Dirty English by Juicy Couture Cologne Review

I am updating this original review from five plus years ago, as I’ve spent much more time with this Juicy Couture fragrance, and want to expand upon things. Dirty English has begun to enjoy a popularity of sorts nowadays, because the price has come down so much, that it can be a nice buy for not a lot. Some guys may be reluctant to try a cologne from a brand that the word ‘juicy’ stretched across many overweight women’s sweat pants but I assure you that this is a really nice scent for guys to try out. Though, it is not for everyone, Dirty English has a deep and masculine scent which will work for many men who don’t enjoy the fruitier or more aquatic scented colognes.

My Full Wear Review

Dirty English opens up with a blast of oud, which is flanked by black leather, and very light citrus from mandarin orange and bergamot. The citrus adds just a bit of bright juiciness to the fragrance, that is overall pretty dry.

That dryness is a factor of all of the wood notes that are present in this Juicy Couture cologne,as there is also a distinct cypress from the beginning, and runs through the heart of things.

Things begin to get smoother, as it wears on further. The oud is still very noticeable, however, the leather and other variety of woods get heavier to balance the composition out.

You also do get elements of moss and vetiver coming through, this has a definite outdoorsy aroma, but doesn’t stray too far into that space thanks to the lovely leather note and spice. The spice in this one isn’t heavy and is mostly provided by cardamom.

What I ultimately get from Dirty English is a leathery oud with plenty of dry warmth and a slight boozy aroma, that I don’t really know what’s causing that effect. You do get whiff of mandarin orange throughout the wear, which is a good change of pace. Oh and lots of smooth fresh woods.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

Projection wise, this stuff is strong. Not insanely heavy, but I don’t need much of it. Now, I will say that my bottle is from 2015, and I’ve heard about possible reformulations of this. I don’t know, but its performance was always very good.

Here’s what I had to say in the original review from 5 years back: Dirty English is definitely not a light fragrance, it has a certain strength and heaviness to it, so overdoing it will probably produce bad results for those wearing it. One spray on the neck and another rubbed between my wrists and forearms is all that I have been using.

The longevity gives me 8+ hours on my skin, with that bottle that I have. It will keep going and never quits early on me.

Seasonally, this is a cold weather fragrance, all the way.  I have thus far only received positive reactions while wearing this cologne. As fall is just now kicking off, this is another great one to pair with the crisp weather. it could be termed a ‘sexy’ cologne, just not a sweet one.

Definitely skip wearing Dirty English when it gets warmer outside. It turns messy in the heat.

This fragrance is fresh and manly, which is what one would suspect with notes of leather, woodsy elements, and that dirty oud note. Don’t think I’d wear this one to the office or school, but outside of that, I will.

Overall Impressions of Dirty English

Overall, do I like Dirty English? Yes, I think that it is a wonderful cheapie, as the price from its original release has come down so much. It has a very masculine and unique vibe, which I like, and the performance has always been great for me.

It’s one that I reach for when I want to wear a dry woody scent and the leather is always something that I’ve enjoyed about it.

Curve by Liz Claiborne Cologne Review

One of the most popular fragrances for men on the market, always seems to be Curve by Liz Claiborne. Yes, this cologne always sits among the list of best sellers and has developed quite a following for itself since its 1996 release. Why? Is it because it is the most complex scent out there? No, it’s a rather simple fragrance that blends its notes nicely. Is it the most masculine? Again, no. Quite simply, Curve is just a great smelling cologne which is available at a very affordable price. In this post, I want to take a bit of a closer look at Curve and examine what makes it so good.

What does Curve by Liz Claiborne Smell Like?

Notes include: fresh greens, pepper, lemon, pineapple, neroli, lavender, sage, cactus, sandalwood, juniper, ginger, cedar, amber, mahogany and water

My Full Wear Review

Curve became absolute legend when it was released back in the 90s. I remember that my dad used to wear this for a while and I thought it smelled fantastic.

It opens up with a blend of lemon, pineapple, and some neroli. It’s got a nice citrus zest, is a bit sharp, but flanked by spicy notes like ginger, pepper, and sage. The opening is quite lemony and the pineapple is very noticeable as well, the spice notes are none too heavy, but are prominent during the early stages.

After that initial bit, Curve really gets going with the lavender note. That is probably the most important aspect of this fragrance and gives the composition its fresh and clean disposition. Curve smells sweet and warm, with bits of light coolness, breathing through the middle of the cologne.

Still, the citrus top notes are the main attractions, and when paired with that lavender note, it is great. This Liz Claiborne fragrance also features a cactus note, much like Tommy by Tommy Hilfiger, does. It must have been a thing in the late 90s to add cactus to popular scents, perhaps, that is the secret to their success.

During the dry down, the woody base emerges, led by the mahogany note. There is also some non-distinct sandalwood and cedar lurking in the back, but mahogany is the strongest. So, you have a super fresh ctirus/green scent with light spices/musk and a woody base.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

Projection wise, Curve never really had a huge sillage to me, it could start off fairly strong but would sink into a lighter moderate area. That’s about what one should expect. Not a powerhouse, but a very nice value play.

The longevity is around 5-7 hours on my skin, not much more than that. However, with a scent like this, it’s really all you need much of the time. If you want something longer lasting, you will most likely move to something more upscale.

Seasonally, it reminds me of spring, but really it’s a year round cologne. It can be worn casually, at work, school, or out on a date. This stuff will always get complements, I’m convinced of that fact.

It’s probably best for younger men, but all ages could wear it. If you need something fancier or more formal, Curve isn’t going to be the one. As a fresh aromatic cheapie? It’s great.

You can get it for cheap, but it will still get more positive reactions than many of the higher end fragrances for men. I don’t know what it is, but I cannot honestly disagree, as I love the way this smells.

That’s not to say that it will outshine all designer colognes, but it for sure punches above its weight class.

Overall Impressions of Curve

Curve is a great starter cologne for guys in high school up through college. Heck, I’d still wear it, if I had a bottle right now. It’s not my favorite fragrance of all time or anything, but you cannot really deny the power that this stuff has had for over 20 years.

Women love it. Like, it is unreasonable the attention that a simple cheapie like this brings, but it’s worth every penny. If you want something fresh, clean, and attractive for cheap…it’s not something you can go wrong with.

Less of a sexy smell and more of just something that is very attractive and pleasant to people. The performance is solid enough and the price is great. Curve is classic.

Best Colognes for a Night Out: Evening Wear Fragrances for Men

Like many other fashion accessories men’s fragrances have uses that are applicable to only certain times of year and places you visit. For instance, wearing a certain eau de toilette at work may not go over well with your clients or co-workers but the same scent for a night out on the town would prove quite seductive for the ladies. There are however, plenty of scents that balance between work and play and provide a man versatility to smell great in all circumstances. The following list of colognes consist of what I feel are the top colognes for evening wear, especially at hangouts such as bars and clubs. Some on the list will be specifically tailored for those places while others will offer the aforementioned versatility.

Higher Energy by Christian Dior– This highly sensual fragrance from the house of Dior, has an energetic spice to it that is very pleasing to the senses. Higher Energy is a scent that isn’t too heavy but does allow for use in multiple venues and situations. Higher Energy Review

Bvlgari Extreme– A woody eau de toilette with a touch of oriental spice to it. This is a nightlife fragrance through and through, sexy and masculine. Best Bvlgari Colognes

Joop!– A classic from the late 1980s that remains popular to this day. On the more inexpensive side but still delivers a great fragrance for those nights out. Joop! Review

La Nuit De L’homme by YSL– I love colognes from Yves Saint Laurent and this is amongst the best. A pretty unique fragrance, that not too many guys wear, so this could be a good bet for a signature scent. Long lasting and an all-around fantastic smell. Top YSL Scents

Euphoria by Calvin Klein– Women seem to enjoy this scent by Calvin Klein. Many of Klein’s fragrances are unisex and while there is a Euphoria for women also, this one is just right for men.

Gucci Guilty– Gucci has made some amazing scents for both men and women over the years. Guilty is a response to the popularity of the female edition with the same name. Notes include lemon and orange blossom but settle into a unique and sensual experience.

Dirty English by Juicy Couture– A charismatic aroma that might not be for all tastes but definitely one that is unique and will capture positive attention. Dirty English Review

Givenchy Play Intense– You may have seen advertisements for this cologne featuring Justin Timberlake but beyond just the promotion of Play Intense hides a remarkable fragrance for the nightlife.

Perry Ellis 360 Red– An inexpensive fragrance that delivers an aroma that rivals the more expensive designer options. Great for younger guys.

Arrogant by English Laundry– Yeah, the name is quite to the point, isn’t it? Don’t let that hold you back from trying this one out because it is a great smelling cologne. Lots of complements with this one.

There you have it, a sampling of the best colognes for a night out. Going out provides men with an opportunity to use a more unique scent that exudes sexuality and will attract the opposite sex. By no means is this meant to be a complete list, however, choosing any of the colognes on this list won’t steer you too wrong because they all have established track records with many satisfied customers.
