’t the most complex scent out there. Though, it can give you a similar experience to the Dior for a fraction of the price. The almond is there, as is: apricot, jasmine, vanilla, sandalwood, and other ingredients.

This one has a softer sillage, but has surprisingly good performance, for what it is. The opening act is sweeter and fruitier than Hypnotic Poison. Also, it feels like a thinner scent. Nonetheless, it has significant overlap to what we’re looking for.

Venomous Scent

Hypnotizing Venom by The Dua Brand– If you are looking for something that is inspired by and as close to what we want as you’re going to get, The Dua Brand should have you covered.

Reasonably priced, an extrait de parfum strength, and overall near one to one aroma with the original Dior formulation. With the sweetness, floral notes, and bitter almond making its way through the aroma.

Plus, it’ll probably give you better longevity than the current bottles of our target scent.

Amour Hypnosis

Hypnotic Amour by Fragrenza– Here’s another inspired take on the Hypnotic Poison note structure from Fragrenza. This is a brand that I’ve had a good experience with, having bought several samples from their designer inspirations lineup.

Plum, apricot, almond, and coconut are all here with the vanilla and rosewood base notes. With the same notes it’s going to be very close to what you get with the original.

In my experience with this brand, they do get very close to matching perfumes beat for beat.

The price for a full bottle is very affordable and you can always just buy samples instead, to test things out.

Hope for Similarities

Sweet Hope by La Rive– La Rive’s Sweet Hope really tries to go for something that is close to being like Hypnotic Poison and it does strike rather close. Not exact, but for under $20, it’s as good as you can expect.

It’s a lighter, more sheer take on this style of perfume. So, don’t expect a powerhouse with this one.

It has a good amount of sweetness, plentiful almond, but the vanilla isn’t as good as the Dior. Still, overall it hits the mark for what you may be looking for.

Performance wise, this isn’t an all-day wear, but also isn’t going to simply disappear in a few hours either.

Vanilla Hypnos

Hypnotic Vanilla by Zara– Dulce de leche and vanilla are really quite prominent in this one. That’s the biggest distinction between it and Hypnotic Poison.

Yes, still a strong vanilla but the sweetness is just different. To me, less sugary. More of a dry baked good.

Also, a lack of almond. However, we start out with an apricot blossom and also get to enjoy a jasmine note.

Still, this one strikes an awfully close chord to our Dior target without being a one to one match. Hypnotic Vanilla seems to be one that Zara has kept around for a while, so, you should be able to snatch up a bottle for pretty cheap.

Simplified Silvery Moon

Silver Moon by Pacifica–  This one has similarities to Hypnotic, as the main notes are: vanilla, spice, and almond. But, obviously with that structure this Pacifica scent is going to be a much simpler blend.

It has a sugary sort of sweetness to open things up, along with that main vanilla note, and a slightly spicy kick.

What’s really going to be missing here is the floral heart found with the Dior scent, which may or may not be a bad thing depending on your own taste.

Very warm embrace, the almond is soft and less bitter, with more of an approachable baked goods quality than Hypnotic. The dry down is creamier and smoother than that opening sugar rush, with a touch of musk.

It won’t be everyone’s ideal replacement, but plenty of people will enjoy its simplicity.

The Powdery Alternative

Juliette Has A Gun MMMM Eau de Parfum Spray, 1.7 Fl Oz– This one lacks the almond note, but gives you a juicy raspberry opening and vanilla and caramel throughout.

The vanilla, really starts to come through after 15-20 minutes and is joined by the heliotrope and iris notes, to really give it that mix of powder and creaminess. It’s pretty straightforward thereafter, with added sandalwood and musk.

Those base notes along with some of the floral notes, can give you a closely related aroma when compared to Hypnotic Poison. It’s a lighter and a version with more powder to it.

Sweet, Tart, and Juicier Cheapie

Christina Aguilera by Night by Christina Aguilera (Women) The opening act of Christina Aguilera by Night, is quite the fruity affair. The apple note here, is actually great, and it is paired with some other tropical fruit, mainly pineapple.

This is another one that isn’t an exact match of Hypnotic, though, you do get plenty to enjoy. The main difference is going to be the lack of the almond note.

Vanilla is a major player, as is sandalwood, and a powdery heliotrope that can mimic that aspect of the Dior.

This is a dark and juicy sweetness with a lovely vanilla note, especially during the latter stages. It can be more difficult to find bottles, so it may not be an option for too much longer.

Masculine-leaning, Less Fruit

Parfums de Marly Pegasus Men’s Edp Spray, 4.2 Ounce– I’m personally not a huge fan of the almond note in this one, but it does strike a close chord to our Dior target. Yes, this is a men’s fragrance, but has a nice dry and powdery quality.

In here, you get almond, bergamot, and vanilla to start things off. Then comes in heliotrope, lavender, and jasmine as the floral heart. It will transition from that powdery scent into something that is smooth and creamy.

The main difference is going to be that Pegasus has less sweetness than does Hypnotic Poison. It’s also pricier, but if you want a well-made alternative this is an option. Pegasus review

Craze Alternative

Craze by Armaf– Here’s another men’s fragrance that can kind of go either way, it’s basically a cheaper version of Pegasus mixed with Hypnotic Poison. With enough similarities to Hypnotic Poison to be viable.

Heliotrope powder, vanilla, and a nutty almond note are all here. This is going to be the least ‘similar’ to the Dior, but has well over 50% similarity with it. Probably over 70 percent, really.

The almond note here comes across as somewhat bitter, especially with the other notes early on. Then, it will become a better blend with the vanilla, fresh floral notes, and overall sweetness.

So, if you want that same style, a sweeter aroma than Pegasus, but still more masculine than the Dior for around $30-ish…this can work. Not amazing, but nice for what it is.

Chanel Gabrielle vs Essence Comparison

Chanel released Gabrielle back in 2017 and it quickly gained some measure of popularity. A few years later, it introduced Gabrielle Essence as a follow up perfume. It can be tough to decide between the two, when you’re wanting to make a purchase.

So, I’m going to break things down based on my experience. Which is the better perfume? Which has better performance?

Quick Overview

My Verdict

Chanel Gabrielle Essence is the better fragrance overall. It opens smoother and fruitier than the original, with peach, citrus, coconut, orange blossom, and jasmine creating a more balanced start.

Gabrielle EDP is still pretty once the florals settle in, but Essence performs slightly better and has the more enjoyable scent profile.

Category Chanel Gabrielle EDP Chanel Gabrielle Essence Winner
Opening Opens with sparkling citrus, pear, orange, pink pepper, orange blossom, and ylang-ylang. The opening is bright, but also the weaker part of the fragrance. Opens with juicier fruit, peach, citrus, coconut, orange blossom, and jasmine. It feels smoother, clearer, and better balanced early on. Gabrielle Essence
Projection Moderate projection. It is not a powerhouse and can spend time closer to the skin. Also moderate, but reaches a slightly higher peak than the original EDP. Gabrielle Essence
Longevity Lasts around 7-7.5 hours on skin. Lasts just over 8 hours, giving it a slight advantage. Gabrielle Essence
Versatility Very versatile, especially for spring and summer. Works casually, semi-formally, and in most everyday situations. Equally versatile. Best in spring, but also works in summer and autumn as a pretty daily wear perfume. Tie
Overall Scent A very good floral perfume once jasmine and tuberose take over, but it is a step behind Essence overall. The better scent overall. It has a better fruity opening and a more balanced floral blend of orange blossom, jasmine, and ylang-ylang. Gabrielle Essence

Opening

Gabrielle opens with sparkling citrus notes (grapefruit, pear, orange) and a pink pepper spice. This is  alongside a floral  mix of orange blossom and ylang-ylang.

Even after me giving this Chanel multiple tries, the opening remains the fragrance’s weakest point.

I’m not usually a huge floral fan, but when those notes take over, this becomes a much better wear.

Fortunately, the transition doesn’t take long. Around 30 minutes in, jasmine and tuberose join the mix, creating a floral bouquet that’s much more appealing.

It’s focused on white petals rather than green stems. The overall character maintains a sweet and bright undercurrent that continues throughout the wear.

Meanwhile, Essence kicks off with some juicier fruits, and not the same sparkling brightness or sharpness of Gabrielle.

It lacks the original’s sparkling brightness but delivers better, juicier fruit – peach and citrus smoothed by white florals, with coconut emerging deeper into the wear.

There’s peach and coconut, along with the citrus notes, this time. There is also more of the orange blossom and jasmine, leading the way versus the original.

The fruity opening is improved but shorter-lived, quickly transitioning to florals. The key difference is Essence emphasizes orange blossom and jasmine upfront, while the EDP featured jasmine and tuberose. Here, tuberose plays a minimal role.

Which is better? I like Essence much more in the early stages. It feels more balanced, delicious, and the floral notes are the ones that I like better.

Gabrielle Essence opens much clearer than the original EDP, where notes blur together initially.  That makes for a better experience at the start.

Edge: Essence

Projection

Neither one of these fragrances is a powerhouse. Actually, they’re both fairly moderate and can spend time being skin scents. However, Essence reaches a slightly higher peak than does Gabrielle EDP.

It’s really not a huge difference, but noticeable.

Edge: Essence

Longevity

With Gabrielle, I got 7-7.5 hours of wear on the skin. Again, it’s not a powerhouse throughout, but it did hang around. Gabrielle Essence lasted just over 8, for another slight advantage.

Edge: Essence

Versatility

I don’t see a difference here. Both are wildly versatile, mostly in the spring and summer months.

You can go casual or more formal (but neither are super stuffy or serious). They have very pretty and attractive profiles.

Seasonally, Gabrielle and Gabrielle Essence is at their best in spring, though summer and autumn work well too.

In warmer spring air, these Chanel perfumes really hang beautifully and you catch whiffs of the full floral array. That bouquet effect is great.

Gabrielle Essence makes a versatile daily wear, just like the original. It’s not super formal and actually serves better as a casual or semi-formal scent.

It’s lovely and attractive, but not a super sexy club beast. You really wouldn’t offend anyone wearing them. These Chanel perfumes are pretty rather than provocative, making it a safe wear for most occasions.

So, the similarities don’t make much of a distinction. Tie.

Edge: Push

Overall Scent

I think that each of these fragrances is a very good release by Chanel. Gabrielle EDP settles into a floral bouquet with some remaining sweetness. It does everything well, even if it is a step behind Essence in many categories.

I think that it ultimately comes down to which floral notes you prefer, as the weighting is different between these perfumes.

With Gabrielle EDP, tuberose and jasmine play a larger role together, in the dry down.

Meanwhile, Essence doesn’t have as strong of a tuberose. It more evenly splits between orange blossom, jasmine, and ylang-ylang.

Personally, I think that Gabrielle Essence is the better fragrance all around. It doesn’t blow the original out of the water, but does make marked improvements in comparison.

It’s a beautiful perfume that improves on the original, which I already liked. Essence is a very well-balanced floral with a great fruity opening that avoids being over the top.

I prefer how the floral notes are weighted here compared to the original. Performance is somewhat better, though it could’ve been bumped up further. It’s not bad by any means, just not outstanding. Both longevity and projection sit above average.

This is more than just a solid Chanel entry. It does everything well and has the versatility to become a daily wear for many women. It feels more modern than some of their past releases, even if it’s not entirely unique.

Winner: Gabrielle Essence

Who Should Buy Chanel Gabrielle EDP?

Buy Chanel Gabrielle EDP if you prefer a brighter, sparkling citrus-floral opening and a dry down with more jasmine and tuberose. It is still a pretty, versatile perfume for spring, summer, casual wear, semi-formal settings, and everyday use.

Who Should Buy Chanel Gabrielle Essence?

Buy Chanel Gabrielle Essence if you want the better overall choice. It has a juicier fruity opening, smoother white florals, slightly better projection, and slightly better longevity. It is the safer pick if you want a polished daily wear Chanel floral.

Neroli Portofino by Tom Ford

Continuing on with my Tom Ford fragrance reviews, today we have a citrusy-floral perfume from the designer. This is a 2011 release entitled, Neroli Portofino. It is actually one of the more popular scents from the lineup, but what makes that so? How does it smell? What’s inside? Is Neroli Portofino even worth it?

Quick Overview

My Verdict

Neroli Portofino opens with a bright citrus burst, led mostly by lemon and orange blossom. The neroli becomes more noticeable later, while the opening feels juicy, floral, clean, and slightly soapy.

As it dries down, the citrus fades back but never fully disappears. Jasmine, lavender, neroli, and amber make up most of the later wear, giving it a clean citrus-white floral profile.

It is best for spring and summer, especially daytime and warm weather. The scent is enjoyable and high quality, but the performance is light for the price, so it is better to sample first or buy only if you really love this style.

What does Neroli Portofino Smell Like?

Season Spring Summer
Occasion Daytime, Warm Weather, Casual Wear, Vacation, Clean Fresh Wear, Unisex Use
Longevity About 5-6 hours
Sillage Light to moderate — noticeable for the first couple of hours, then sits close to the skin
Rating ★★★☆☆ 6.9 / 10
Quick Verdict A juicy citrus-white floral fragrance with lemon, orange blossom, neroli, jasmine, lavender, amber, and a clean soapy feel. It smells very nice, but the light projection and 5-6 hour longevity make it tough to justify at Tom Ford prices.

My Full Wear Review

The opening of Neroli Portofino presents my nose with a citrus burst, mainly comprised of lemon, and a mix of floral notes particularly orange blossom at first and then the neroli.

The neroli will come into its own, later in the wear. But, initially I get a lot more orange blossom than the namesake of the perfume.

It’s juicy citrus with floral undertones and a noticeable soapy quality. It actually feels quite similar to other scents that I have tried, so this isn’t one that I can say is wholly unique.

Is there a spiciness here? Sure, neroli and the rosemary briefly give Neroli Portofino some kick, but it’s not to the same extent as some of the other Tom Ford releases, that share this same sort of style.

There is a nice amber note within the composition which adds a different aspect to this fragrance besides really clean citrus-flower. It creates a warm heart and adds to the inviting soapy vibe, though it isn’t very powerful.

As it dries down, I begin to get more of the neroli, less of the lemon and orange notes and the jasmine peaks through also. Neroli Portofino is admittedly pretty darn linear in its presentation.

Sure, the citrus subsides more, but it never really goes away to become just a floral fragrance. The only further development to my nose from here, is some lavender, entering the picture.

Neroli, jasmine, lavender, and some amber for the rest of the wear. Citrusy white floral, when boiled down.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

Projection wise, the sillage of Neroli Portofino is pretty light to moderate. It’s by no means a bomb, but you’ll notice it for the first couple of hours with a decent amount of application. After that, this Tom Ford perfume, sits quite close to the skin.

If you want any sort of real projection with it, you’re going to have to spray heavy.

The longevity isn’t great, but I get about 5-6 hours of wear from it. It doesn’t seem like it lasts very long, because it isn’t one that projects itself very well, but it is still there.

Even still, 5 or 6 hours of wear at this price, is pretty bad. The performance takes Neroli Portofino down a few notches, in my book.

Seasonally, this is one for the spring and summer months. I’d lean more toward wearing it in the summertime, due to the great citrus elements. That’s actually my favorite aspect of this scent, the lemon and orange zesty element that hangs around during the wear.

Neroli Portofino is listed as a unisex perfume and it is. I’d say that it leans more toward the female side of things, since it is pretty flowery, but it isn’t overly so and not feminine enough to take away the unisex aspect.

Overall Impressions of Neroli Portofino

Overall, do I like it? I do enjoy the scent of Neroli Portofino, but I wouldn’t buy it for myself. It smells very nice, but the longevity and sillage isn’t great enough for me to justify paying Tom Ford prices for it.

Plus, there are many other scents that have a similar or almost exactly the same aroma for a better price. Good fragrance? Absolutely. Worth it? Ehhh, not for me at least.

I like the citrus notes and the opening act. The floral dry down is nice, but it gets a little too soapy. I prefer the fruits to the floral notes. Forte goes too hard with the citrus notes and is nicer, when it dries down.

The citrus and orange blossom, I usually prefer over neroli anyway. That being said, the neroli note in this is spectacular in its quality. Very fine stuff, if it’s a scent that you personally enjoy. Though, it’s not really a fragrance that everyone needs in their collection.

FAQ: Neroli Portofino by Tom Ford

Neroli Portofino smells like juicy citrus, orange blossom, neroli, jasmine, lavender, amber, and clean soap. It is fresh, floral, bright, and very clean.

Is Neroli Portofino for men or women?

Neroli Portofino is unisex. It may lean slightly feminine to some people because of the floral side, but it still works well as a unisex fragrance.

How long does Neroli Portofino last?

Neroli Portofino lasts around 5-6 hours. The scent is still noticeable, but it does not project strongly for very long.

Does Neroli Portofino project well?

Projection is light to moderate. It is noticeable for the first couple of hours with enough sprays, then sits much closer to the skin.

Is Neroli Portofino good for summer?

Yes. Neroli Portofino is best for spring and summer, especially because of its lemon, orange, neroli, and clean floral freshness.

It smells very good, but it is hard to justify at Tom Ford pricing because the performance is not great. It is worth trying if you love citrus-white floral fragrances, but not a must-buy.

Is Neroli Portofino soapy?

Yes. Neroli Portofino has a noticeable soapy quality, especially alongside the citrus, neroli, orange blossom, jasmine, lavender, and amber.

Is Neroli Portofino unique?

Not especially. It fits into a familiar citrus-floral style, though the neroli itself smells high quality.

Wear Neroli Portofino during warm weather, spring, summer, daytime, vacations, casual settings, or anytime you want a clean citrus-floral scent.

Is Neroli Portofino better than Neroli Portofino Forte?

The original has the better opening, while Forte is better later in the dry down. The original is the better choice if you want more citrus and orange blossom freshness.

Ombre Leather vs Parfum by Tom Ford

Ombre Leather’s popularity inevitably spawned a flanker fragrance based on its formulation. This came in the form of 2021’s Ombre Leather Parfum. I looked forward to giving this one a try, after how much I enjoyed the EDP. But, does it actually surpass it? Which lasts longer? Which should you buy?

Quick Overview

🏆 My Verdict

Ombré Leather wins on opening, projection, longevity, and overall scent, while Ombré Leather Parfum wins on versatility.

Buy Ombré Leather if you want the stronger, better-performing leather fragrance with the better overall scent.

Buy Ombré Leather Parfum if you want the smoother, more restrained version that is easier to wear in more situations.

Category Ombré Leather Ombré Leather Parfum Winner

Longevity Around 8+ hours with stronger staying power Usually about the same, but not quite as long-lasting overall Ombré Leather
Versatility Best for colder weather, evenings, and stronger statement wear Easier to wear in more situations with a smoother and less intense profile Ombré Leather Parfum
Overall Scent Dryer, stronger, and more powerful leather fragrance with better full wear Smoother, softer, and more wearable leather scent Ombré Leather

Ombre Leather Parfum

Notes include: leather, violet leaf, jasmine, orris, cedar, tobacco

Click here to try: Ombre Leather Parfum

Opening

Ombre Leather opens with leather, jasmine, moss, cardamom and saffron. It’s a very dark and dry with supple leathery warmth and a certain earthy quality to it all.

At the very start, that cardamom and saffron are quite apparent, with that spiciness of cardamom coming through. The leather and amber note are going to be there through the entire process, but it’s subdued to some extent by the spicier qualities.

As far as the jasmine and moss at this stage, they’re more just background support.

Meanwhile, Ombre Parfum starts out lighter, cooler, and more ozonic. The violet leaf plays a larger role next to a cleaner leather aroma. It’s a bit watery and green, with plenty of fresh wood and jasmine also coming in.

Which is better at the start?

I’m going to go with the original Ombre Leather. Personally, I’m not a big fan of violet leaf, so it’s inclusion isn’t a big win for me. But, I don’t mind it too much in Parfum.

However, the warmth and spiciness early on with Ombre Leather has always captivated me and was going to be tough to top.

Edge: Ombre Leather

Projection

Both of these fragrances can start out being very strong off of the skin. Scent trails and massive projections, that will moderate and still present quite well during the remaining wear.

But, one might think that Parfum would be the bolder of the two. But, I don’t think that’s the case. It’s actually a close call, but the EDP seems to have a slight edge. I think it’s just because how each is structured…with EDP having bolder notes with a heavier weighting.

Edge: Ombre Leather

Longevity

So, with Ombre Leather I would get 6-8 hours of really noticeable wear. Then, it gives me an additional 3 hours or so as a skin scent. Anywhere from 9-11 hours in total.

Actually, it’s about the same with Parfum. However, the skin scent phase of the wear starts early by an hour or two, depending on the day.

I also sprayed each on jackets that I have hanging in my closet. Ombre Leather has been hanging on with a much stronger presence than has Parfum. But, each is still there two days later.

Edge: Ombre Leather

Versatility

Here’s a category where Ombre Parfum wins. Both are technically unisex, but Ombre Leather EDP does lean much more masculine.

Also, Parfum and it’s lighter sillage and use of floral notes lend it to venture further into the warmer months than the EDP. It’s not as intense and can be more wearable to a greater number of people.

Edge: Parfum

Overall Scent

This is actually a fairly close competition, as these two obviously share a lot of overlap and have strengths about them.

With Parfum, you do get a different feeling than with EDP. Lighter, less warmth, and that violet leaf really changes the tone. I was expecting more of a Dior Fahrenheit vibe, but this is a much more subtle use than the grassy gasoline of that one.

This is a cleaner representation of the leather, actually can be a bit suede like. There is some light tobacco and orris which gives it a smoother finish. Not all that powdery, but there is just a hint at times.

The performance is still good and this version might appeal to more people who didn’t care for the strength of the EDP.

However, I love Ombre Leather EDP. It might be my favorite leather fragrance. The spiciness, warmth, earthiness, and the jasmine with the leather note is fantastic. I like that I get more of that floral than the violet leaf.

Plus, the orris isn’t strong enough to make much of a difference, between the floral notes.

I like Ombre EDP, but there is a case to be had for Parfum, if it sounds like it might be better for you.

Winner: Ombre Leather EDP

Burberry Her EDT vs EDP

Her is a very popular series from Burberry nowadays. It has spawned more than a handful of flankers up to this point in time. I’ve been familiar with the eau de parfum for quite a while, but wanted to compare it to Her Eau de Toilette, which I’d only encountered once. So, this is my page for that.

How does each of them smell? How long do they last? Which is the better perfume pick?

Quick Overview

🏆 My Verdict

Burberry Her EDT wins on opening and overall scent, while Burberry Her EDP wins on projection and longevity. Versatility is basically a push because the EDP works better outside of summer, while the EDT specializes more in spring and summer.

Buy Her EDT if you want the fresher, more interesting pear, black currant, strawberry, and floral version with very little performance drop-off.

Buy Her EDP if you want the stronger, longer-lasting berry-heavy scent.

Category Burberry Her EDP Burberry Her EDT Winner
Opening Strong citrus and berry opening with strawberry, raspberry, brightness, and some jasmine Pear-led opening with strawberry, black currant, pink pepper, lily of the valley, and peony Her EDT
Projection Pretty strong at first, then moderates after the first hour or so Starts fairly strong and comes close to EDP, but not quite as high at the peak Her EDP
Longevity Usually 7–8 hours, sometimes slightly above 8 About 7 hours Her EDP
Versatility Best outside of summer; pleasant daytime wear that skews younger Spring and summer vibe; light, fresh, pleasant daytime wear Push
Overall Scent Sweet-tart berry fruitiness with strawberry, citrus, raspberry, and a less original back half Fresher pear, black currant, strawberry, and floral profile with the better opening and dry down Her EDT
Best For Those who want stronger berry projection and slightly longer wear Those who want the fresher, more interesting version with near-EDP performance

Opening

Burberry Her EDP starts off with a strong use of its citrus and berry notes. The fruitiness is powerful in the early stages. Strawberry is the strongest note of the lot, with some additional raspberry and brightness of the citrus notes.

It can be sharp and sour versus being sugary sweet or anything. The floral notes aren’t all that strong, but there is a decent amount of jasmine at times.

EDT also has that strawberry note. However, it starts off with the pear note being the lead. Under that, I get more of the black currant than I do the strawberry. It’s fresh and kind of watery, with a touch of pink pepper breaking up the sweetness.

But, what I do notice between these two options, is that Her EDT uses its floral notes a bit more in the early stages. Lily of the valley is the main focus, though, I get some peony also.

Which is better?

I don’t have a huge preference for one versus the other at this early stage. But, I do lean more towards the EDT version. The pear, freshness, greenish qualities are a bit more interesting than what I get from EDP.

Edge: Her EDT

Projection

Her EDP kicks off things with a pretty strong ability to project and leave a scent trail in one’s wake. It will moderate in the back half of the first hour or so.

Still, it doesn’t feel weak ever, until we get to the absolute depths of the wear.

EDT actually comes close to matching what EDP does. It starts fairly strong as well. Maybe not as high of a peak, but it’s not completely weak either. It then follows the same sort of trajectory on the way down.

Edge: EDP

Longevity

Her EDP will generally hit the 7-8 hour range on my skin. Maybe it can go a little bit above 8 hours, at times, but not much. It’s actually been fairly steady for me over all of the testing of this perfume that I’ve done.

With EDT, it is once again, almost as good as the eau de Parfum. Yet, it still falls short. On my skin, I got about 7 hours out of this one.

So, maybe 60-90 more minutes of wear with Her EDP. Not a massive difference, but a win.

Edge: Her EDP

Versatility

Her EDP is one that I like in every season except for the summertime. I don’t think it holds up all that well in the heat and humidity. Meanwhile, EDT specializes in the warmer months of the year. It very much has a spring and summer vibe to it. Light and fresh.

Neither of these are formal wear perfumes, nor are they completely mature. More pleasant daytime wears, that skew a bit younger without being childish.

I don’t know if there’s an advantage here.

Overall Scent

So, overall, which Burberry Her do I like more? EDP or EDT?

They’re not too far off from one another. Each fragrance has some things that I enjoy about them.

With Burberry Her EDP, I do like that opening fruitiness, as it does offer something somewhat different from Cloud and BR 540 which it often gets compared to. Not totally different, but sweeter and more tart, in that opening act.

The back half is fine. Nothing too original there.

I do think that I slightly prefer Her EDT to the eau de parfum version. Actually, I think Intense is better than either of these, but my pick is EDT out of these two. There are some other perfumes similar to Burberry Her.

With EDT, you don’t get much decline in the performance versus EDP. Also, I think the opening and back half of the perfume smells better. The opening of Her EDP was my favorite part of that scent, but EDT outshines it there too.

Winner: EDT

Burberry Her FAQ

Which is better: Burberry Her EDT or EDP?

Again, I prefer the EDT version of this fragrance, even with the weaker performance. I like the pear not, the blackcurrant, and just find it to be a more interesting scent.

Which Burberry Her is best for summer?

Between these two editions it’s the EDT. Other options from the series are: Her Petals and Her London Dream. The latter two may be difficult to find nowadays. Those are the best bets for a warmer weather fragrance, though.

Which Burberry Her perfume should I buy first?

I’d probably try out Her EDT first, if it sounds interesting to you. Her EDP is nice enough, just never wows me. Maybe check out Elixir, as that is a popular option too.
