Two of the more popular fragrances for younger guys are currently, The Most Wanted and Stronger with You. In this post, I’m going to provide my head to head breakdown of each, and declare at the end which cologne I think is better.

Opening

Stronger With You opens up fresh and with its spicier notes out front. To me, the cardamom really stands apart from the other notes, it has a share of the note weighting at the start.

Beyond that, it’s: pink pepper, mint, sage. The vanilla and chestnut notes are there also, but will gain strength a bit further in. Early on, it’s cardamom and the others.

The Most Wanted also has a cardamom note, but this one has a lemony touch, that brings to mind the original Wanted. It’s fresher, spicier, but less of a sharp sweetness than its predecessor.

Though, the Most Wanted is still sweet with the caramel and Bourbon vanilla note. Sweet, spicy, with some freshness is essentially what you get from this cologne the rest of the way.

Which is better? While The Most Wanted is simpler, I think that it works in its favor. It’s less of a mess early, which can feel like the Emporio Armani’s problem after spraying. It’s not bad, just not at its best.

Projection

When it comes to creating a scent trail and just pure ability to jump off of the skin, these fragrances are about equal, in my experience.

Really, both are great for mainstream designer scents. I’ve tested them out to see if there’s a difference and I really don’t think that there is.

So, this one is a tie.

Neither is an absolute monster with how they perform, but they’re right on the border and very strong scents.

Longevity

The original Stronger With You EDT lasts for at least 9 hours on my skin. However, it can go above 10 hours at times, as well. It just sometimes fails to hit that double digit hour mark.

With The Most Wanted, I also get nine hours from it. But, it doesn’t seem to have that extra gear that Stronger can sometimes kick into.

Maybe newer bottles of SWY don’t have the same power. I’m not sure, but I haven’t heard anything about a declining performance. As such, I’ll give it the nod.

Versatility

Both of them are best in the autumn and winter months. Though, each can sneak into the early spring, especially if you’re planning on using them for evening wear. Maybe, Stronger is a bit better in this regard.

Neither is a formal wear or one that is built for the office life. Casual, nightlife, and romantic wear would be better uses.

They also skew younger, not just for teenagers, but younger men in general could do well wearing these.

Not much of a distinction, but I might give the slight edge to the Armani.

Overall Scent

Which of these fragrances is the better buy overall?

With SWY, I have always liked aspects of it, but it never completely blew my mind. It’s not the best release from the series (personally, I like Intensely), but it is likeable, and has very nice moments as it dries down.

Frankly, it’s never been as good to my nose as The Most Wanted, which actually is my favorite from the Azzaro series.

The caramel and vanilla notes in The Most Wanted give you a great sweetness. The cardamom, warmth and spice. Plus, there is a freshness here that prevents the fragrance from becoming too heavy

They do share similarities of course, but I think the simplicity of The Most Wanted gives it the nod. The performance is almost equal, if more so favoring Stronger With You. End of the day, it really comes down to which one smells better.

For me, that’s The Most Wanted.

If I compare this to SWY Intensely or Absolutely, it’d be much closer, but I still think that I’d go with The Most Wanted. To me, it’s just a bit better, and I like the notes more than the Armani fragrances.

Does Stronger With You last longer than The Most Wanted?

In my experience, yes. Slightly better wear time with Stronger with You and I can get over 10 hours sometimes. Barring any changes, I’d say the Armani lasts longer.

Is The Most Wanted too sweet?

No. In my opinion, it has a nice balance between spiciness, warmth, freshness, and sweetness. It does have sweetness, but it isn’t overwhelming. If you want to avoid any type of sweetness, go with another fragrance.

Is Stronger With You good for nightlife?

Yes, both Stronger with You and The Most Wanted are good for nightlife. You might go with something else during summer nights out, but either will work fine in that environment.

Which one is better for younger guys?

Either one of them works well for younger men. There is no ‘better’ here. Just go with the one that sounds more appealing to you.

For this edition of the head to head fragrance comparisons, I want to take a closer look at two very popular citrus based colognes, that have been best sellers for over a decade each: Light Blue Pour Homme vs. Acqua di Gio. Which smells better the Dolce & Gabbana or the Armani? Which has the better performance? Which is the better buy overall?

Opening

Light Blue starts off with citrus fruits of bergamot, grapefruit, and mandarin orange. It immediately has a bright disposition and is joined by a spicy pepper note and rosemary.

A little beyond the initial spray, incense and rosewood emerge from the base, and a smoky wood quality.

AdG also starts off with a citrus blast of bergamot and tangerine. It has much more of an aquatic sea breeze element than does Light Blue. Plus, smooth floral notes, consisting mostly of the jasmine.

The jasmine really does help to separate these two, in my mind. The way that it plays off of that citrus mix in the beginning, has always been great.

Yes, many don’t think of floral notes within men’s fragrances, but it sets AdG apart from its competitor.

Which do I prefer? I think that Acqua di Gio has the more pleasant opening, it has the marine note, and lacks the peppery aroma that the D&G features.

The citrus notes are better, juicier, and the jasmine note ties it all together in a way nothing does in Light Blue.

It’s not a overwhelming choice, but I do prefer it.

Projection

I consider both of these colognes to be moderate in terms of sillage. Neither is an absolute beast, nor are they weak. I actually don’t notice a difference between them.

At one time, that might have been different, but nowadays they are about the same.

Both have absolutely lost a step over the years.

You will spray them on and notice the scent of each. If sprayed enough, both will create a nice scent trail, but each will ultimately become a much more intimate fragrance.

Longevity

With Light Blue, I get anywhere from 6-8 hours of solid wear, on my skin. It is slightly better than AdG, which I get 6-7 hours out of.

So, that extra hour, I can sometimes get with Light Blue gets the nod here.

Update: the 2021 batch of Acqua that I tried out usually only hits 6 hours. Seven, is more of an occasional outcome.

Update 2: 2024 batches are the same for each of these colognes. Light Blue still provides the same.

Neither is extreme. Acqua di Gio used to be better, but it doesn’t have the same power or longevity as the original bottles. Light Blue could probably pull a few more hours back in the day too, but it’s held up a tad bit better.

Versatility

Both of these scents sort of occupy the same space. Spring/summer wears mainly, but have the ability to go year round. Also, can go casual or office wear.

Neither are club scents, but AdG does seem to have a bit more ‘sexiness’ to it than Light Blue, and I’ve gotten more complements with that scent.

In both cases, these are highly versatile colognes, and will often be the only fragrance a guy will wear.

For younger guys and through mid-20s, either of these can be a great starter cologne, to use in most situations you’ll come across in your day to day life.

There’s very little separation in this category too, as each of them are basically ‘do it all’ sorts of perfumes.

Overall Scent

Light Blue is a very good cologne. It’s very fresh and a nice starter scent for guys. It’s pretty straightforward, safe, and simple. Not too much development with the cologne, just a nice spicy and clean citrus fragrance.

There is some wood and herbal elements in the base, but it doesn’t reach the level of AdG, in terms of my personal enjoyment.

The winner in this head to head, is Acqua di Gio. It takes the citrus, adds wood, and has that great aquatic aroma that it has become famous for. Very pleasing to wear, balanced, and has awesome versatility.

The performance is solid, not amazing, but it is more than enough for most purposes. While I like AdG better, there are cheaper options that replicate the smell.

I will say, that I would actually either go with Light Blue Eau Intense or AdG Profumo, ahead of either of these two. Check out those reviews for further info. If I absolutely had to choose between the two in this post, I’d go with the Armani scent.

It’s not an overwhelming win, but I have come back to wearing AdG more often over the years.

Which is better: Light Blue or Acqua di Gio?

For me, I’ve always liked the smell of Acqua di Gio more. The line as a whole? I think that the Armani fragrances are generally better than the Light Blue flankers. AdG Parfum and Profondo are good choices.

Is Acqua di Gio more aquatic than Light Blue?

Yes. Light Blue is much more of a citrus, spice, and woods fragrance. That more aquatic smelling accord, is in the Armani cologne.

Which one is better for everyday wear?

Both of them have been used as daily wear or signature fragrances by men for decades now. It’s a matter of which you like more.

Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier

There are so many options when it comes to buying men’s colognes that there are some fragrances which get overlooked. Others, such as, Acqua Di Gio are perennial best-sellers and it seems worn almost universally.

Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier is in the latter category, it is a consistent best-selling cologne since 1995, and widely recognized as one which smells fantastic.

In this post, I want to share my thoughts and experiences with this Jean Paul Gaultier scent and find out if it is really worth all the hype? Note: I have updated this review, some 7+ years after the original post, to expand upon and revisit this cologne.

My Full Review

The opening of Le Male is noticeably geared towards the vanilla note. I for one, really enjoy vanilla based fragrances such as this, since it adds a certain smoothness to the presentation.

Beyond the vanilla note, the spiced mint and cinnamon kick in pretty strong from the beginning, along with the lavender. It can be an intense sort of opening, but it settles down fairly quickly to get to the best parts of the fragrance.

What’s interesting is the slight bergamot note in the top, which adds a citrus touch to a freshly spiced start.

As it dries down, the cinnamon starts to drop off for me, and I get more warmth and woods in the undertones. Amber and tonka bean with woods sitting at the base. On top, is still the vanilla, mint, and lavender combination with a toned down spice.

It is creamier with a bit of a powdered element. It all comes together as very sweet with a green minty spice, sort of synthetic smelling, but that is mostly at the opening stages.

What I’m ultimately left with, is a vanilla and lavender fragrance, with the remnants of a powerful mint. Some woods and powder, still coming through.

This is then wrapped in a warm amber/tonka mix on top of wood. Revisiting Le Male, nowadays, I really do get a  lot of similarities between it and Luna Rossa Sport. At least, in the main notes.

I think that this is such a popular cologne because of the fresh and clean aroma that it gives off. It is a fairly safe scent, which can be worn just about anywhere and it isn’t overpowering either.

Le Male is good at what it does, which is provide a nice scent, versatility, good projection and longevity, and still manages to be quite sexy and alluring to the opposite sex.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

While we’re on the subject of projection and longevity, this is a pretty good fragrance in terms of both. Longevity wise, I usually get 6+ hours of use out of it, which while not spectacular, is usually enough for most daily purposes.

The projection of would rate as moderate, but it is certainly not weak in my opinion either. It is definitely noticeable during the wear to both you and those around you. Also, Le Male does strike me as a bit synthetic smelling overall, but again, I do enjoy this fragrance.

This stuff used to have better performance beyond the 6 hours, but like all older scents, reformulations can happen and alter what we get out of our fragrances. It’s still very good, but doesn’t have that same power that it initially did.

Update: I have a new bottle here in 2023 and it’s still right in that 6 hour range. It hasn’t suffered any further performance declines.

I would say Le Male is a great choice for a wintertime fragrance or even during the cooler days of Fall. That’s when this cologne performs at its best. It is a basic and fairly inexpensive scent for guys to try out and maybe develop into a daily wear.

It’s also something that will mainly be for teens and men in their early 20s. It can be pretty synthetic and simple, not something that’s going to appeal to someone older with an office job.

It’s not something that will make you stand out as unique, and maybe that’s a good thing for some guys.

However, it won’t have most people around you hating you for wearing it either, and a ton of people will simply find it appealing…and that’s sometimes all we need from a scent.

It’s been such a popular fragrance for so long, that it doesn’t have the same unique vibe, it may have once had. But, you’re still going to get something that is nice and attractive to wear.

Overall Impressions of Le Male

Overall, do I still like Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier? Yes, I do. I no longer think that it’s the best JPG fragrance, as that title now belongs to Ultra Male and a few others. It’s still high ranking on the JPG cologne list.

Bottles of Ultra Male have been discontinued (update: they continued production), but you can buy them online, and the sillage and longevity are fantastic.

The original Le Male is still an awesome fragrance to wear and always super popular. For me, it is a nice scent to revisit from time to time, because it does bring back plenty of positive memories.

I really enjoy the vanilla/tonka/amber blend that comes through towards the middle of the wear.

For younger guys, this is an easy one to use as an all-around fragrance. For older guys, I’d go with something else. It’s not the best option for someone looking for a more serious kind of cologne. Closer to a playful or casual wear.

The only real downside, is the performance is just decent, but not amazing. However, this JPG scent is usually pretty affordable, which make the performance less of an issue.

Le Male FAQ

Is Le Male still worth buying today?

While I do think that tastes have changed since the 1990s, Le Male will still create new fans moving forward. It probably doesn’t appeal to everyone in the same way and JPG has created more modern flankers to keep up with the times. Yet, this one still does a lot of things well, and for a cheaper price…I think it’s worth trying out.

Can Le Male be worn in summer?

Inside? Sure. In the heat? Not really, unless it’s more of a mild summer day. In the higher temperatures, it’ll start to degrade in how enjoyable it’ll be..

Is Le Male better than Le Beau or Le Parfum?

I think that Le Male Le Parfum is better and I’d probably go with Le Beau before Le Male, also. I’m not a massive fan of Le Beau EDT, so, I don’t think that it’s way better or anything. Le Male Le Parfum has really modernized that Le Male DNA and should probably be your first choice from Gaultier, if you want a daily wear.

Is Le Male better than Ultra Male?

Personally, I enjoy wearing Ultra Male more than I do versus Le Male. Le Male is a better daily wear, but I really like the loud and bold energy that Ultra Male brings to the table. Here’s my comparison post between Ultra Male vs Le Male.

For this head to head match up, we have two Dolce & Gabbana fragrances for men, Light Blue vs. Light Blue Eau Intense. Light Blue has been a long time best seller and Eau Intense has also kept nice pace with it for many years.

My review: Light Blue Eau Intense

Opening

Light Blue opens up with a trio of citrus fruits led by bergamot and grapefruit, with a bit of mandarin orange. It is super bright and summery, with added spice provided by pepper, and an herbal aroma of rosemary.

After 10 minutes, the citrus is bolstered by some base notes, of incense and rosewood. This provides a smoked wood scent, that gently sits in the background.

Eau Intense, is similar to the original in that it starts with grapefruit and mandarin orange, to give that citrus scent. The grapefruit is a ‘frozen’ one, so, there is a great chilled vibe coming from the cologne and the pepper is absent from this version.

In its place, I pick up a light juniper note. The main difference from the original is the inclusion of an aquatic accord. It is slightly salty but not really oceanic, more like sitting by a hotel pool, while on an island. You pick up aquatic elements of sea and pool water.

Don’t worry, they aren’t heavy or overwhelming. But, it is one nice distinction that I get and really one of the things that sold me on this flanker when I first tried it.

I really like the juniper addition here, it gives Eau Intense an amazing level of freshness, that matches up well with the frozen grapefruit ingredient.

Which is better? I have to say that Eau Intense won me over with the great cool and refreshing aroma. Add to that, the nice aquatic scent and the lack of pepper, and I simply enjoy it more than the original. Although, I do like that one, also.

Projection

Eau Intense is designed to be stronger and it is. The sillage is pretty powerful for a citrusy summertime cologne, which is really nice. The original isn’t weak, it’s more moderate, but obviously doesn’t hit the heights of an intense version.

Eau Intense starts off strong and then becomes more of a moderate, as it wears on. It can indeed be quite bold up top, so, you don’t need to spray all that much for it to be effective.

Though, Eau Intense doesn’t keep the power for the duration. Most of the wear, will be firmly in that moderate camp.

Edge: Eau Intense

Longevity

You’d think that Eau Intense really blows the original out of the water, in terms of how long it lasts. However, it’s not that much of an advantage. The original will last 6-8 hours on my skin, while Eau Intense, lasts about 9.

Update: Newer bottles of the original seem to be more in that 6-7 hour range for me. 8 is kind of a reach.

Yes, it’s better, but it isn’t an overwhelming advantage. Actually, for the price you can get these at and their style (citrus aquatics), the longevity is really good for either. Eau Intense just hangs around for another hour or so.

Versatility

There really isn’t a difference between these two, as both D&G fragrances, check the same boxes. Both are built for spring/summer but can handle year round wear just fine.

Both can go casual, office wear, and are attractive enough to be worn on a date. Not really ‘sexy’ but attractive and pleasant.

The original does have a long-running popularity, so, maybe it has some advantage in terms of attractiveness (or perceived attractiveness, at least). To me, not really much separation here.

Overall Scent

I have to say, that I do actually enjoy Light Blue quite a bit. It has a lot of great elements to it. It is very fresh, clean, versatile, and is a good starter fragrance for guys. A simple scent, that performs well.

Light Blue Pour Homme is a bit drier, has a spicier profile, but with that same great citrus top. Doesn’t have the same aquatic style as Eau Intense, though it evokes, those kind of summertime feelings.

However, I think they took what was good about the original, and amplified it for Eau Intense.

Dolce managed to surpass their creation with Eau Intense. It’s just better in pretty much every way. It’s still fresh, but smoother, and has a cold crispness to it, which the original just doesn’t.

The aquatic accord is a nice addition. Plus, there is juniper and woody notes, which just add to the overall freshness and appeal. I could wear either of these colognes, but I’d choose Light Blue Eau Intense first.

I’ve actually gone back and forth with Eau Intense, over the past year. I loved it, then couldn’t stand it for a while, and now it’s grown on me once again. I think the amber wood note, can turn some folks off from it, and is indeed bothersome at times.

Although, I still think it is the better option between them, even if I can easily wear both colognes.

Actually, I’ll also go with Light Blue Sun, since it’s sort of a middle ground between them or one of the other flankers. The inventory of each of them changes, since most of these flankers are a one year release, before being discontinued.

Despite its lofty price, Creed’s release from earlier in the decade, has been a constant best-seller. Aventus really captured people’s imagination and took on a life of its own, becoming legendary.

Nonetheless, there are still plenty of guys who want to smell like this perfume, but want to find a cheaper alternative that can come close to its performance. What are the best options for a potential dupe? Which colognes are similar to Aventus?

Why Creed Aventus?

Again, this stuff was released back in 2010 and completely changed the men’s fragrance game. It’s one of those once per decade fragrances that helps to define an era of scent.

It’s balance, sophistication, while still retaining a mass appeal all lend to this Creed enjoying a seemingly never-ending runway of success. Probably for decades to come.

Another aspect of this, is that Aventus has now been copied or attempted to be duped by almost every brand big or small. So, while this list that I’m writing here has plenty of options, it is by no means exhaustive. There are probably hundreds of Aventus wannabe’s at this point.

They’ve also come out with Aventus Cologne and Absolu Aventus. To me, the original is still the best of them, and I don’t get the hype with Absolu.

Most Popular Similar Scent

Armaf Club De Nuit Intense Man EDT Men New in Box, 3.6 Fl Oz- This is the best-selling offering from Armaf, and that is likely because of it resemblance to, Creed’s Aventus. I totally understand the comparison, which is definitely intentional.

Between the two, Club de Nuit Intense is much heavier with lemon, than the Creed is, and doesn’t have the same level of pineapple.

Also, while it does share the birch note, Aventus always struck me as a much drier scent with a heavier smoky quality.

Both are still present in Club Intense, just not to the same extent. Performance wise, this Armaf is pretty top notch. Club de Nuit Intense EDT vs. EDP

Update: They’ve released so many variants of this, it’s hard to keep up. But, these two originals are easy to go with.

A More Accurate Cheapie

Supremacy Silver by Afnan– So, Supremacy Silver is a cleaner and more accurate representation of an Aventus like aroma than is Club de Nuit Intense. However, with that, the performance isn’t all that great. You might get 5 hours with heavier sprays.

But, it’s also in the $30-40 range, which  is a pretty good deal, even with subpar staying power. Personally, I’d probably go with one of the next two options in the $50-60 range, and get the better longevity and sillage.

The opening here is probably the closest with feeling like Aventus. The dry down to me, doesn’t have the same level of fruitiness and lacks some of the nuance. For $30? It’s pretty much a gem.

Dossier Alternative

Musky Oakmoss by Dossier– This doesn’t 100% smell comparable to Aventus, but it gets really close. It lacks some of the smokiness, vanilla, and black currant that the Creed has. But, since those are details in the original, it’s not a big deal.

What it does have is a slightly spicier vibe and a more distinct oakmoss, at times. So, fresh with that dryness, that really highlights the later stages of Aventus.

This one is around $50 per bottle and gives you a scent that hits all the basic notes of the Creed well, with a few of the details missing, but not overly noticeable.

Inspired Fragrance

Poseidon’s Elixir by Dua Brands– So, the Dua Brand’s fragrance is a closely similar scent. Probably not the exact same depth, but for $50-60 per bottle, it’s as close to the Creed scent that you’re going to encounter. (Note: it’s often on sale for much cheaper, I’m just showing the retail price).

I linked above to Poseidon’s Elixir 2.0 on their site. This is a fruitier version of an Aventus sort of aroma, if that’s your thing.

They also have like close to 60 different remixes and blends with other famous colognes. So, you might spend a while sorting through the list, and wanting something a little different.

However, the Dua version have beast mode longevity and great projection, as they are Extrait de Parfums. High concentration of the fragrance oils.

You can get blends with their inspired takes of Virgin Island Water, Sauvage, and a bunch of others that may be worth checking out. Or, go with something more true to the original.

Recently, I grabbed a bottle of Poseidon’s Berry Affair. This takes the Aventus formula and adds berry notes such as: blueberry, blackberry, elderberry, cranberry, raspberry, etc. You still get pineapple and apple in the top, but they now share an even fruitier stage.

A Select Option

Mercedes-Benz Select– This is an interesting one, since it doesn’t try to be an exact copy of Aventus, but has elements of it, Explorer by Mont Blanc, and Aventus Cologne. The smokiness isn’t here, it’s not as dry or woody, and it is without leather.

Mercedes-Benz Select is a fresher fruitier scent with notes of the same apple and blackcurrant as our Creed target.

Those notes are also going to play a larger role for longer, with musky undertones really emerging after this initial blast.

One of the differences, is going to be the citrus note. Bergamot is heavier and sort of dominates the other fruits in the mix. Not a super strong cologne, nor is it as complicated as Aventus, but this certainly has its charm.

Another Inspiration

Executive by Alt Fragrances– Executive is another option for those who want something closer to the smell of the Creed. I actually haven’t tried this particular one out, but I’ve had some good results with other ALT scents.

Like Dua Brand fragrances, they are Extrait de Parfum strength. Based on the reviews, Executive strikes an uncanny resemblance to what you get with Aventus. The price is also about what Poseidon’s Elixir listed above, goes for.

Again, not sure if it’s totally a comparable smell to Creed’s version, but it seems like it should be.

Immortal Perfume

Immortal Zeus by Fragrenza– This is another one that mimics an aroma like the Creed fragrance. I bought a sample of it and it is actually quite good.

The fruity notes have more of a balance, but the pineapple note is still very present. There also seems to be a bit more of the apple and much more juniper coming through versus Aventus. Maybe some more vanilla underneath.

But, overall it isn’t as smoky, the performance is solid (in the 7-8 hour range), and along the same line in price as others on the list. Plus, you can order samples to try.

Ineffable Inspiration

Ineffable by Oakcha– This one is the take of Oakcha, on the Creed Aventus style, which is available in a 30 or 50ml sized bottle.

Ineffable is an option that I’ve come across, while trying to find more fragrances that smell like Aventus. But, it’s also one that I haven’t tried out yet.

The brand itself has a good reputation and Ineffable itself has plenty of positive reviews about it. Looking at the notes here, it’s the same structure as Aventus, really all that’s needed is to get the weightings and quality of the ingredients correct.

It appears that Oakcha has done that. Just another one for you to potentially go for.

Yet Again

Brasilia by Alexandria– I’m updating this page with another alternative that bases itself on the Creed formula.

Alexandria actually does very good work with their inspired by perfumes. One good thing about them, is that you can purchase one of four different sizes between 30-100ml. So, once you like it you can grab a large bottle and be set for a longer time.

I’ve tried other fragrances from this brand and had good experiences with them. This one, is not one that I’ve come in contact with. Another extrait de parfum strength, that I can’t imagine they screwed up too much.

Leathery Alternative

Zara Men’s VIBRANT LEATHER Eau De Parfum 4.06 FL. OZ– This entry by Zara is Aventus, if it were of lesser quality, and had a big dose of leather. Vibrant Leather does have some overlapping similarities with Aventus, mainly being, the citrus and (some) earthy/spiciness.

However, it lacks the woods, ambergris, and much of the nuance that Aventus brings to the table. This one is also more weighted to the citrus, more lemon, than a bergamot/pineapple found in the Creed.

Performance isn’t great, but you can find this for cheap.

To update things, they’ve also released an Elixir version of Vibrant Leather, which still lacks the pineapple but is a slightly more powerful remix. Actually, has some similarities with Eros Energy (listed below). Elixir isn’t quite Aventus nor Aventus cologne, but it strikes a close chord.

A Designer Sibling

Montblanc EXPLORER Cologne for Men 3.3 fl.Oz Eau De Parfum Spray– Montblanc’s new release, Explorer, is probably the highest quality scent on this list. However, it isn’t an exact match of Aventus, but it does come quite close and does it with a designer flair.

The Explorer series is funny, this release was quite good, and they followed it up with some pretty mid follow-ups that aren’t really like this one at all.

The opening act, actually is where it strikes my nose as being an Aventus sort of smell but blended with the citrus of Burberry Weekend.

The sharp citrus aroma, spice, and dry vetiver. Wow, it’s a damn good impression. As it dries down, it gives you an ambroxan note similar to Sauvage, and not the same as Aventus’ ambergris.

What does it lack? Less woody, no pineapple, less smoky, no floral notes. Not the same level of sillage, as Aventus. Though, the longevity is pretty great, even without the beast projection. Explorer Review

Smooth, No Ambergris

Insurrection II Pure FOR MEN by Reyane – 3.0 oz EDT Spray– Insurrection II Pure is similar but not the same as Aventus. What you do get is a smooth and fruity fragrance, albeit the fruit is more citrus blend, than pineapple.

This is the most similar aspect, but again, not the same. Beyond that, is a nice dry birch note.

What do you not get? Well, Aventus has more floral accords. It also has a drier and smokier quality. Oh, and the famous Creed ambergris, is totally lacking here.

For the price, it is a very good mimicry, with solid performance, and an aroma that smells like a close relative of Aventus.

Super Cheap, Not the Best

Lomani Ab Spirit Silver Men’s Eau de Toilette Spray, 3.3 Ounce– Lomani does have some men’s fragrances, which do an admirable job at comparing to the scent of famous colognes. Ab Spirit Silver attempts to do this with Aventus, strikes a close chord, but ultimately falls short.

It’s citrusy, has some dries woods, and floral notes. The citrus, just doesn’t smell the same as Aventus. It doesn’t have any amber nor ambergris. Plus, the performance isn’t all that great.

However, it is an option, on the super cheap end of the spectrum. So, I thought I’d throw it on the list. Just wouldn’t be the top pick, by any means.

Resemblance, Not the Same Depth

Al Haramain L´Aventure Eau De Parfum for Men, 3.33 oz.– To me, this is less of an Aventus sort of smell, and more of a member of the same family. It’s got a muskier profile, with a sharp citrus opening, and a very nice blend of wood notes.

L’Aventure is a well rounded and put together inspired sort of take on Aventus. It’s not an exact match, but it goes on smooth, and does actually have a good level of quality.

It ultimately lacks smokiness, the details of Aventus, and is more of a citrus/woods combo that’s close to the Creed…without taking it on fully.

So, it wouldn’t be my first pick, but ultimately it’s a pretty decent cologne that gets you maybe 70-75 percent there.

Juicy Citrus, Moderate Performance

Supremacy Pour Homme by Afnan Eau De Parfum Spray For Men 3.4 Oz / 100 ml– This is a very good and closely comparable smell. It actually has the sharp black currant note, with citrus, and a strong pineapple.

I don’t notice the same level of apple nor the smokiness, nor the same level of dryness.

Outside of all of that? Yep, this is a close approximation of what we want.  Supremacy Silver doesn’t have the same sillage strength, as our target, but the longevity is right up there. You’re essentially getting most of what you’d get from Aventus, for a fraction of the price.

I’ve seen it in the $30-60 range, per bottle. Not super cheap, but way more affordable than anything by Creed.

The Cologne Version

Aventus Cologne by Creed– The original Aventus spawned this ‘Cologne’ version of the scent. To me, it’s not quite as good, but it is lighter and has a slightly different vibe to its predecessor.

It opens up with a mandarin orange note, in lieu of the pineapple. Along with some ginger and mint to add to the freshness. The smokiness from the original is gone, but this does start to show many more similarities to Aventus, with its woodsy dry down.

For some guys, this is going to be the better option. One that is fresher, lighter, and not nearly as dense as the original can feel like at times. On my skin, the performance wasn’t great, but others seem to have better luck with it. Aventus Cologne Review

Cologne Eros

Eros Energy– This release from Versace isn’t an option for those who want something similar to the original Aventus. However, the style is fairly close to what you get with Aventus Cologne.

A burst of citrus notes to open things up. From bergamot to grapefruit to orange to lemon and even black currant.

The dry down is a muskier and amber laced affair. The citrus still hangs around, but it’s not nearly as prominent.

Again, this isn’t exact, but it is one that will end up at the discounters for much cheaper than you can get Aventus Cologne. And since neither are spectacular fragrances, might as well go with Energy, if you’re in the market. Eros Energy Review

What is the best affordable alternative to Creed Aventus?

I’ve personally enjoyed using Poseidon’s Elixir, as mentioned. Club de Nuit Intense EDP is a nice alternative too. Musky Oakmoss by Dossier and Vibrant Leather by Zara both are inexpensive and give a really great result.


Which Aventus-style fragrance lasts the longest?

Poseidon’s Elixir gets me 10 hours of wear. So, that’s up there. Supremacy Pour Homme, Club de Nuit Intense, Immortal Zeus, and Explorer by Mont Blanc are also capable of getting a similar wear time to the Creed fragrance.
