Burberry Brit vs Burberry for Men Cologne Comparison

I really do enjoy Burberry’s lineup of men’s fragrances for casual wear (not Weekend, though). I’ve owned bottles of both Brit and Burberry for Men throughout the years and I always find myself going back and forth between them and Burberry London on autumn and winter days. So, in today’s cologne comparison I thought that I’d put two of these scents head to head and give my take on which one is the better buy. Which one lasts longer? Which one projects better? Which one is better smelling?

Opening

The opening of Burberry for Men is a smooth blast of cool mint blended with warm amber and a prominent cedar note. Meanwhile, Brit provides a slightly spicy ginger not combined with rose and tonka bean.

Brit is fresh and already begins to develop its powdery air. To me, there really isn’t any separation during the opening sequence for each scent. They both start out very nicely and it mostly depends what mood I’m in when selecting between them.

Projection

Both of these scents are rather moderate in how they project. I think Burberry for Men feels a little bit bolder based on the mint note while Brit is a softer and perhaps cleaner type of an experience. For that reason, I’ll give the nod to Burberry for Men but it isn’t a huge gap.

Longevity

Both have good performance in this category. However, I usually get better wear out of Brit despite it being a softer cologne. Burberry for men usually gets 6-7 hours while Brit is hovering around 8. Again, not a big difference but a bit of an edge.

Versatility

Burberry for Men and Brit are both great and safe for casual everyday wear. I’ve worn both on dates but I’d say Burberry for Men is the sexier one between the two. Though, neither are really nightlife colognes. These are autumn/winter fragrances, so, don’t expect to wear either in the heat. I’d say Burberry for Men is best in fall and Brit is better in winter.

Overall Scent

Gahhhh, I really like both of these scents (as well as London). Burberry makes some very good everyday wear colognes for men. So, to me, it comes down to my particular mood that day.

Update: I’m changing my pick to Brit. I picked up another bottle of both of these and Brit was what I wanted to use a lot more often.

On the other hand, Brit is a great all around buy and it will work for most guys. If you like something more woodsy/masculine Burberry for Men is right in the middle between London (more masculine and woodsy) and Brit.

Brit definitely has a softer green/powdery kind of scent, so if that’s not your thing go with Burberry for Men.

Burberry is one of the most popular fragrance/fashion brands on the planet. They have so many best selling scents and have been doing so for the past few decades, seemingly on a regular basis. Today, I want to take a closer look at two of their men’s colognes, Mr. Burberry EDT vs. Burberry Brit. Which of these scents smells the best? Which lasts longer? Which is the better buy?

Opening

Mr. Burberry starts off with a grapefruit top note, woods, and some mint which adds a cooled spice to the aroma. It’s pleasant, not harsh, clean, and pretty simple. There is also a slight herbal scent to the composition, but I’m never too impressed with how it start, but it’s solid.

Brit, on the other hand, is very fresh with a great blend of ginger, tonka bean, and nutmeg. It’s got a green spiciness that isn’t sharp, and is instead, muted by some really nice wild rose.

This is a fresh and powdery kind of cologne, all of the notes work together in conjunction and none ever feels too dominant.

Which is better? I enjoy the start of Brit much more than Mr. Burberry, it is more engaging and interesting. I love the variety of notes, instead of a simplistic citrus woods.

Projection

Neither one of these fragrances is a monster in terms of sillage. They are both fairly moderate and I don’t really notice a difference in how they project.

Longevity

With Mr. Burberry I get 5-7 hours of wear on my skin, which is decent. Burberry Brit is better and more consistent and will go 8 hours on my skin.

Edge: Brit

Versatility

Seasonally, Mr. Burberry has more of a year round appeal. Brit is more of an autumn/winter scent that can extend into springtime. Mr. Burberry holds up better in the warmer climate.

Both of these are great for work, casual, or just wanting to be low key. Pretty much the same, but Mr. Burberry has better extension into all of the seasons.

Overall Scent

Mr. Burberry is a nice smelling scent with pretty average performance and is basic all around. I think it is pleasant to wear, but not something that I ever want to reach for. There’s nothing too interesting about that cologne.

Brit, on the other hand, is among my favorite releases for Burberry. It is a very green, fresh, and powdery cologne, so not everyone will be into it. However, it does what it does very well. It is intriguing, with spices, hints of citrus, and a nice addition of rose.

It’s something that I reach for on certain days in the fall or winter and actually enjoy wearing. It takes this battle.

Best Leather Scented Colognes for Men

Leather is a common note in men’s fragrances which helps to give it a masculine air that is both smooth and crisp. Not everyone is a fan of this kind of scent but when it is done well, the result can be incredibly amazing. In this post, I want to explore some options for guys who enjoy a good leather note being featured prominently in their colognes. This is by no means an exhaustive list but one which can definitely help point one in the right direction searching for the best leather fragrance.

What are the Best Smelling Leather Colognes for Men?

The Classic Tom Ford

Tom Ford Tuscan Leather Eau De Parfume Spray for Men, 1.7 Ounce
I’ll start things off with this higher priced option from Tom Ford. This one is bold, heavy, and quite leathery in its presentation. This one isn’t for everybody, but Tuscan Leather (review here) shines, with amazing performance and longevity.

Tuscan Leather grows darker, warmer, and deeper with amber and a bit of smokiness. Overall, this is a fabulous fragrance, with a great smell and performance.

Spicy Fendi Leather

Fendi Fan Di Pour Homme Eau de Toilette Spray for Men, 1.7 Ounce– Fan Di Fendi is a line that has gotten overlooked for the past few years. I wore the Aqua version, over the summer, and it’s got a lot of positive qualities. This fragrance, is another option that sits in the same ballpark, as Spicebomb.

This one amps up the leather, gives you the pink pepper/cardamom combo, and a solid woody base. Smooth with a bit of citrus, not as rough, and has a better ability to venture into warmer weather. The good news is, this stuff has been heavily discounted.

Smooth Polo Fragrance

Ralph Lauren Polo Supreme Leather Eau de Parfum Spray for Men, 4 Ounce– Supreme Leather from Polo is a really great addition to the list. It starts out with some spiciness of nutmeg and cardamom. Those notes, along with the honey create a warmth and ‘thick’ sort of feeling, along with the underlying sweetness.

All of this of course, is surrounded by the smell of fine leather. The spice isn’t too strong, especially after the opening, but Supreme Leather does get to function as a gourmand leathery scent.

Smooth, Dry Leather

John Varvatos FOR MEN by John Varvatos – 2.5 oz EDT Spray
Fresh leather with a bit of fruit thrown in such as dates and lime, at the beginning . Smooth, fresh, and inviting. The leather is put together with a warm and enveloping amber note, which sits on top of a woody base.

Very nice development over the life of this cologne. At times, it is sweet, then it becomes dry, and finally a crispy spice. A great go to scent for daily wear.

Oud and Leather

Juicy Couture Dirty English Colognes for Men, 0.16 Ounce
Dirty English is an inexpensive option from Juicy Couture but it is surprisingly good. The leather note is prominent but isn’t the only attraction here, Dirty English is smooth, rich, and complex. It’s a very woody blend with the leather, oud being the other main ingredient.

This Juicy Couture cologne is very dry, but you get hints of citrus juiciness, and the smooth leather. Oud, cypress, and a slight boozy note get paired with the leather.  My Juicy Couture Review

Blended Fragrance

Armani Code By Giorgio Armani For Men. Eau De Toilette Spray 4.2 Oz.
Smooth blend of leather, citrus, and tobacco notes which creates a masculine and somewhat powdery cologne that has become a classic in its own right. This isn’t my favorite Code scent, but, it is the one with the most leather.

The newer formulations start out with citrus and star anise. Then, the dry down gives you more of the leather that is paired with tonka bean and a nice tobacco note. Not a ‘pure leather’ fragrance, but a cologne that is led by the note, while being well rounded.  My full Armani Code Review

My Favorite Tom Ford Leather Fragrance

Ombré Leather Eau de Parfum Spray, 1.7-oz.–Ombre Leather is a new 2018 release, but one that I’m really enjoying. It is unisex scent but leans more masculine, in my mind. This fragrance is very dry and warm, with leather being the main star.

However, it is joined by amber and moss, that play the background. The description by the marketing department at Tom Ford, describe this one, as taking a lot of cues from the arid landscape of the western United States.

Jasmine is another important part of Ombre Leather and it is shockingly good when put together with the leather in this fragrance. The leather is rich and very smooth, it really reminds me of a supple leather jacket.

The dry down period is mostly about the jasmine and leather notes, being at the forefront. Smooth, sweet, lightly floral, and with that subtle amber note hovering in the background.

Grassy Floral Leather 

Fahrenheit By Christian Dior For Men. Eau De Toilette Spray 6.8 Oz.
A classic from the 1980s that has as many fans as it does people who dislike it, it seems. Leather plays a major role in this manly scent.

Leather is prominent here, along with violet leaf, which brings about the famous ‘gasoline’ smell. Well, with honeysuckle and the violet leaf, being so heavy in the opening that’s what you get with this composition.

Nonetheless, it does settle down thereafter, and you get a floral accord consisting mostly of jasmine. This one still packs a punch, but isn’t the exact same, as it was back 30+ years ago. Another dry, grassy, and interesting use of leather. My Fahrenheit Review

Sweet with Saffron

Parfums de Marly Godolphin Men’s Edp Spray, 4.2 Ounce–Godolphin is a very enjoyable fragrance to my nose.  It opens with a blend of herbal notes and a hint of fruit. I mainly get a sense of saffron poking through. However, the main note that comes into play is a smooth and beautiful leather that mixes with a woody base.

The leather note with the saffron is remarkably great. I was surprised when trying Godolphin out, how much I actually dug the scent. It’s invigorating to smell and has a layer of floral notes which allows the scent to have complexity and balance. Godolpin Review

Mr. Burberry vs Dior Sauvage Cologne Comparison

For this comparison, I want to breakdown two very popular eau de toilette scents for men: Sauvage by Christian Dior vs. Mr. Burberry. Which one of these colognes is the better bet for most guys to try out? I am only comparing the EDT versions of these fragrances (which are the best sellers) and not the EDP’s, so keep that in mind. As usual, I will cover what’s inside, how each smells, performs, which is more versatile, and which is ultimately the winner.

Opening

Sauvage opens up with a bold and rather sharp bergamot note that is joined by calming lavender and a peppery kick. Within about 20 minutes, the warm smoothness of the ambroxan, takes the edge off of the pepper and the citrus notes settles down as well.

Mr. Burberry also opens up with a citrus note, this time, it is grapefruit. That is blended with woody notes, sandalwood and cedar, to create a subtle and super smooth aroma. There is also a cooling sensation from mint, that is brought in but isn’t too heavy. It’s quite clean and crisp. Plus, has an herbal undertone that emerges more later in the wear.

Which is better? Well, I’m not in love with either. Sauvage seems somewhat harsh to my nose at first but it settles down. Meanwhile, Mr. Burberry is pleasant, but isn’t all that interesting. Sauvage definitely captures my attention more and just has a better smell.

Edge: Sauvage 

Projection

I’ve always felt that the Dior fragrance was on the upper end of the moderate scale in terms of sillage and at times it can definitely be quite strong. With Sauvage, if you spray too much, it does have the ability to consume a room.

Mr. Burberry doesn’t do that. It is moderate and really completely average in how it projects off of my skin, definitely not as strong as Sauvage. I actually wish that the Mr. Burberry fragrances had more power, I don’t find either of them to be great.

Edge: Sauvage 

Longevity

For me, they are almost the same in terms how long they last, but Sauvage is just a little bit better. I get 5-7 hours from Mr. Burberry. Sauvage is usually 6-7. However, plenty of folks say they get all day wear from Sauvage, so it’s got the edge versus Mr. Burberry.

Sauvage EDT isn’t great but it’s a winner, in comparison. Sauvage Parfum and EDP are much better in this regard.

Edge: Sauvage

Versatility

There’s no real separation between these two fragrances in this category. Both of them are highly versatile and can be worn in a wide variety of situations and climates. That is one of the main selling points of each, is that, they aren’t limited to one specific time of year or situation.

Edge: Push

Overall Scent

Mr. Burberry is a pleasant scent to wear. It is low key and has a nice freshness from the grapefruit, woods, and herbal blend. It is a solid everyday wear and a totally non-offensive fragrance. I like it, but it never interested me, whenever I wore it. The whole thing felt rather flat and uninspired. I always wanted to wear something else before reaching for this.

I’m also no Sauvage fan boy, as I’ve made that clear in other posts. However, I do like it more than Mr. Burberry, and would prefer to wear it between the two of them. I think the overall fragrance smells better, has more energy, better performance, etc.

If it came solely down to price, I might pick Mr. Burberry, if I could get a better deal. But even that’s not a guarantee. Sauvage is the winner in this contest. If you want something that smells quite similar to Sauvage, that can usually be purchased for cheaper, try Luna Rossa Carbon.

I think Sauvage EDP is better than either. Mr. Burberry EDP smells good, but the performance is bad. So, I’d go with any of the Dior offerings before Mr. Burberry.

Here in yet another cologne comparison posts, I want to put two Burberry scents head to head, Brit and London. Now, I wear both of these colognes and enjoy both of them a lot. So, I do recommend both of them, but I want to break things down further to see what separates the two. Which one performs better? Which is sexier? What do they smell like? Which one is better overall?

Opening

London is a darker and much more masculine scent than is Brit. London features a sweet tobacco leaf note that blends with cinnamon, pepper, port wine, and leather for a spicy and smooth start. The leather comes on stronger a bit later and the port wine ultimately disappears.

The opening is when London is at its spiciest and when it has a boozy edge. The cinnamon and pepper can be quite sharp, but it’s held in check by that tobacco note.

Brit on the other hand, is fresh and powdery with a hint of spice provided by the ginger note. The opening isn’t quite as smooth, as it will ultimately be. In fact, the opening feels quite green with the wild rose note, nutmeg, and a green mandarin orange. Not when Brit is at its best.

Brit is eventually much cleaner but I think that London is way more interesting and attention grabbing, at the start. The opening isn’t a strength for either, but London has a better go of it.

Edge: London

Projection

London is the heavier of the two scents. However, neither is really overpowering by any stretch. I’d say London is on the upper edge of moderate and Brit is a softer moderate.

Both do their job and do it well, just because it’s softer doesn’t mean Brit is weak BUT I’d say London gets the edge. I never have any issue with either being detected, either by my nose, or by those around me.

Edge: London

Longevity

Both sit in the 6-8 hour range for wear. There really isn’t an advantage between either to me in this category. I’d say both tend more toward 8 hours versus 6. I’ve tried recent bottles of each and the performance is still the same.

Edge: Push

Versatility

Both of these colognes are in the autumn/winter wear category of men’s fragrances. I have worn both casually and on dates. I’d say that London is definitely sexier and more of a romantic cologne than is Brit.

I’ll give London the edge because I think it is a better evening wear fragrance but again Brit isn’t bad by any means. Neither is going to be one you’ll want to wear in the summer months.

Overall

I honestly do love wearing both of these scents. As I said in the Burberry for Men vs Brit cologne comparison, I often will switch between these colognes depending on my mood.  Brit is a very good scent, I love its freshness and powdery/green aroma on cold winter days.

London is just an interesting fragrance. It is spicy, woodsy, dark, and kind of boozy. London is the most masculine of the three while Brit is the softest.

London won’t be for everybody and plenty of guys will enjoy the rose, tonka, and ginger notes of Brit; but I’m going to give the edge to London. Conversely, there are plenty of guys who won’t like the powdery quality of Brit, even though it is a dynamic example.

Updating here in 2020, I’d rank them: 1. London, 2. Brit, 3. Burberry for Men. I have been loving wearing Burberry Brit, lately, as I more recently purchase a new full bottle.
