Best Les Eaux de Chanel Fragrances

Chanel released its line of perfumes under the Les Eaux de Chanel banner starting a few years ago. There are currently five fragrances with the designation and I grabbed samples of them a few months ago.

Since then, I’ve tested out these scents, and wanted to create a post ranking them. The following is my current standings and I’ll update this page if I change my mind or any new releases are brought to market in the future.

What are the Top Les Eaux de Chanel Perfumes?

The Best

Paris-Venise by Chanel– Paris-Venise is my pick for the best of this Chanel line. My number two pick was a close challenger, but I think Venise pretty easily surpasses the other options.

Venise features notes of neroli, vanilla, and tonka bean. It kicks off with a great citrus accord, ylang-ylang, and a powdery mix of iris and violet. It’s fresh, unique, and a dynamic summertime wear.

The citrus, iris, and ylang-ylang (plus other floral notes) are most prominent in the opening act. Then, as it settles, you get the softer sweet and creamy notes coming through. With enough of the iris/violet combination to make it interesting. Paris-Venise is a very beautiful fragrance.

Lime and Basil Wonder

Paris-Deauville by Chanel– Deauville secured the number two spot without much trouble. After testing each of these perfumes, I kept coming back to this gem, time and time again.

Lime, lemon, and mandarin orange start things off here. But, it’s not a purely citrus fragrance, as there is also a prominent basil note and an overall green aroma in Paris-Deauville. The main notes are lime, basil, and patchouli.

That’s the trio for most of the wear. There is a floral aspect to this with a bit of rose and jasmine, but they really aren’t that major in the mix.

I get about 7 hours of wear on my skin. Deauville is a pretty simple scent, that’ll be a spring and summer wear, but it’s a really great use of lime. Read my full review

Green Gin Forest

Paris – ÉdimbourgParis–Édimbourg is the next in line and the top Eaux des Chanel for men. The others on the list, outside of Biarritz maybe, are pretty darn feminine.

This one is also the most unique. With this we go green and really fresh with notes of juniper and cypress, producing a gin-like aroma. It’s bright and woodsy, with the vetiver playing a larger role in the latter stages.

Vanilla adds a light creamy and sweet touch to the fragrance and helps to keep it more in the unisex camp. If you don’t want to go with a citrus or citrus/floral wear from this line for the summer, check out this, because it could be your number one pick. Paris-Edimbourg Review

Zesty Neroli

Paris-Riviera by Chanel– Riviera could easily be in the third spot, but I ultimately decided that I liked the unique aspect of Edimbourg more.

Paris-Riviera is a citrus floral perfume, with top notes of orange, neroli, and petitgrain. I recognize that Chanel orange note immediately and the neroli reminds me of the various Tom Ford summertime perfumes.

Riviera is quite zesty and uplifting in the early stages with a slight fresh spiciness to it. As it wears on, this Chanel will become more about the floral notes. Jasmine will eventually overtake the neroli, but it is a pretty even split.

The tail end becomes muskier with a late kick from the sandalwood note to add a further dryness to the mix. While I like Biarritz listed below, Riviera is better and lasts longer, so it’ll get the number four spot.

Hyper-Citrus Aquatic

Paris-Biarritz– Paris-Biarritz starts off with a powerful blast of cold citrus notes. Here it is going to be grapefruit and mandarin orange, according to Chanel. However, there is also very clearly a lemon note in here and it’s actually the strongest at the beginning.

Underneath that, what I think may throw some folks off, is the aquatic note in here. There is an oceanic aroma, not super strong, but it’s there and gives this a different feel. Lily of the valley and vetiver are present in the dry down.

I’m giving this one the bottom spot, even if it’s not a bad fragrance. Actually, I like it quite a bit. However, there are better options on this list that have a similar style and other Chanel fragrance that are also close to this.

Paris-Biarritz does have that awesome ice cold citrus and aquatic aroma that I like. Ultimately, the performance isn’t good enough and it doesn’t do anything better than the others on the list. Really, the 3 to 5 spots could be up for grabs, but this is how I’ve landed after using each for a while.

6 Best Smelling Elizabeth Taylor Perfumes

Elizabeth Taylor was a famous actress of the silver screen for decades before she moved into the world of fragrances. While celebrity scents come and go, Elizabeth’s perfumes have stood the test of time and continue to be best sellers many years later.

For this list, I have selected six scents from the collection which could be considered the best of the bunch. As always, I have linked each out to its page on Amazon for more information and ease of purchase.

What are the Best Elizabeth Taylor Perfumes?

Best Winter Fragrance

Passion By Elizabeth Taylor For Women, Eau De Toilette Spray, 2.5-Ounce
Passion is warm, slightly spicy, leathery, and musky. It is a fairly intense oriental/woodsy type of perfume that has been popular for decades now. I’m referring to modern bottles, the original releases, had much more intensity.

It opens up softer, with some floral highlights. Then, Passion moves forward into a woodsy, dry, and somewhat smoky phase. The spicier notes, come through an hour or so, into the wear.

Leathery and dry woods, with spice, and a lingering sweetness from the opening act. Passion is one for the colder months, all the way. Sure, it’s lost a step over the years, but it still has plenty of power and depth.

Most Popular Liz Taylor Scent

White Diamonds By Elizabeth Taylor For Women, Eau De Toilette Spray, 3.3-Ounce
The most famous of all of the scents by Elizabeth Taylor, White Diamonds has become an absolutely classic fragrance. Notes include: sandalwood, tuberose, lily, jasmine, oakmoss, amber, patchouli.

This is the best seller, but is White Diamonds, the best overall fragrance? No, I don’t think so. However, it is a classic composition of great floral notes and aldehydes, with a more complex character than many other perfumes in this price range.

Sometimes, people seem to bash this one based on its popularity alone. I think the powerful opening, can put people off also. Though, I will say as it develops, you get a full bouquet effect with a really nice lily note and the tuberose being the highlights.

Again, this is an old school sort of scent. So, it might not have the full appeal for some modern wearers. Think of it as being in the same vein as Chanel No. 5, not necessarily smelling exactly the same, but having a very similar style.

Top Newer Liz Taylor Perfume

White Diamonds Legacy– Obviously, there haven’t been a ton of new releases from this line. However, there has been some activity as a brand in the past few years.

One of the two using the White Diamonds moniker, is Legacy. Which is actually a great little perfume that has flown somewhat under the radar.

Legacy is a more modern white floral than its namesake White Diamonds. This one has gardenia, orange blossom, and jasmine leading the floral heart. Gardenia is the most noticeable of them.

But, you do get a musky and jasmine play in the dry down. Early on, the citrus notes are joined by a slight spice. Then, we get a great creaminess and a light sweetness throughout.

Not the same as the original, but quite a similar structure, just updated to today’s tastes.

Best Summer Scent

Diamonds and Sapphires by Elizabeth Taylor for Women, Eau De Toilette Spray, 1.7-Ounce
This one is a blend of fruit and floral notes. It is a scent which smells rather green/floral/melon that is both versatile and moderate.

The melon note with the lily and peach, gives Diamonds and Sapphires a watery-almost aquatic juiciness to the composition. The next phase brings on the floral array, consisting of: jasmine, ylang-ylang, and heliotrope.

Diamonds and Sapphires is a clean and fresh (near soapy) perfume. It isn’t as bold or in your face as Passion or White Diamonds. If you want, something lighter and versatile, this is a good pick.

Balanced Fruity Floral

Forever Elizabeth by Elizabeth Taylor for Women, Eau De Parfum Spray, 3.3-Ounce
Forever Elizabeth is a floral perfume with fruity notes that initially take center stage before the rest of the scent develops.

Notes include: jasmine, apple, musk, amber, dewberry, and blackberry.

This one switches away from the pure floral ingredients or boldness of the others, to deliver a delicious, and easy to wear perfume. The opening act gives you plenty of that crisp and water apple and the berry notes, which are really highlights.

That opening then shifts into a light musky floral fragrance, with the fruitier notes playing more of a supporting role. This is a great all around scent, that isn’t super heavy, and can be worn casually or to the office.

Best Fresh Fragrance

Violet Eyes by Elizabeth Taylor, Eau De Parfum Spray, 3.3-Ounce
Violet Eyes is a bit deceptive in its name, as the main floral notes are rose, peony, and jasmine. Not violet.

However, it is a good choice for cooler weather with its note of cedar taking center stage, later in the wear.

This is a sweet blend of peach and the floral notes up top. The cedar really powers through and you have a fresh semi-aquatic kind of aroma. The floral notes, then make a comeback to take over towards the end.

This one is a great performer, with a clean and pleasant profile. At the price point, Violet Eyes is a steal.

Ariana Grande Cloud vs. Burberry Her EDP

Cloud is a massively successful fragrance. In part, due to its similarities with Baccarat Rouge 540, another hugely popular scent. Burberry Her, is related to both, with its scent structure…as such there’s a whole lot of comparisons going on. In this post, I want to compare the Ariana Grande and Burberry perfumes, and declare an ultimate winner between them.

Read my review: Burberry Her EDP

Opening

Burberry Her EDP opens up with a blast of its citrus and berry notes. It’s very fruity up top. Strawberry is the strongest note of the lot, with some additional raspberry and the sharpness of the citrus notes.

It’s pretty sharp and sour versus being sugary sweet or anything. The floral notes aren’t all that strong, but there is a decent amount of jasmine at times. Quite different from Cloud, at the start, but it does get closer to the Ariana Grande perfume later on.

Cloud, on the other hand, begins with lavender and pear being the main attraction. There is a light bergamot citrus in there, but mostly that crisp pear. Not a big fruity vibe going on, in totality. With Cloud, there is a creamier/muskier influence from the base.

Which is better? I prefer Cloud’s opening act versus Her. I actually do really enjoy that fruity start from the Burberry, but it always seems to grate on my nerves, after a while.

I’m not crazy about Cloud. It’s not as dynamic, but it’s simplicity works.

Edge: Cloud

Projection

It’s a tougher call in how strong each is. I think that Her starts out with a better sillage, then turns moderate, but is softer for much of the wear. To me, it has a higher peak versus Cloud.

Cloud is pretty strong as well, but for most of the wear is quite moderate, projecting a few feet from the skin.

I’ll give Cloud the edge here, since it is more consistent for the duration.

Edge: Cloud

Longevity

With Cloud, I can get up to around 6 hours of wear, on the skin. For me, it doesn’t have amazing performance, but it is good enough for most purposes.

Burberry Her can last up to 8 hours. It doesn’t have huge sillage, but this EDP does stick around for a long while, and outdoes the Ariana Grande scent.

Edge: Burberry

Versatility

Seasonally, Her is better in the heat, while Cloud can work better in the cold of winter. Though, neither is exclusively stuck there. It’s kind of a wash.

Neither is a formal fragrance. Both skew younger, but not exclusively for teenagers. Still, each is more of a casual daily wear, that can sometimes be worn into the evening depending on the situation.

I really don’t see much difference here. There is plenty of overlap, also.

Edge: Push

Overall Scent

This is actually a really tight race between this two fragrances. Personally, I’m not a super fan of either, but do enjoy aspects of each.

The fruits in the opening of Her, have drawn me into a love/hate relationship with them. I love citrus and strawberry, which gives the Burberry a different dynamic than some of the other Baccarat Rouge comparasion scents and close replicas. But, it also gets annoying to me.

With Cloud, the opening isn’t very exciting, but it works well. I do like the coconut, praline, and muskiness in this perfume. Not a complete love, though, I think its a solid fragrance overall.

Which is better? I lean more toward Cloud. Overall, it’s a bit more enjoyable. The performance is about equal. Plus, it can usually be found for cheaper when compared to Her’s prices.

If you really like the berry/cherry/citrus idea, you might prefer Burberry Her. They do end up smelling pretty close to one another. Musky and woody in the base, with a general sweetness about them.

Not a massive difference, but Cloud gets the nod.

Winner: Cloud

Burberry Her by Burberry

Burberry Her is a line that Burberry has seemed to want to develop further over the past few years, ever since this one was released in 2018. They’re still coming out with flankers, so, I guess it’s going to continue for quite a while.

I’ve tried Her EDP out before, but recently received a sample with an order from Macy’s…so, it’s time to do a full review. How does it smell? How long does it last? Is Burberry Her worth a try?

My Full Review

Let’s see how Burberry describes Her EDP: Effortlessly stylish, energetic, optimistic, adventurous and bold – the spirit of Her, captured in London – a beautiful, bustling, creative metropolis, eclectic and full of life.

Burberry Her opens up with its berry and citrus notes out in full force. I get a sparkling quality from the raspberry, a slight sharpness from the citrus, and a hefty dose of strawberry. On my skin, the strawberry definitely takes the lead early, and never lets it go entirely.

Since this one was designed by Francis Kurkdjian and has plenty of overlap with his famous Baccarat Rouge 540, it often gets compared. This one is much fruitier, has more of a spring/summer vibe, and is missing much of the depth.

Underneath the strawberry, I do get a hint of cherry and the other berry notes really just feel like a generic fruit note. It is sweet somewhat, but not overly so, it’s more bright/sharp/sour…pick your adjective.

One thing that I’ve noticed, is how weak the floral notes are in this mix. The jasmine does poke through later on, but it never grabs much attention. It’s there, just not doing very much. Perhaps, that’s just on my skin.

Later, it becomes muskier, woody, and resembles Cloud by Ariana Grande. Both have that general fruity sweetness, musk, and woods. Cloud is creamier.

That’s pretty much the development of Burberry Her. Bold berry and citrus start. Strawberry with a bit of jasmine. Then, sweet with musk and woods.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

The sillage here is pretty strong at first. Not monstrous, but I was impressed with its ability to project. On a t-shirt, I could smell it from up to about 7 feet away. That was at its peak, once Burberry Her settles, it is more in the 3-4 foot range.

Later, it’s even more intimate. Really, gets soft and very pleasant.

The performance isn’t lacking. This will stick around on my skin for 8 hours of wear. On fabric, it keeps going well past that. So, if you’re into the scent, you definitely get your money’s worth.

Seasonally, I like this best in the warmer weather. I’d keep it mostly to the spring or summertime (when not super hot out). The fruity notes really dominate and it would stick out in winter weather, but it should also be fine in the autumn coolness.

Burberry Her has a youthful vibe to its aroma. It would work for teenagers, but adults can wear this easily, if you’re into the fruity perfumes. It’s pretty crowd pleasing and simple, not at all a formal wear, nor is it cheap and tacky.

Mostly, a daytime casual wear or one that you could go lightly with in the office.

Overall Impressions of Burberry Her

Overall, do I like Burberry Her? I do. I’m not in love with it, though. The Intense version is actually better, in my mind. It just gets overshadowed because of the BR540 comparisons with Her EDP.

The red berry and citrus opening is really great for a while. But, each time I’ve tried to wear this one, it begins to grate on my nerves a bit. It’s not one that I’d need to scrub off or anything, just the intense strawberry and sharp/sour citrus gets somewhat old after a while.

Though, when I do stick with it, I end up liking the dry down of this more. It’s closer to Ariana Grande’s Cloud than it is Baccarat Rouge. Still, Burberry Her is distinct enough from both of them.

It’s funny, this has been so successful that there are starting to even be, supposed perfume ‘dupes’ of Burberry Her.

The floral notes are light on me. I mostly get the cleanliness of musk and wood in the dry down with the strawberry and the mass of whatever is left of the other fruits.

Is this worth a try? Yeah, it’s one to check out. I don’t know that I’d blind buy it, as you might not like the way the berries sit on your skin. It’s not the best perfume out there, but it’s solid and can be a nice choice for the right person.

Paris-Deauville by Chanel

The Les Eaux de Chanel line is a more recent endeavor for the brand. The name’s of each fragrance starts with Paris and ends with another destination in France. I have gotten ahold of samples of each of the released scents so far and will be posting up my full reviews of them. Today, I am going to cover one of my favorites of the bunch, Paris-Deauville. How does it smell? How long does it last? Is it worth a buy?

What does Paris-Deauville Smell Like?

Notes include: lime, mandarin orange, lemon, basil, petitgrain, jasmine, patchouli, and rose

Click here to try: Paris-Deauville from Chanel

My Full Review

Here’s how Chanel describes it: Inspired by the country landscape along the Normandy coast, PARIS-DEAUVILLE Eau de Toilette is a lively, aromatic scent with a radiant freshness—the fragrance of the open air.

Paris-Deauville opens up with a delicious burst of its citrus notes. The main ones are going to be lime and mandarin orange. There is also so lemon. The orange note is very familiar, since it’s the same orange from Coco Mademoiselle.

Basil adds a great fresh spiciness to the blend. The citrus and green aroma is very attractive and bright for the summer months.

It all sits on top of a generally green and slightly floral mix in the base. It’s all very fresh and bright. Quite unisex.

Basil and lime are the main attractions for most of the wear. The other citrus notes play a supporting part. As it dries down, you do get a bit of jasmine and rose, but not much. Patchouli is the third strongest and really works well with the other two.

However, Deauville doesn’t develop all that much as a fragrance. You’ll get most of what you’re going to get early on in the wear. The good news, is that it is a very nice perfume and enjoyable.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

The sillage here ranges from light to the upper edge of moderate, in the early stages. The boldness of the citrus and basil notes can pack a bit of a punch initially. However, that will calm down and Paris-Deauville becomes more of a classic summertime wear.

The performance here is overall solid for this type of scent. A lot of citrus based perfumes like this can disappear in a few hours. This Chanel will hang around on my skin for up to 7 hours. Usually, it’ll hit six without issue, and that last hour is up for grabs.

Seasonally, mainly going to be the summer. But, late spring will be plenty doable for many of us. It’s not overly formal, but when it’s warmer you could wear Deauville casually to semi-formal. It’s more of a daytime fragrance than a nightlife powerhouse.

Very unisex, maybe leaning a bit more feminine. I really had no problems wearing this one, as a man.

Overall Impressions of Paris-Deauville

Do I like this scent? Yes, to me, it is the second best of the Les Eaux de Chanel lineup. Probably the best, as a unisex fragrance. Paris-Venise is more feminine, but I think better as a whole.

I love a good use of lime in a perfume. There have been some, but they usually have poor performance. Chanel has solved this, with its use of strong basil and patchouli. Paris-Deauville does have a slight Coco Mademoiselle quality to it with the mandarin and patchouli, also.

It’s not too complicated of a fragrance. Though, I find it really enjoyable and one with a rather unique profile. The citrus and greenish aroma. Very fresh, cold, with enough of a floral contingent but not anything that overwhelms the composition.

Sure, it will have a limited use case for most folks, being only the spring and summer. Though, within that timeframe, one could get plenty of enjoyment out wearing Deauville.

I like this fragrance. It’s definitely a Chanel that you should at least try and one that I think will have plenty of appeal for most folks.
