For this men’s cologne comparison, I want to take a close look at two entries from Mont Blanc’s collection of scents, Individuel vs. Legend. Which one of these popular perfumes, has the better smell? Which lasts longer?

I will compare them in the usual categories and have included my full review of each linked below. Then, I will declare which one I think is actually the top fragrance.

Quick Overview

Mont Blanc Individuel has a combination of cinnamon, vanilla, sandalwood, raspberry, bergamot, and juniper creates a creamy, lightly spiced fragrance that resembles a softer and more affordable take on Creed Original Santal.

Mont Blanc Legend is the fresher and more versatile option. Its pineapple, apple, bergamot, lavender, tonka bean, and woody notes create a crisp, clean fragrance that works more comfortably across different seasons and climates.

Choose Legend for a safe year-round everyday scent, but choose Individuel for the more enjoyable aroma and better staying power.

Category Mont Blanc Legend Mont Blanc Individuel Winner
Opening Opens with crisp pineapple, apple, and bergamot over lavender and tonka bean. Clean, attractive, and very easy to wear. Starts with cinnamon, vanilla, and sandalwood, supported by raspberry, bergamot, and juniper. Sweeter, creamier, and more distinctive. Individuel
Projection Moderate projection with a noticeable but controlled scent trail. It stays safe and unobtrusive around other people. Also projects at a moderate level. It has good sillage, but is not significantly louder than Legend. Push
Longevity Usually lasts around 5–6 hours, delivering consistent but fairly average wear time. Generally lasts around 6–8 hours, giving it a clear advantage of a few additional hours. Individuel
Versatility Works well for casual wear, work, and daytime use throughout most of the year. It handles warmer climates better. Best for casual wear, work, and daytime use in cooler weather through spring. Its warm sweetness is less suitable for high heat. Legend
Overall Scent A simple, clean, and non-offensive blend of citrus, fruit, lavender, tonka bean, and woods. Highly wearable, but not especially unique. A sweet and lightly spiced blend of cinnamon, vanilla, sandalwood, and raspberry. More memorable and slightly more enjoyable overall. Individuel

Opening

Individuel is led by notes of cinnamon, vanila, and sandalwood. It is sweet, creamy, and a slightly spiced woody aroma that reminds me a lot of Original Santal or a toned down, Joop!

What separates it from those two fragrances, is the bergamot, juniper, and raspberry notes. That gives Individuel a fruitier aroma than those other two.

Individuel will become woodier and creamier with the vanilla taking on more of a role. The raspberry also hangs around, as we move along.

Legend starts off with fruit notes of pineapple, apple, and bergamot. They are very clean with a nice crisp scent. Then, you get a layer of both tonka bean and lavender.

The lavender note and the woods, will dry this one out a bit, further along into the wear. Less crisp than in the initial stages.

Which is better? I like the opening of Legend, it is attractive and easy to wear. However, Individuel has that warm sweetness, that is very easy to enjoy. It’s like a more affordable Original Santal, especially at the start, and that’s a scent I like a lot.

Edge: Individuel

Projection

Both of these fragrances are pretty moderate. The sillage is good, but not huge, for either.

Legend has a nice sillage, but things lighten up rather quickly. On me at least, it becomes a fairly intimate scent for most of the wear.

Individuel also has a similar path. I’d say it’s sitting in that 3-5 foot range from the skin for a good portion of the wear.

No real clear winner for this category.

Edge: Push

Longevity

Individuel lasts for about 6-8 hours, on my skin. That’s a solid amount of time and will work for most purposes.

With Legend, I get 5-6 hours, and that is pretty consistent. Some people seem to get better results with this cologne, but it’s been the same for me over the years regardless of the batch they roll out.

Individuel isn’t an insanely long lasting cologne, but it wins this round.

Edge: Individuel

Versatility

Both of these colognes are casual, work, and daytime wears mostly. You can wear them out for an evening, but they aren’t really ‘sexy’ or club beasts, by any stretch. However, Legend can fit in more year round, in all climates.

Meanwhile, Individuel, is better in cooler weather and can venture into springtime. Not that good in the heat.

Edge: Legend

Overall Scent

Mont Blanc Legend to me, is a simple and pleasant fragrance, that is very versatile with a clean and non-offensive aroma. It’s really popular because it has that great citrus, tonka bean, and lavender scent with some woodiness in the base to add depth.

Individuel, is the slightly better option, in my mind. It has that Original Santal-like blend but with an added raspberry note, which keeps it sweet and quite fresh. It’s not an amazing fragrance, but I’ve always enjoyed it a bit more than wearing Legend.

Matter of fact, Legend Night, is the best Mont Blanc cologne and what I wear consistently.

I like this sweet warm smell with hints of cinnamon and sandalwood, that is in Individuel. Plus, it will give me a few extra hours of wear. It’s a close contest, but I know which I give the win to.

Winner: Individuel
