Coconut has one of the most recognizable and enjoyable fruity aromas, on the planet. When it comes to use in fragrances, this note is usually reserved for women’s perfumes, and there aren’t too many men’s scents where it plays a major role.

It’s a shame, because when done right, it can be a fantastic addition to a cologne and really help separate you from what most other guys are wearing. In this post, I want to cover some of the best option for men who want a coconut scented fragrance. 

Quick Overview

CK Eternity Now for Men is one of the best affordable picks. It opens with coconut and starfruit, then dries down into a creamy coconut, vanilla, tonka bean, and cedar blend. It also gives solid 6-7 hour wear and is still easy to find online for a good price.

Le Beau Le Parfum is the better modern JPG coconut option if you want something sweeter, creamier, and more powerful than the original Le Beau. It adds pineapple and ginger up top, then dries down with coconut, sandalwood, and tonka bean.

Le Beau Paradise Garden– If you want a lighter coconut water, sweet, and fresh.

Boss Bottled Pacific is a strong pick if you want a salty, woody, creamy coconut scent. It has lemon early on, then moves into cypress, sandalwood, saltiness, and a tropical island-style coconut profile.

Coconut, Starfruit, and Vanilla

CK Eternity Now MEN Eau De Toilette Spray 3.4 OZ. – This has probably been my favorite cologne, to wear over the past week or so. Eternity Now has a gorgeous opening act, that is simply captivating.

It kicks off with our target note and star fruit. This combination is fantastic and the star fruit is the strongest up top. There is some light spice from ginger and anise, before it dries down into a creamy fragrance with additional vanilla and tonka bean.

Ultimately, it’s mostly a coconut/vanilla blend with some cedar and lingering star fruit. I get about 6-7 hours of wear from this, plenty of complements, and the price is very affordable now. Eternity Now Review

Ibiza Vibes

Paula’s Ibiza by Loewe– I’m going to list this original version of this unisex perfume. Paula’s Ibiza is a greener take on the coconut note, less of a tropical flair.

Now, if you want that style they did have Paula’s Ibiza Cosmic, which has now been discontinued. So, you’d have to source a bottle online. This one might be getting the axe also.

Nonetheless, this original version of this fragrance does indeed still feature a prominent coconut that is paired with mandarin orange and highlighted by a driftwood note in the base.

It’s woody and salty with floral notes like frangipani lending to it the beachy vibes. A really unique aroma that smells great and delivers a good performance.

 

Coconut, Tonka, Citrus

Jean Paul Gaultier “Le Beau” Eau De Toilette Spray– Le Beau is a JPG release, not to be confused with Le Beau Male, that is a pretty simple summer fragrance with a prominent coconut note.

This one opens up with a bergamot note, that lends it a citrus flair. But, this one doesn’t go full tropical, as it puts forth its coconut.

There is a bit of spiciness to it in the beginning, but that really fades in favor of the tonka bean and coconut combination. Some creaminess and a slight vanilla kick.

This one is more of a casual wear, with a nice powerful sillage, but with just a decent longevity. Sweet in a warm, sugary way, just like other Le Male fragrances.

Update: You might want to go with the newer Le Beau Le Parfum version. It opens with a pineapple and ginger kick to that coconut note. Then, will dry down with a sandalwood and tonka bean creaminess to our target note. 

Paradise Garden

Le Beau Male Paradise Garden– Yes, another flanker and this one is more of a pure coconut water than either of the others mentioned above.

Paradise Garden gives you a lighter touch with our target note and pairs it with ginger, mint, and fig. It’s sweet, fresh, cooling, and somewhat aquatic in the early stages of the wear.

Later, the finish becomes woodier with a grassy component. There still is some creaminess in the blend, but not to the same degree as some others on this list. Paradise Garden review

Coco Boss

Boss Bottled Pacific by Hugo Boss– Salty, woody, and coconut. This is a nice newer mainstream scent that has come out since last time I updated this page.

It actually has some elements that remind me of Kenzo Homme Intense (no coconut), not a total overlap, though. Kenzo does have the Marine version that supposedly like Bottled Pacific, but I have yet to try it. 

The coconut is creamy here, much more than in some of the other offerings. There’s a lemon squeeze in the early stages, before this one gets woodier, and feels like a hot tropical island scent.

The saltiness is there throughout, but isn’t completely massive within the composition. Cypress, later sandalwood, and the coconut are the focus with this Boss cologne.

Apparently, this one is difficult to find now. Even though it came out in 2023. The Dua Brand does have their version of this formula, found here: Dua Bottled Pacific

Woody Coconut

Ferrari Silver Essence Eau de Parfum EDP – This one is a different use of coconut, drier, and paired with lots of wood. Ferrari has lot of fragrances, mostly hit or miss, but Silver Essence is among the best.

It kicks off with a spice mix of cinnamon and nutmeg, it comes off very fresh, as there is a prominent cedar and birch wood that pops through the composition. Then, of course, is the coconut.

The coconut adds its sweet and fragrance aroma on top of the fresh spiciness, to create something wholly unique, and really nice. Spicy, smoky, and sweet wood. Very good performance, at an affordable price point.

Coconut Amber

Cool Water Intense by Davidoff for Men 4.2 oz Eau de Parfum Spray– This intense version of Cool Water, doesn’t have much of anything to do with the original, but it does have our target ingredient. Plus, it surprisingly good.

Intense kicks off with a greenish kick and citrus profile  that  is  flanked  by  the  coconut water note. Green mandarin is the top note here. Clean and bright.  Later,  the  coconut  and  amber/ambroxan  will fully takeover the wear.

Fruity with the orange and coconut notes and super smooth with the amber. Simple. This stuff projects like a beast and goes for a long time. Still a casual sort of fragrance, but the best Davidoff release in a long while.

Summer Beachy Lotion

Creed Virgin Island Water Eau De Parfum Spray, 3.3 Fl Ounce– Virgin Island Water is some folks favorite Creed wear, during the summer months. For me, it is the third best, as I’m not as high on it. VIW opens with a citrus and rum accord, the citrus being bergamot and lime.

I really like that opening blast, as it feels like sitting on a beach, with a tropical drink in hand. When the coconut comes in heavier, this one starts to take on more of a suntan lotion aroma.

Plenty of people enjoy that, I think that it is just okay. Nonetheless, it still has to be considered, on a list of the top men’s coconut fragrances.

Milky Coconut Scent

Comptoir Sud Pacifique COCO EXTREME EDT, 1 fl. oz.– This is one for those who want more of a pure coconut fragrance, with a sweet-milky finish, and flanked by vanilla.

It’s got a smoked quality with an added almond note, which helps to take away some of that usual sugary sweetness. It’s sill is, a sweet scent, however. 

Coco Extreme gives you a high quality summertime experience, with solid longevity, and some decent projection for the first few hours. This is one of the unisex fragrances from the Sud Pacifique line, but one that isn’t laden with more tradition feminine notes. 

This is a great example of a coconut note. Very beachy and pleasant to wear. Easily to use in combination with other fragrances, that need a touch of coconut. 

1 Million vs. 1 Million Parfum Comparison

1 Million EDT is still a best seller after all of these years. Of course, that means that Paco Rabanne is going to continue to release new flanker versions under its banner. The latest is 2020’s 1 Million Parfum. How does it compare? Which smells better? Which cologne lasts longer? Which is the better buy?

Quick Overview

1 Million EDT is still the better-smelling fragrance overall. It is warm, sweet, spicy, leathery, and bold, with citrus, cinnamon, amber, rose, leather, and a grape bubblegum-like sweetness. Newer bottles are not as powerful as older ones, but the scent itself still holds up well.

1 Million Parfum wins more technical categories. It opens with grapefruit, solar leather, and tiare flower, giving it a warmer, sunnier, slightly tropical twist on the 1 Million DNA. It projects better than current EDT bottles and lasts a bit more consistently now.

Opening

1 Million EDT opens up with a mix of leather, rose, and citrus (orange and grapefruit), that gives the fragrance a sort of  grape bubblegum like aroma. It’s sweet and warm, with an ever increasing spice coming from mostly cinnamon, but also mint.

All of this is surrounded by the embraced of an amber note, helping to give 1 Million some of its boldness and thickness.

Meanwhile, 1 Million Parfum somewhat mimics the opening of the EDT, but really taking it in a different direction. The opening act is when these two are at their most similar.

Parfum kicks things off with grapefruit and what Paco Rabanne refers to as ‘solar leather’. Basically, trying to recreate the sensation of sunlight (which it does) and the familiar leather note.

Along with that, there is a noticeable tiare flower, with which the solar notes blend and help to give this a somewhat tropical vibe up top.

Which start is better? It’s a close call for me. But, I do like the way that Parfum opens up and gives it a new twist, so I’ll lean that way.

Projection

Which of these two has the greater sillage and strength? If we’re talking about the classic formulations of the EDT, I’d say that it had the advantage.

However, I don’t think the newer bottles have the same punch that it once did. As such, Parfum will take this category. The EDT isn’t weak, but I think that Parfum’s high point is greater than the original now.

Parfum isn’t elite, but it is well above average. EDT nowadays, still has a rather bold start, but will become much more moderate at a faster pace than it used to originally.

Longevity

Again, the EDT used to give me a lot more than its current formulation. Back in the day, it was easily over 10 hours on my skin.

Now, it is usually between 8-10, depending on the scenario. Still very good, but not a marathon performer.

Parfum also hits that 8-10 hour range. Yes, the concentration is higher with Parfum, but on me it doesn’t translate into a longer wear.

Update: Now, 1 Million EDT, seems to only hit 8 hours with my latest bottle. It doesn’t really stretch to that 10 hour mark. So, I’m changing this to a Parfum win.

Versatility

So, neither of these fragrances are going to be an office wear scent or something for formal occasions. Pretty much casual scenarios, nightlife, etc.

Each feels more appropriate in autumn and winter. However, Parfum has the edge in that, it can venture deeper into spring than 1 Million can. Parfum can’t venture into the high heat but it’s tropical aspects do lend itself decently to warmer weather.

I will also say, that Parfum does feel a bit more grown up and mature than the EDT. It’s got a well put together style in comparison than the attention grabbing EDT.

Overall Scent

It does look like a clean win for 1 Million Parfum. However, in terms of overall experience, I’d still go with the EDT.

While I like the opening act of Parfum slightly more, I don’t think it holds up for the duration. The latter stages become more about tuberose and ambergris, which lessens its appeal for me.

I like the opening act, I like the leather and pine freshness, but the dry down is just okay. And that, is what most of the wear will be with Parfum.

With the original 1 Million, it would’ve been an easy win for it, based on older bottles. Still, I’d rather wear it over the newer Parfum. I like the sweetness, the spice, leather, and hints of rose.

Out of the newer releases in this line, I probably would opt to go with Elixir, if you want something different from the original. I think that one does a better job throughout versus Parfum.

EDT is warm and kind of brash, but I just think that it smells better in totality, when compared with Parfum. It really comes down to how you feel about the back half of Parfum. It’s not my thing, but some people seem to enjoy it.

Winner: 1 Million EDT

Who Should Buy 1 Million EDT?

Buy 1 Million EDT if you want the better-smelling fragrance overall. It is warmer, sweeter, spicier, and more classic, with citrus, cinnamon, amber, rose, leather, mint, and woods. It is best for casual wear, nights out, fall, winter, and anyone who still wants the original 1 Million personality.

Who Should Buy 1 Million Parfum?

Buy 1 Million Parfum if you want the stronger current performer and a slightly more mature twist on the original. It has grapefruit, solar leather, tiare flower, pine, amber, resin, tuberose, and a warmer tropical feel. It is better if you want more projection, more consistent longevity, and slightly better spring flexibility.

Explorer became a hit for Montblanc in the years following its release. Which, will cause almost any brand to follow it up with flankers. The latest in the Explorer line is Platinum. But, how does it compare to the original? Which smells better? Lasts longer? Is the better buy?

Montblanc Explorer is the better scent between these two. It opens with sharp bergamot, sage, and warm pink pepper before moving into leather, woods, ambroxan, cacao, and vetiver.

It has some Aventus-style overlap, but the lack of pineapple and the cacao-leather dry down help it stand apart.

Explorer Platinum is the better performer for longevity. It has violet leaf, sage, cedar, amber, and an ozonic-aquatic feel that comes across green, bright, slightly spicy, and somewhat coconut-like. It is unique, but it can also feel like a mix of several different scent styles.

Opening

Explorer opens up with a pretty sharp bergamot note. What I like about it, is the lack of pineapple that was always bothersome to me with Aventus. The bergamot gives you a bright quality, joined by sage, and a warm/spicy pink pepper.

Then, a second wave comes consisting of leather, woods, and ambroxan.

Platinum kicks off sweet, with a greenish, aquatic undertone. It actually has sort of a coconut-like aroma, and remind me a bit of Kenzo Intense. It’s strange, you do get the watery feel of the violet leaf note, but that doesn’t come across as being super powerful.

Sage is one thing that I do get a lot of. A woody mix of sage with that violet leaf undercurrent. Sort of like H24 meets that Kenzo. It’s bright, somewhat spicy, and ozonic. On the sample that I got, it talks about amber being here too, but it’s not officially listed online.

I do get a light touch of that, but kind of seems like that more generic ‘amberwood’ note these designers use.

Which is better? Honestly, I like the start of the original Explorer a lot more than Platinum. Platinum is unique, but feels more like an amalgam of a bunch of different scents, while not being exactly like any. Though, it’s only mildly enjoyable in the opening.

Projection

Explorer isn’t weak, I’ve never found it to be so. But, it does moderate fast and stay closer to the skin for the duration of the wear. The opening is pretty strong, not too heavy, but has a good reach.

With Platinum, it seems like a similar experience to the original. Pretty potent start, a lighter feeling with the ozonic aspect, but follows the same trajectory. I don’t really experience a difference between these two.

Edge: Push

Longevity

With the original Explorer, I’ve always gotten between 6-8 hours of wear. It kind of depends on the day, as to which outcome I am going to get, but it always lands in that range.

Explorer Platinum lasts around 9 hours on my skin. The performance is better for me than the original Explorer. So, if you like this one, you do get some good value. It’s not crazy powerful at that point, it is around, though.

Having worn both of these multiple times at least, Explorer Platinum gives me the longer wear between them, and takes this category.

Edge: Platinum

Versatility

Both of these are at their best in moderate to warmer temperatures. With Platinum, I think it extends a bit further into the heat than the original. Neither is great, when worn in the cold.

Very versatile fragrances, that can be worn in a wide variety of situations. I’d say the original Explorer is better at being used for day or night wear and can be worn on dates. While Platinum, is more limited in the daytime.

Not too big of a difference, but the original has a slight edge.

Overall Scent

Overall, which of these do I like more? I’d have to go with Explorer.

Yes, it imitates much of Aventus by Creed. Though, I like the toned down parts here (lack of pineapple and birch), and enjoy the use of cacao. The leather note when paired with that in the dry down, is really great.

I just think that the original Explorer is the better fragrance. Platinum is okay. I like it somewhat more than Ultra Blue and it can be a good fit for certain guys.

It’s smooth at times, has the ozonic/aquatic quality, which I like. Even if it stems from violet leaf, one of my least favorite notes. Ultimately though, it’s smoother middle act turns into something somewhat sour.

Like, it has that Santal 33 aspect of the woodiness, just not as good. And it’s mixed with the H24 and Kenzo Intense. Interesting, but not all that amazing, and it personally grinds on my nerves after a time.

Winner: Explorer

Who Should Buy Montblanc Explorer?

Buy Explorer if you want the better overall fragrance. It is the stronger choice if you like bergamot, sage, pink pepper, leather, cacao, vetiver, ambroxan, and woods. It is also the better pick if you want something more useful for day or night wear, dates, and moderate to warm weather.

Who Should Buy Montblanc Explorer Platinum?

Buy Explorer Platinum if you want the longer-lasting option and enjoy green, ozonic, aquatic, woody fragrances. It is better if you like violet leaf, sage, cedar, amber, and a slightly watery-coconut-like opening. It is not the better scent overall, but it can work well for guys who want something brighter, smoother, and more unusual.

Phantom vs. Versace Eros Comparison

Phantom has quickly become a best seller in the men’s fragrance world. Which means, that it is going to be compared to other scents in that realm, before a lot of guys actually make a purchase. One such alternative option, is the now decade-plus old Versace Eros EDT. Which one of these fragrances smells better? Lasts longer? Is the winner between them?

Quick Overview

My Verdict

Versace Eros is my pick between these two. Phantom has a good start with apple, lemon, lavender, vanilla, and a semi-tropical sweetness, but it becomes more average once the patchouli, herbal spice, and smoke come through.

If you want an inspired take on Phantom for cheaper, you can also try: Error 414 by Dua

Eros still has the better scent, stronger projection, better longevity, and more appeal for nights out or romantic wear.

Opening

So, Eros and it’s opening has changed to my nose over the years. Back in the day, the original was a balanced mix of mint, vanilla, lemon, and apple. Creamy and warm, sweet and enveloping.

While it hasn’t lost it entirely, to me, the newer batches have a higher weighting towards lemon in the mix. It’s still nice enough, I guess, but Eros EDT doesn’t have that same magic it once did.

With Phantom, I actually kind of like the start. Phantom kicks things off with apple and lemon notes, creating a juiciness that is quite nice. The aroma is semi-tropical and sweet, with the way it ties together. Under that, is lavender and vanilla, further pushing the aromatic creaminess.

That juicy citrus fruit opening will be pushed out by a drier and earthy aroma. The juiciness fades, and patchouli will have its time to shine, with an herbal sort of spice coming together. It dirties it up, and yes, there is a touch of smoke.

Which is better? I do like the use in Phantom of the lighter apple and lemon, with the sweetness and somewhat tropical appeal. However, I still do prefer Eros.

If we were comparing the 2012 batches to Phantom, it’s an easy win for Eros in the opening act. Nowadays, it’s still a victory, just not a complete blow out.

Projection

Eros is still a strong, heavy, and far reaching fragrance…just not to the same extent as in the past. It’s lost a step, but a limited Eros is bolder than most average colognes on the market by a wide mark.

Phantom kind of stays true to its name, in terms of how it projects early on. It initially seems like it’s going to be fairly massive, but then will moderate quite a bit in quick succession.

It will then, stick closer to the skin, to create a nice scent bubble. Not too crazy, but a big start from Phantom. Then, it’s basically middle of the road.

Longevity

When testing out Phantom, I was able to get somewhere in the 6 to 7 hour range of wear, on my skin. It’s pretty good, but for an EDP not ideal. It could’ve been boosted up a bit more.

Meanwhile, older bottles of Eros used to last and last. Easily getting past the double digit hour mark. Now? It still is capable of 10 hours. Not much beyond that, anymore, and more likely in the 8-ish hour range.

I think the projecting ability took more of a hit versus the longevity and this is still an easy win for Eros.

Versatility

Seasonally, both are at their best in the autumn and winter months. Phantom can probably extend a bit further into the springtime than Eros. I wouldn’t wear either in the summer, especially with high humidity.

I suppose each could be a daily wear for younger guys. For anyone older than their mid-20s, these would be more of a casual or laid back type of wear, not for the office.

I think Eros has an edge as a nightlife or romantic wear fragrance. I think it’s the sexier scent and one that will likely get more attention while wearing.

Phantom comes close, in this category with its extended weather usage. But, I think Eros still comes out ahead.

Overall Scent

Overall, which of these fragrances do I prefer? Eros. Personally, I don’t much get the hype about Phantom. It’s kind of strange, has it’s moments, and then is basically run of the mill thereafter.

I don’t completely dislike it. The lemon peel and apple note up top, when blended with everything is nice. Later, it’s completely average to me. The performance is okay. The smell is just okay. That’s it, across the board.

Eros has been around the block for a long time now. It used to be a complete love for me. Now, I do like it, I’m just not quite as high on this blue bottled beast.

It’s still a better fragrance than Phantom will ever be. I’d rather buy a bottle of the Versace every time versus the silver robot.

In fact, it is one which I actually prefer to the Dior fragrance. They share the bergamot, ambroxan, lavender, and pepper notes.

Carbon is smoother, less spicy with the pepper, but with more lavender. Carbon also has a slight metallic tinge, that Sauvage does not. I’ve compared these scents: here. Carbon has good performance and is a damn near clone of Sauvage, at times.

I recently wore both scents on back to back days. Honestly, my experience with Carbon was so much more enjoyable.

Plus, I can get 7-11 hours of nice wear from it. I’m not always in the mood for a lavender fragrance, but I cannot really say that I’m ever going to choose Sauvage EDT against this Prada cologne. Luna Rossa Carbon Review

The First Inspiration

Aromatic Star Anise by Dossier– Dossier is a brand that has become well-known for their fragrances which smell a great deal like popular designer perfumes. Aromatic Star Anise is their impression of Dior Sauvage.

With these, you don’t get a 100% accuracy, but to say that it is above 90% of the same smell wouldn’t be outrageous.

The same citrus, a focus one spicy star anise note (not the same Sichuan pepper, but a pepper note is there too), lavender, and the rest of the ingredients. 

All of that for the current price (as of writing) of $29. Beyond that, you can try it out and send the bottle back, if it doesn’t meet expectations. This is one from Dossier, I haven’t personally tried, but other options have been quite good.

Opening Salvo

Salvo Intense by Alhambra– I’m pretty sure that Alhambra has its own take on each of the Sauvage fragrances. The one linked is basically the formula for Sauvage EDP. Also, the Elixir version exists somewhere, but I haven’t tried it.

So, if you’re in the market for the Eau de Parfum of Sauvage and want a cheaper and well performing cologne that comes quite close to the original, Salvo Intense can do the job.

Bergamot, mandarin orange, vanilla, tonka bean, sandalwood, and more. A really good mimic overall, nice freshness, and a very inexpensive price point.

Inspired 2

Selvaggio by Fragrenza– Fragrenza is another brand with cheaper fragrance impressions of expensive designer scents. It’s not too well known, as of yet, but I was impressed by the batch of samples that I bought from the company.

The perfumes really came close to what they were trying to mimic, not exact dupes, just very close and had outstanding performance. Also, you don’t have to buy a full bottle, you can buy a smaller sample to see if you’d like to go ahead with committing to the larger size bottle.

Selvaggio is the company’s Sauvage inspired cologne. It has the same basic structure as our target, including the citrus and Sichuan pepper start. The full bottle currently goes for $39, which is a really low barrier to entry in comparison to Dior.

Inspiration of All Sauvage

Savage Elixir by The Dua Brand– If you’re looking for something very close to Sauvage EDT, the Dua Brand has you covered. 

However, it goes further than Dossier and Fragrenza, because it also has its inspired versions of Sauvage Elixir, Sauvage EDP, and blends with other famous colognes.

It sort of depends what’s in stock at the time, but they’re usually really good a re-upping the popular fragrances.

I haven’t had a bad experience with any of the inspired perfumes that I’ve bought from them in the past. Every one has been pretty much what you get with the designer brand, just sometimes a bit more linear and not the same exact depth.

But, if you want something very similar to Elixir, EDP, or EDT you can try out the options from Dua.

Better Sauvage Option

Sauvage by Dior Eau de Parfum Spray 60ml– The eau de parfum version of Sauvage, is obviously going to smell very much like the EDT original.

However, this one is arranged differently and smells better, in my opinion. This would be my first option, if I wanted a Sauvage fragrance.

The ambroxan note is stronger here from the start and takes the sharpness of the bergamot and Sichuan pepper away.

It also pairs a sweet and smoky vanilla note with the lavender and ambroxan, which gives it a nice distinction. Sauvage EDP also has great sillage and lasts for over 10 hours.

Yeah, it’s a flanker of Sauvage, but it still gives you enough of that original experience while being better in every regard. I’d also go with the Parfum version, before the EDT. Sauvage EDP Review

The First of Many

Club de Nuit Urban Elixir by Armaf– So this brand has seemingly endless variants of fragrances that smell close to either Sauvage or Creed Aventus. 

Urban Elixir is a great option for those who want something that is close to Sauvage EDT with the way that it smells. Maybe, a bit of EDP thrown in too. 

The citrus doesn’t seem as potent at the opening and there is a saffron note in this blend, which gives Urban Elixir a somewhat distinct aroma from the Dior fragrances. 

Good performance, well-blended, and very affordable. This checks a lot of boxes.

Close Elixir

Asad by Lattafa– As an alternative perfume option to Sauvage Elixir, this one doesn’t try to be exactly the same. However, it gets a lot of the beats right, creating a very similar profile to the Dior.

Really intense in the opening act. Asad goes with black pepper and tobacco, it’s sharp and fresh, and probably not the best aspect of the wear. 

It gets softer and more palatable as it dries down. Coffee, vanilla, iris, and amber resins round things out here. It doesn’t have that licorice of elixir, so the vibe is different.

It’s still fresh in the back half, but this has more of the vanilla and amber tempering the excesses of the opening.

Sauvage Elixir is the better of the two, this one is just way cheaper and gives you a similar style without trying to duplicate it exactly. If you want that, you can go with the Dua Brand’s perfume that I mentioned earlier.

In the Same Vein

VERSACE Dylan Blue Pour Homme Eau De Toilette Spray Box Sealed, 6.7 Ounce– Dylan Blue is a close relative of Sauvage, as an aroma. This Versace starts off with a similar citrus pairing of bergamot and grapefruit, ambroxan, and pepper.

However, Dylan Blue also has a slight aquatic element to it, and a very prominent fig note.

If Dylan Blue, could have retained much of the opening act, with that fig note…I would be a much bigger fan. I like it, but it’s not a love. In most cases, I think I’d wear this before Sauvage EDT, but it’s more of a tossup.

I wasn’t really sold on this cologne, when I first tried it out. However, I came around to liking the opening hour or two, the more I wore it. I’m still not completely impressed by the second act, nor the fairly standard performance, but it is a very good scent overall. Dylan Blue Review

 
 

A Cheaper Alternative?

F Armaf Ventana Pour Homme Eau De Parfum Spray for Men, 3.4 Fluid Ounce– Ok, so, Carbon is probably the best alternative fragrance at any price. However, if you want something similar down market, Ventana by Armaf is a really good affordable option.

Ventana has a spicy quality to it, but definitely not the same level of pepper intensity as our comparison.

This Armaf has a fruitier open with a nice amount of lavender. You get grapefruit and a light mandarin, with woody notes, and a weaker amber. Ventana isn’t as much of a sillage beast, as what we’re trying to replace, but it does have very good performance.

Plus, after the first hour it smells very very close to Sauvage, all for around $30 (usually).

Overall, Ventana is a more mellow and understated scent than the EDT version of Sauvage. It provides you a very good substitute for our target, at this price level, while still having enough of a personality to remain a distinct scent.

Cheaper Close Blend

ARMAF The Pride Eau De Parfum Spray for Men, Multi 3.4 Fl Oz– The Pride is another option from the Armaf line, with a bit of a creamier profile than Sauvage EDT and in some ways a closer to Sauvage EDP…but not quite.

The citrus opening is similar to, but not exactly the same as Sauvage. More of a pure lemon than bergamot. Beyond that, the spices here aren’t as intense as the Sichuan pepper note. It is fresher and has less of a warmth to it.

Nonetheless, for the price The Pride by Armaf is surprisingly deep and has a bit of its own personality versus just being another comparison of the best seller.

Bottom Priced Story

La Rive Extreme Story For Men Eau de Toilette 2.5 oz 75 ml Spray– Extreme Story has a nice amount going for it at such a low price. This one sells for around $10, at any given time. Just getting it out of the way, this isn’t as good as Dior.

However, it’s also not terrible like you might expect. Actually, it isn’t as sharp with its citrus notes, and doesn’t have that power kick from Sichuan pepper. It does still have plenty of spice, just in a different variety. Mainly, cardamom. 

This La Rive cologne is fresh and has a cleaner floral/soapier aroma than does the more expensive designer scent. Geranium, lavender, and vetiver notes will do that.

The overlap is going to mostly be in the lavender and citrus notes, add spices/freshness and you’ve got something pretty close.

Less Citrus, Fresh, and Surprisingly Good

Ajmal Kuro for Men Eau de Parfum Spray, 3 Ounce– I became aware of Ajmal as a brand, after finding some of their women’s releases that also were close comparable aromas of famous perfumes.

Does this one replicate Sauvage? Ehh, a lot of the DNA is there, but not entirely to my nose.

The citrus notes are brought way down in comparison. It’s like Sauvage stripped of much of its citrus, more focused on freshness (geranium is pretty strong here), woodier, but with a nice lavender (actually much like Luna Rossa Carbon).

Performance is solid for around 6 hours and it only runs about $25 currently. Kuro is worth a shot.

A Bluer Parfum

Faris by Kajal– This isn’t a cheaper alternative. In fact, it can be pricier than Sauvage. However, it is a great alternative and more so favors Sauvage Parfum, while still doing its own thing.

This still has a spiciness to it with a clove, but it doesn’t come across the same as the Sichuan pepper in Sauvage. Personally, I like the change. There’s a deeper lavender and a freshness coming from the top juniper note.

More floral at times, but less of the citrus and not an explosion of lavender for the entire wear. Great performance too. Not exactly like Sauvage, it still has its own personality, but it covers much of the same ground in a great way.
