Moves for Men by Adidas

Adidas is an athletics company, so, it should be kept in mind that the fragrances they produce are catered to a certain segment of the market at a certain price point. This isn’t a Dior or Creed type of fragrance manufacturer, where you are buying something wholly unique and a fashion statement in its own right.

With that out of the way, I wanted to do a review of Moves because it was one that I received as a gift in my early years in high school, which brings back memories when I think about Moves cologne.

This one came out back in 1999. How does it smell? How long does Moves last? Is it worth a try?

Note: Moves for Him was discontinued for a long while. It seems that Adidas has now re-released it. I found bottles on Amazon, which have ben redesigned, but you can at least buy this one again.

My Full Review

Moves is a blue fruity fragrance. Not in terms of a lemony type of citrusy smell but its fruity based profile is something similar to Tommy Hilfiger (although they don’t smell the same at all).

Though, there is an orange note here.

Where those two scent do align, is their youthful appeal. Let me just state from the start that, Adidas Moves is a cologne that should be used for high school guys in most instances.

Opening up, green apple is most prevalent and I can also detect the pineapple in it as well. As it settles down a bit, the more earthy notes begin to emerge and give it a center.

You do get a spicy freshness from the combination of the mint and black pepper notes. Nothing massive, but they give an edge to the shower gel sort of aroma that Moves presents.

One interesting note here, is the tomato leaf. Doesn’t stick out for long, but gives this Adidas cologne its initial greenish and freshness. Slightly aquatic, with how this can present early on.

A bottle of Moves can be had for under $10 (update: used to be. New bottles are about $15. Still a good affordable perfume for men) which makes it a solid option for younger guys, who don’t have much of an income yet.

Very clean presentation and always had a great cooling sensation when I wore Moves, back in the day. As it dries down, it honestly becomes much less distinct with its notes.

Vague florals, the blue-ish mishmash of notes and generic fruitiness, and then a musky base with some light woods. Not very complicated, but enjoyable.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

Projection wise it’s pretty moderate and it can last somewhat long depending on the weather and conditions in which it is worn. That’s for the first half.

After that, it’s light and has it remaining refreshing quality that sits close to the skin.

On me, it would always hit the 5-6 hour range. Perhaps, it could tap 7 here or there. It’s a pretty basic and middle of the road performer. Not as bad as some of the really cheap colognes that have been released over the years, but also nothing spectacular.

It always struck me as a warm weather scent but it never really held up outdoors in the heat. It just evokes memories of those months when I was younger and this was my go to cologne.

A couple sprays should be enough for sitting in class, dates, etc. Again, though, this is more of a casual and sporty fragrance. It does smell good enough to venture a bit beyond that, but not much, and it is a teenager to college wear.

Maybe an older guy could wear it during a workout or something along those lines but should definitely opt for something more mature as a day to day fragrance.

Overall Impressions of Adidas Moves

Overall, is Adidas Moves worth a look? I mean, if you’re in middle or high school, then it is a safe bet. Outside of that? If you just happen to get a free bottle or don’t care about spending the $10 bucks…then go for it.

It’s not a mature fragrance and it doesn’t really have much to it in terms of layers. It’s a fairly attractive scent for the younger crowd. Though, it isn’t my favorite, but it is one which will work well for most guys of that age range.

It’s pretty linear, but I like the mix of fruity notes and greener undertones. This is more nostalgia for me, so, I’m not going to be grabbing a bottle. It’s nice enough for what it is and can do the job for some guys out there.

6 Best Smelling Adidas Colognes for Men

Adidas has had a long and prosperous run as an athletic apparel company. However, it has also been in the fragrance game to one extent or another for decades, as well. In fact, some Adidas fragrances were among the first colognes that I wore on a regular basis as a teenager. They are also extremely inexpensive and full bottles can be had at under $20 and even for less than $10.

Obviously, this makes it a good route for younger guys to try out without having to break the bank. In this post, I have selected six from the Adidas line that I feel are the best of the bunch, and have linked each to its Amazon page for more info.

What are the Best Adidas Colognes for Men?

Best Smelling Cologne

Adidas Dare Eau-De-Toilette Natural Spray by Adidas, 1 Fluid Ounce– A sneaky good blend of lime and apple at the start with a undertone of vanilla.

Then, a smooth rum note kicks in and is paired with leather to create something that is unique while still being inexpensive. Really good fragrance.

Like most inexpensive fragrances, Adidas Dare isn’t all that complicated, but this never smells ‘cheap’. Is it a luxury scent? No. However, the apple and citrus pairing is great. Plus, a undercurrent of rum, vanilla, and leather? I’m sold.

Most Popular Adidas

Adidas Victory League Eau De Toilette Spray for Men, 3.4 Ounce– Sweet and slightly spicy. It reminds me a bit of Ultra Male and Boss Bottled and Tommy Hilfiger, like a blend of those three.

So, an apple/pear blend with vanilla and a cinnamon kick. It’s another good casual option from Adidas. Somewhat related to Adidas Dare, though, Victory League isn’t as much about the fruit. Vanilla has much more strength in this one, than in the other Adidas scent.

If you want a cheapie, along the lines of the aforementioned designer scents, Victory League is a very solid pickup.

Underrated Scent

Adidas Deep Energy by Adidas For Men. Eau De Toilette Spray 3.4-Ounces– Was one of the Adidas fragrances that I received in a 3 bottle gift pack, many years ago. It’s an athletic or sporty kind of aquatic citrus. It works well in the summer months and I used this as a gym cologne for a long stretch of time.

Updating here in 2020, this has been discontinued, and I haven’t seen any cheap bottles floating around. What’s funny is, The One Sport by D&G, smells very similar to Deep Energy. I wouldn’t pay more than $20 for either, but this did front run the designer cologne by a decade. Deep Energy Full Review

Classic Sporty Scent

Adidas Moves By Adidas For Men. Eau De Toilette Spray 1.0 Oz / 30 Ml– The first Adidas cologne that I ever had, back in high school. It’s definitely geared toward younger guys. It’s a very fresh and clean scent but I was never really sure what the specific notes were.

Turns out it features tomato leaf, pepper, pineapple, and apple among others. I think I wore this for most of 9th and 10th grade, so it brings back some memories.

The juice inside is blue and it does have a ‘blue-ish’ vibe, to the aroma. Sort of aquatic, but that is due to the crisp fruity notes involved. Tomato leaf, is a severely underrated note, and somehow Adidas Moves is one of the few colognes to use it.  Adidas Moves Full Review

Simple and Clean Fresh

Adidas Eau de Toilette Spray for Men, Pure Game, 3.4 Fluid Ounce– A citrus and woody cologne that is pretty linear, but surprisingly good in it simplicity. The basil note gives it a bit of spice along with that familiar oud aroma.

Pure Game does have a very nice blend of citrus and spice notes. Basil and pepper, that gets smoothed out by the woody base. Hints of sandalwood and cypress, with a vague smoky quality. Yes, it’s simple and linear, but it does have some depth to its personality. This is a really good buy, for this cheap price point.

Warm Sweetness

Adidas Extreme Power Eau de Toilette Spray, 3.4 Ounce– A sweet tonka bean laden scent with opening citrus notes and a great warmth throughout. There is also a coffee note that I think goes really well with the tonka bean and they are two of my favorite notes in men’s fragrances.

At this price point, Extreme Power is a great buy, but you’ll need to use more sprays for longevity’s sake. This does have similarities to Pure Game, but the notes are kind of flipped, with the strength. This is less woody and spicy, more sweet and warm.

Adidas Deep Energy Cologne Review

Most of the colognes which I have reviewed thus far on this site have been of the more expensive variety. Designer fragrances do come at a premium price and while you do sometimes get what you pay for, there are still great colognes at inexpensive prices. One cologne that I want to highlight today is Adidas’ Deep Energy.

This eau de toilette, sells for right around $10 and can provide a great value for guys looking to smell good. While it isn’t the best cologne on the market, Deep Energy is surprisingly pleasant for something so inexpensive. Update: It’s discontinued.

What does Adidas Deep Energy Smell Like?

Deep Energy Notes: mandarin, bergamot, green apple, cardamon, lavender, musk and woods

My Full Review

I first got my bottle of Deep Energy in a gift set of 3 Adidas fragrances. I didn’t particularly care for the other two scents, but I did find Deep Energy to be a relative steal at the price.

This cologne is a sporty one, and not one that will necessarily, be the best choice for going out on a date or something like that. Although, I suppose you could if you had no other options.

It opens up with a citrus blast of mandarin orange and bergamot, with a crisp green apple, putting itself within the mix. From the start, there is a musky undertone that is present, but it never struck me as being too heavy.

As it dries down further, it can become more difficult to distinguish between the individual fruit smells, because they do sort of blend into one.

After a quick opening act, the lavender note really starts to kick in, and is joined by a cedar wood base. It’s soothing and fresh, while still retaining that sporty edge, which Adidas is known for.  I really like how it smells at this stage, as the blend isn’t overly fruity, but does have a nice crisp and pleasant aroma.

Energy is in the product title and it definitely lives up to the moniker. The mandarin and green apple notes within this fragrance, help to make it an invigorating choice.

While many other cheaper colognes, can tend to overpower, Deep Energy is one that is subtle yet stands out as a unique and pleasant experience.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

Projection wise, it is pretty moderate for the opening hour, and then the sillage is closer to the skin. It isn’t completely weak, but a cologne that is more light and refreshing, than constantly demanding attention.

The longevity has always been good for me. Well, I mean, good for something at this price point. It’ll go for up to 6 hours or so, before fading. That’s not bad at all, when you consider that re-application won’t cost a bunch of money.

I’ve mostly worn this fragrance at work or out around town while running errands. Due to its price, Deep Energy is a good choice as an everyday cologne, that can be worn on days where you don’t want to use up the more expensive designer fragrances you might own.

It’s sporty and light enough for gym wear. Most of all, it’s a nice choice for younger guys who are still in school, and need something simple and fresh.

Deep Energy has a bit of spice to it which helps to give it a comforting warmth, from a very light cardamom note, which is persistent throughout.

Unlike something such as Opium Pour Homme, this Adidas cologne has its subtle spice paired with woodsy notes and fruity notes like green apple.

Overall Impressions of Deep Energy

I rather like Deep Energy as sort of a starter cologne or one that can be worn in casual situations because it is a overall nice smell. I have gotten plenty of complements while wearing it, and it is also fairly long-lasting, which is even a better value.

Is it amazing? No, but, it is a nice little fragrance that you don’t really need to think about before applying. It isn’t offensive, it is clean, and gets the job done.

If you’re in the market for an inexpensive cologne, definitely check out Deep Energy, again it’s only $10 or thereabouts, so it won’t break the bank.

Update: This has been discontinued for years now. The secondary market, seems to have sold off most of the excess bottles and the price has shot up. Don’t pay insane prices for this.

Adidas Moves 001 Cologne Review

I used to wear the original Adidas Moves back in high school and reviewed that fragrance on here yesterday. However, Adidas usually would sell a 3 fragrance gift set of Moves, 001, and Deep Energy. These fragrances are always available for dirt cheap and present some feasible options for younger guys who don’t have the budget. For this post, I want to take a look at the third cologne in these sets, Moves 001.

moves001

Notes include: amber, sandalwood, mandarin orange, pear leaf, coriander, musk, patchouli

I wrote in my review of the original Moves, that is basically a cologne suited best for high school aged guys. I would say that 001, is a more mature fragrance than that but it is still youthful in its presentation. This cologne is much more earthy/woodsy/spicy than the watery aquatic that is Adidas Moves. It does still have sweet fruity highlights of pear leaf and mandarin, however, it isn’t dominated by citrus or fruity scent.

001 is a smooth cologne, it isn’t spicy in the same way as something like Opium, but it is mostly imbued with musk and patchouli which give it that older vibe. Much like the other Adidas colognes, 001 is a bit synthetic in the way it smells, not overly so but it doesn’t have nearly the same complexity or quality as some more pricey designer fragrances.

When I used to wear this back in the day, I would usually get 4-6 hours out of it. It’s not a long-lasting fragrance and so that takes aways some of its usefulness. It also starts out as a moderate projecting cologne but it quickly fades and most of its longevity is when someone is very close to you.

Overall, it isn’t a bad scent. It smells fine but it isn’t anything special.001 is probably my least favorite of the three Adidas colognes that I used to wear. It’s something that can be worn casually but don’t expect miracles, though, it isn’t offensive so it is a safe fragrance to wear around wherever. Is it a buy? I think there are much better options, even at this price point, but if you want a bottle, go for it.
