Burberry Her EDT vs EDP

Her is a very popular series from Burberry nowadays. It has spawned more than a handful of flankers up to this point in time. I’ve been familiar with the eau de parfum for quite a while, but wanted to compare it to Her Eau de Toilette, which I’d only encountered once. So, this is my page for that.

How does each of them smell? How long do they last? Which is the better perfume pick?

Quick Overview

🏆 My Verdict

Burberry Her EDT wins on opening and overall scent, while Burberry Her EDP wins on projection and longevity. Versatility is basically a push because the EDP works better outside of summer, while the EDT specializes more in spring and summer.

Buy Her EDT if you want the fresher, more interesting pear, black currant, strawberry, and floral version with very little performance drop-off.

Buy Her EDP if you want the stronger, longer-lasting berry-heavy scent.

Category Burberry Her EDP Burberry Her EDT Winner
Opening Strong citrus and berry opening with strawberry, raspberry, brightness, and some jasmine Pear-led opening with strawberry, black currant, pink pepper, lily of the valley, and peony Her EDT
Projection Pretty strong at first, then moderates after the first hour or so Starts fairly strong and comes close to EDP, but not quite as high at the peak Her EDP
Longevity Usually 7–8 hours, sometimes slightly above 8 About 7 hours Her EDP
Versatility Best outside of summer; pleasant daytime wear that skews younger Spring and summer vibe; light, fresh, pleasant daytime wear Push
Overall Scent Sweet-tart berry fruitiness with strawberry, citrus, raspberry, and a less original back half Fresher pear, black currant, strawberry, and floral profile with the better opening and dry down Her EDT
Best For Those who want stronger berry projection and slightly longer wear Those who want the fresher, more interesting version with near-EDP performance

Opening

Burberry Her EDP starts off with a strong use of its citrus and berry notes. The fruitiness is powerful in the early stages. Strawberry is the strongest note of the lot, with some additional raspberry and brightness of the citrus notes.

It can be sharp and sour versus being sugary sweet or anything. The floral notes aren’t all that strong, but there is a decent amount of jasmine at times.

EDT also has that strawberry note. However, it starts off with the pear note being the lead. Under that, I get more of the black currant than I do the strawberry. It’s fresh and kind of watery, with a touch of pink pepper breaking up the sweetness.

But, what I do notice between these two options, is that Her EDT uses its floral notes a bit more in the early stages. Lily of the valley is the main focus, though, I get some peony also.

Which is better?

I don’t have a huge preference for one versus the other at this early stage. But, I do lean more towards the EDT version. The pear, freshness, greenish qualities are a bit more interesting than what I get from EDP.

Edge: Her EDT

Projection

Her EDP kicks off things with a pretty strong ability to project and leave a scent trail in one’s wake. It will moderate in the back half of the first hour or so.

Still, it doesn’t feel weak ever, until we get to the absolute depths of the wear.

EDT actually comes close to matching what EDP does. It starts fairly strong as well. Maybe not as high of a peak, but it’s not completely weak either. It then follows the same sort of trajectory on the way down.

Edge: EDP

Longevity

Her EDP will generally hit the 7-8 hour range on my skin. Maybe it can go a little bit above 8 hours, at times, but not much. It’s actually been fairly steady for me over all of the testing of this perfume that I’ve done.

With EDT, it is once again, almost as good as the eau de Parfum. Yet, it still falls short. On my skin, I got about 7 hours out of this one.

So, maybe 60-90 more minutes of wear with Her EDP. Not a massive difference, but a win.

Edge: Her EDP

Versatility

Her EDP is one that I like in every season except for the summertime. I don’t think it holds up all that well in the heat and humidity. Meanwhile, EDT specializes in the warmer months of the year. It very much has a spring and summer vibe to it. Light and fresh.

Neither of these are formal wear perfumes, nor are they completely mature. More pleasant daytime wears, that skew a bit younger without being childish.

I don’t know if there’s an advantage here.

Edge: Push

her edp vs edt

Overall Scent

So, overall, which Burberry Her do I like more? EDP or EDT?

They’re not too far off from one another. Each fragrance has some things that I enjoy about them.

With Burberry Her EDP, I do like that opening fruitiness, as it does offer something somewhat different from Cloud and BR 540 which it often gets compared to. Not totally different, but sweeter and more tart, in that opening act.

The back half is fine. Nothing too original there.

I do think that I slightly prefer Her EDT to the eau de parfum version. Actually, I think Intense is better than either of these, but my pick is EDT out of these two. There are some other perfumes similar to Burberry Her.

With EDT, you don’t get much decline in the performance versus EDP. Also, I think the opening and back half of the perfume smells better. The opening of Her EDP was my favorite part of that scent, but EDT outshines it there too.

Winner: EDT

Who Should Buy Each?

Choose Burberry Her EDP if:

You want the stronger performer between the two
You prefer strawberry, raspberry, citrus, cherry, blueberry, musk, amber, and jasmine
You like sweet-tart berry fragrances with a more powerful opening
You want slightly better longevity than the EDT
You do not mind that the back half is less original than the opening

Choose Burberry Her EDT if:

You want the better overall scent between the two
You prefer pear, strawberry, black currant, pink pepper, peony, rose, honeysuckle, musk, cedar, and lily of the valley
You want something fresher, lighter, and more spring/summer friendly
You like a more floral, greenish, watery take on the Her DNA
You want performance that comes close to the EDP without losing much wear time

Burberry Her FAQ

Which is better: Burberry Her EDT or EDP?

Again, I prefer the EDT version of this fragrance, even with the weaker performance. I like the pear not, the blackcurrant, and just find it to be a more interesting scent.

Which Burberry Her is best for summer?

Between these two editions it’s the EDT. Other options from the series are: Her Petals and Her London Dream. The latter two may be difficult to find nowadays. Those are the best bets for a warmer weather fragrance, though.

Which Burberry Her perfume should I buy first?

I’d probably try out Her EDT first, if it sounds interesting to you. Her EDP is nice enough, just never wows me. Maybe check out Elixir, as that is a popular option too.

Burberry Goddess vs Her Comparison

Burberry Her has been a very successful line of fragrances for the brand. But, they more recently brought to market their perfume called, Goddess. Being that, these are two of the hottest Burberry fragrances out nowadays, they are obviously going to be compared. Which smells better? Lasts longer? Is the better buy?

Quick Overview

🏆 My Verdict

Burberry Goddess wins on opening, versatility, and overall scent, while Burberry Her wins on projection and longevity.

Buy Goddess if you want the smoother, lighter vanilla fragrance with better versatility, more maturity, and a scent that works for both daytime and nightlife.

Buy Burberry Her if you prefer stronger fruity projection, better lasting power, and a sharper strawberry-forward scent. Overall, Goddess is the better-smelling fragrance, while Her is the better performer.

Category Burberry Goddess Burberry Her Winner
Opening Vanilla, cacao, ginger, and lavender with a lighter, cooler sweetness Strong citrus and berry opening led by strawberry and raspberry with a sharper fruity edge Goddess
Projection Moderate throughout, more intimate scent bubble Starts quite strong with a far reach, then settles to moderate Her
Longevity Around 6.5 hours Usually 7–8 hours Her
Versatility More mature, sexier, works for daytime and nightlife from autumn through early spring More limited, mostly daytime fruity wear from autumn through early spring Goddess
Overall Scent Pleasant vanilla-lavender scent with a smooth, light, easy-to-wear character Fruity fragrance with a BR540-style dry down and stronger berry focus Goddess
Best For Those who want the better-smelling, more versatile option Those who want stronger projection and longer wear

Goddess goes sweet, not sour, and away from the fruitiness. Here you get the vanilla coming through early, along with cacao. But, there is also a ginger note which provides a wonderful freshness, at the start.

It’s a lot lighter and cooler than you might expect from a vanilla-dominant perfume.

Which is better?

I don’t mind the opening fruitiness of Burberry Her, but I do prefer Goddess a bit more in comparison. The ginger is great here, like the vanilla, and there’s enough cacao to keep it balanced.

Edge: Goddess

Projection

Burberry Her starts off actually quite strong. It has a far reach off of the skin and will leave a scent trail in your wake. The next phase, is much more moderate, but this one is no slouch.

Goddess, never hits the same peak as Her. I thought that this might be a stronger perfume than it is, coming into it, but it’s actually pretty moderate throughout.

In fact, much of the wear is a lighter moderate aroma. Not weak, just not screaming for attention.

Edge: Her

Longevity

With Burberry Her, I can get up to 8 hours of wear. Though, it will generally fall in the 7-8 hour range, and sometimes a little less than that.

With Goddess, it’s more like 6.5 hours tops. It doesn’t fall too far below that on the lower end, but it doesn’t have the same level of staying power as does Her.

Edge: Her

Versatility

Seasonally, I don’t think either of these is going to be one to reach for in the summer months. More autumn through early spring, for each of them. Equal on that metric.

Neither is a formal fragrance either. Though, I do think Goddess is a bit more mature, sexier, and can fit into the nightlife as well as daytime. Her, is much more limited in those respects.

Edge: Goddess

Overall Scent

Thus far it’s a pretty even split between these two perfumes. But, which do I ultimately prefer?

It actually is a close race, as I think that both scents are likeable.

With Burberry Her, I do like the fruitiness and it gets its comparisons to Baccarat Rouge 540, for pretty obvious reasons in the dry down. Even though, it is a different enough fragrance in totality.

It’s a slightly better performer than is Goddess. However, I like the way Goddess smells versus what you get with Her.

If you wanted to get both, you might opt for an alternative to Goddess by The Dua Brand, called: The Goddess within Her. It’s more affordable than the designer scent.

The opening act is wonderful. The middle with the vanilla and lavender is also nice. Never overbearing and keeps things light. Sure, the dry down is pretty basic with a whole lot of vanilla and some amber, but Goddess is still pleasant.

It’s not a wide margin, but I’d rather come back to wearing Goddess again, than more rounds with Her EDP.

Winner: Goddess

Who Should Buy Each?

Choose Burberry Goddess if:

You want the better overall scent
You prefer vanilla, cacao, ginger, and lavender over berry-heavy fragrances
You want something more mature and versatile
You need a fragrance that works for both daytime and nightlife
You like lighter, smoother sweetness instead of sharper fruity openings

Choose Burberry Her if:

You want stronger projection and better longevity
You prefer strawberry, raspberry, citrus, and fruity sweetness
You like fragrances with a stronger opening and bigger scent trail
You enjoy that BR540-style dry down comparison
You care more about performance than overall scent quality

Burberry Goddess vs Her FAQ

What does Burberry Goddess smell like?

It a mix of sweet and fresh, especially early on. The vanilla and cacao notes really come into their own, but they do get lightened up by the lavender and that initial ginger kick.

Is Burberry Goddess worth the hype?

I’m not sure how much hype there is behind the fragrance. Is it the best perfume ever? No, but it might be your personal favorite. For me, I think that it’s a very good designer release with performance that’s kind of middle of the pack. I do enjoy the fragrance a lot, overall.

Why is Burberry Her so popular?

Well, this initial release I think got a lot of traction due to its similarities to BR 540, which is a best-selling fragrance. Though, Her is enjoyable in its own right. Plus, Burberry has released a bunch of flanker fragrances from this line which are also good. Thus, the popularity builds.

Powdery Rose and Spice

Fragrance: BURBERRY Brit for Men Eau de Toilette, 1.7 fl. oz

Notes include: wild roses, tonka bean, green mandarin, ginger, nutmeg, cardamom, cedar

Season: autumn, winter, early spring

Quick Verdict: Brit is an easy to wear fresh and spicy floral fragrance with decent staying power and a lovely powdery finish.

Write Up:

Burberry Brit for Men is a super fresh and modern cologne. It has green outdoorsy elements blended with spice and a powdery finish. The invigorating spice is formed by the inclusion of ginger and nutmeg.

So, it isn’t a heavy animalistic kind of spice, but one that is upbeat and refined.

All of the notes in this cologne share the stage, and never seem to overpower one another, for too long. So, while there is a rose note, it remains subdued and adds to the overall composition.

It opens up with its spicier notes with a light mandarin orange note. Ginger, nutmeg, and warm cardamom really provide a great freshness.

As it dries down, you will get more of a ‘green’ outdoorsy aroma with its cedar base, and a smooth powdery smell from the rose and tonka bean combo.

The sillage is in the range of moderate, but towards the light side of things. I get around 8 hours of wear, from this cologne.

Brit smells very good and is best in the colder parts of the year. I love to wear this during the crisp evening nights, when I want to be low key, but can still grab attention when someone is close enough. It is clean and a great blend of spicy elements and powdery floral aromas.

Fragrance Score: 7.9/10  (Read My Full Brit Review)

Pros: Clean, easy to wear, I’ve always gotten around 8 hours of wear with Brit.

Cons: Not the one to go with if you dislike powdery scents.

Masculine Tobacco Woods

london

Fragrance: BURBERRY London for Men Eau de Toilette , 1.7 fl. oz

Notes include: bergamot, cinnamon, pepper, lavender, port wine, mimosa, moss, tobacco leaf, leather

Season: autumn, winter

Quick Verdict: An absolute classic from the brand. London is rich and bold. A fragrance that I personally wore for a long time.

Write Up:

London was my first Burberry cologne and its woody fragrance is probably the most masculine of the lot. Its base notes include mimosa, leather, tobacco, cinnamon leaves, and lavender.

This fragrance is probably best served as an evening wear option because of its sensual appeal. However, I used to daily wear this seasonally, back in college. Just with lighter sprays.

Like Brit, London is a colder weather scent. Although, I prefer to wear this during nights in autumn, versus winter for Brit. If Brit is fresh and green, London is deep and powerful.

While it has that nice spice and tobacco aroma, London still has its sweet side to prevent it from going too far into one-sidedness.

London opens up, at its spiciest, with that tobacco note surrounded by both pepper and cinnamon leaf. It also features a port wine ingredient at the top, to give the scent, an ever so slight booziness.

It can be very dry and earthy at times, with a certain masculine ruggedness. It has its refinement along with a wild undercurrent. The most prominent notes are the tobacco, cinnamon, and leather notes. Great stuff.

London starts off with a strong sillage, but ends up being pretty moderate. The longevity is good and this one is still so enjoyable to me, after all these years.

Also see: Burberry Brit vs London Comparison

Fragrance Score: 8.1/10  (Read: Burberry London Review )

Pros: Great spicy wear for the colder weather.

Cons: Can lean more toward being an evening wear. Some might not like it’s opening intensity.

A Touching Favorite

burberry touch m

Fragrance: BURBERRY Touch for Men Eau de Toilette, 3.3 oz

Notes include: violet leaf, pepper, musk, tonka bean

Season: spring, summer, autumn

Quick Verdict: Touch is clean with hints of spice and a light soap-like aroma, at times. Not too heavy and a gem for daytime.

Write Up:

Sexy and elegant are probably the two best words to describe Burberry Touch. It has a clean aroma highlighted by pepper and violet leaf. It’s sweet yet spicy and also has a creamy/powdery feeling just underneath it all.

The pepper spice, is most pronounced in the opening bit of time, much like in Burberry London.

During the dry down period, tonka bean and musk join up to give Touch a bit more character. It’s almost too simple in how this cologne presents itself and the changes are so subtle at times, that you almost cannot detect a difference.

Touch is a very versatile fragrance that is suitable for a wide variety of occasions and weather conditions. Really underrated stuff. Touch is a clean fragrance and even while being simple, is still unique from so many other colognes out on the market.

The latter stages, really give me a clean soapy/body wash sort of feeling, but more upscale than the average soap.

I cannot even think of one that smells quite like Burberry Touch, even after almost two decades since its release.

The sillage here, isn’t too strong, but the longevity is still quite good. This could easily be a daily wear or signature scent for guys, in the daytime.

Fragrance Score: No Full Review

Pros: Quite different from the rest of the lineup.

Cons: Violet leaf can get on my nerves, sometimes. As such, this one isn’t always one that I wanted to have on.

Cooling Namesake

best burberry cologne

Fragrance: BURBERRY for Men Eau de Toilette, 3.3 fl.oz

Notes include: mint, amber, sandalwood, lavender, cedar

Season: autumn, spring

Quick Verdict: The 1990s namesake fragrance with a crisp woody aroma. Inexpensive and very wearable.

Write Up:

Burberry cologne is the titular house fragrance from this design company. It also happens to be one of my favorite to wear on this list.

Burberry for Men isn’t as in your face as many other colognes on the market, but it allows it’s striking and refined aroma speak for itself.

It features a cool mint note, that provides that familiar fresh spice on top of a smooth sandalwood, and embedded within a warm amber. It is an interesting play between warmth and cold, throughout the wear.

This is all solidified by a smooth trio of sandalwood, lavender, and cedar. This forms the base of Burberry for Men and adds that woody masculine layer.

The mint, cedar, and amber are the stars at the beginning of the wear. The amber is warm, the mint is cold, and you get a dry freshness of the cedar wood. The bergamot citrus note, is lighter than that main trio, but does add a nice extra element into the mix.

Burberry for Men is a great option for a daily wear scent. I picked up another small bottle, some months back, and it’s still got good performance. Plus, you can usually find a full bottle at a discount from the retail price.

This has a more mature character and a moderate sillage. I’ve always felt that I could wear Burberry anywhere and it be an appropriate cologne for that occasion. It’s woody, fresh, and an intriguing fragrance that I always love catching a whiff of.

Also see: Burberry for Men vs Brit Comparison

Fragrance Score: 7.8/10 (My review)

Pros: Enjoyable scent that is woody and cooling, which can serve as an entry level fragrance from the brand.

Cons: Less complex, not the same as more modern colognes on the market

Spiced Beats

Fragrance: BURBERRY The Beat Eau De Toilette for Men, 3.4 Fl. oz.

Notes include: lemon, pepper, cedar, vetiver

Season: year round (not the best on very cold days)

Quick Verdict: A retro fragrance that is discontinued, but well worth a try on the secondary market, if not too expensive.

Write Up:

The Beat is highly fresh and sharp fragrance that is propelled forward by its great pepper note. This is joined by lemon to create quite an interesting pairing.

While simple, The Beat evolves, and eventually reveals a woody base that is dotted by violet, to add a floral element.

This is probably the most unique of the colognes featured on this list. While not overpowering, it has a solid sillage and longevity, and can fit in well as an everyday wear.

The Beat is dry and outdoorsy with that juicy lemon to give it a sharp clean balance. The pepper spice at the beginning can be pretty intense at times, but the dry down with the cool vetiver is a nice change of pace.

At times, in the middle of the wear, it can be sweeter rather than spicy. Then, when the vetiver and cedar fully kick in, it is a fresh and dry woodsy type of smell. The Beat is a good choice for casual daily wear, for most of the year.

It’s not really a nightlife scent at all, just a nice and rather simple sort of fragrance. It’s opening is pretty strong, but it does calm itself down, and has a decent but not amazing longevity.

Fragrance Score: No Full Review

Pros: A slightly sweet gem, that was not too complicated but had a awesome aroma.

Cons: Discontinued.

The Best Mr. Burberry

Fragrance: Mr Burberry Indigo

Notes include: blackcurrant, violet leaf, spearmint, lemon, sage, rosemary, white musk, oak moss, amber, driftwood

Season: spring, summer

Quick Verdict: A forgotten cologne that shined among a rather dull line of flankers.

Write Up:

The Mr. Burberry series was pretty much a complete miss for me, until I tried Indigo. The EDP version of Mr. Burberry smelled really good but the performance was terrible.

This series is no longer being produced, but this was the highlight.

Indigo doesn’t have insane performance, but it lasts much better on my skin with a still moderate sillage. It’s sort of got a combination between the aroma of the others in the series, mixed with Acqua di Gio, and a few other colognes.

It’s fresh, herbal, somewhat aquatic with an amber base. It opens up with the citrus coming through, that is paired with mostly the mint and rosemary notes. Then, sage will take over for the rosemary. Green while being juicy with the top fruits.

It’s not my favorite release from Burberry, but Mr Burberry Indigo was probably their best men’s release of that five year stretch.

Fragrance Score: 7.5/10  (My Full Review)

Pros: Minty and herbal scent with an Acqua di Gio style.

Cons: Performance was okay, not great. Discontinued.

A New Hero

Fragrance: Hero EDT by Burberry

Notes include: cedar, bergamot, juniper, black pepper

Season: Anytime outside of high summer or depths of winter.

Quick Verdict: After a ton of flanker releases on this formula, Hero EDT still has a likeable and more wearable quality versus its more concentrated followers.

Write Up:

The EDP version is also pretty interesting, with some nice smoky touches. It’s almost a toss up for me at times, between these two, but I’ll go with Hero EDT. The more time I spent with each, the more I preferred EDT.

I still need to grab some of this Burberry release for additional testing. But, from my experience with it thus far, it’s a very nice release from the brand.

Update: I bought a travel size and it is very likeable and super versatile, as a daily wear. It’s one of their best releases in 5+ years.

It’s fresh and woody, but not completely overpowering with the cedar note. Gives you a simple clean, that can be worn almost anytime. The bergamot citrus top, hangs around underneath the cedar for a long while, and gives Hero a spectacular brightness.

Juniper and some pepper spice come through for an aromatic finish. The pepper is noticeable at first, but fades rather quickly. Performance is a bit above average, not spectacular.

Here’s an ‘inspired by’ cheaper alternative from The Dua Brand: Lionheart

Fragrance Score: 7.8/10 (Hero EDT Review)

Pros: Smells nice, versatile.

Cons: Not super complex or high performing

The Next Best Hero

Fragrance: Hero Parfum by Burberry

Notes include: cedar, amyris, cypriol oil

Season: autumn, winter

Quick Verdict: Long lasting edition of Hero with a focus on the cedar note and it brings an earthiness to the formula.

Write Up:

Updating here, I still like the EDT the best so far from the Burberry Hero line. However, I like the newer Parfum more than the EDP, and it deserves a spot on the list.

Update 2: I also like this version better than Parfum Intense.

Some of you, may prefer this. Up top it’s earthy, woody, and balsamic. This is a very cedar heavy fragrance with a dry feeling throughout the wear. Fresh with spices and even some moments where you get a bit of a powder coming through.

Not a super powerful fragrance, but it gets the job done with its projection. Beyond that, Hero Parfum also lasted over ten hours on my skin, when I’ve tested it out.

There haven’t been too many releases from Burberry as of late, but this is a good one. Just not for everybody.

Fragrance Score: No Full Review   (Comparison: Hero EDP vs. Parfum)

Pros: Fresh, earthy and a bit powdery versus just being a straight cedarwood bomb.

Cons: Not as mass appealing as EDT.

Burberry Men’s Fragrance FAQ

What is the best Burberry cologne for men?

Personally, I think London is the top pick, from the older releases. Nowadays, they’re focusing on Hero as a series. I’d go with Hero EDT, maybe Parfum (but the new 2026 Elixir looks very interesting).

How long does Burberry Brit last?

I’ve always gotten around 8 hours of wear with Brit for Men. It’s not super noticeable at that stage, but it still is hanging around as a skin scent.

Which Burberry cologne is best for winter/summer/office/date night?

Tougher to say, now that their lineup of men’s fragrances is basically just the Hero line. For winter, I’d go London or Hero Parfum. Summer: Mr. Burberry Indigo or The Beat (if you can find them). Office: Hero EDT or Brit. Date Night: One of the Hero fragrances or London.

What does Burberry Hero smell like?

Different releases under this title have different scents. Cedar is the central theme of the series. EDT is lighter and has some citrus to help its mass appeal. While later entries go even drier with the woods or start to introduce leather. Heavier, more niche appeal.

Is Burberry a luxury fragrance brand?

Burberry has luxury offerings with its unisex releases. Scents like the new Hero Elixir are more expensive with a heavier concentration and a style that’s more like a niche fragrance. While there are older scents like London, Brit, and Burberry for men that are much more affordable. Lineups change and some scents get discontinued or even re-released.

Hero EDP by Burberry

Hero is the newer series of fragrances from Burberry, who finally seem to be moving on from the Mr. Burberry line. Hero Eau de Parfum is the 2022 release, which continues with Adam Driver as the face of the campaign.

I recently picked up a sample of this fragrance to test it out for the site. How does it smell? Does it last long? Is Hero EDP worth a try?

Burberry Hero EDP Overview

Notes include: pine needles, cedar, incense, benzoin, amber, olibanum

Click here to try: Burberry Hero EDP from Macy’s

My Full Review

Here’s how Burberry describes it: Burberry Hero Eau de Parfum explores an enticing new side of heroism: the courage to embrace who you truly are. It presents a man on a journey to self-discovery. An explorative spirit with a centred sensibility. His energy exudes tender soulfulness, expressed by the presence of the horse, a powerful creature that represents our hero’s strength.

The opening of Hero EDP is fresh, a bit smoky, and surprisingly has a sweetness to it. It stems from the olibanum, which can give off a level of fruitiness to the aroma.

It’s not clearly fruity, but the opening reminds me of being related to both 1 Million and Ultra Male. Different from each, but I get a similar vibe, as it is a sweet/spicy start.

The benzoin gives Hero EDP a fuzzy kind of resinous aroma, but the cologne will transition into being more of a straightforward amber, as the benzoin and olibanum fade. Particularly, the latter, and with it that fruity-like scent. The benzoin does stick around, just not as pronounced.

Ultimately, this is a woody amber fragrance. Pine needless are the dominant woody note, during the opening and into the heart. But, there is heavy cedar that will take control for the rest of the wear.

It will finish as a blend of different cedar types, amber, with some remaining smokiness and touch of spice. It’s dark, warm, outdoorsy, but not all that complicated.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

The sillage here, starts off towards the upper end of what could be consider moderate, but relatively quickly becomes a lighter scent. You’ll get maybe an hour or so of solid, scent trail generating projection, but it’ll come in much closer to the skin.

The longevity here, is probably its greatest positive. This one goes for at least 8 hours on my skin and can get up to around 9.5.

Is that insane longevity? No, but still great for a mainstream designer release. The Hero line has done a great job with creating long-lasting scents.

Seasonally, it’s an autumn and winter release. It can be somewhat cloying and would probably turn pretty bad in the high heat and humidity. But, in the cold air, Hero EDP is likeable.

Hero EDP skews towards being more of a nightlife or casual type of scent. It might be a good option for younger guys in their 20s. Not a formal or super serious cologne. Very much a modern mainstream release, with a bumped up dose of wood.

It’s attractive and not grating, some might consider this to have a sexy quality. Like Hero EDT, this edition is a crowd pleaser and easy to wear.

Overall Impressions of Hero EDP

Overall, do I like this scent? It’s okay. It has a somewhat different style from many other scents on the market, which I appreciate. But, it’s still nothing special.

I do prefer the EDT release to this, even if I’ve only encountered that once thus far. It was just better and they’re actually different from one another.

Update: EDT and Parfum are both more enjoyable than this, in my opinion. EDT if you want more of a crowd pleaser. I’ve worn that some more and confirmed that I do like it more than this one. Parfum, if you want something earthy with a big dose of cedar. More unique.

This one doesn’t jump out to me all that much. I like the dry down, with the cedar woods and the amber. It’s not as sweet, at that point, but I kind of prefer that with the particular formula. Yet, there’s nothing here that makes me want to run out and buy a bottle.

The performance is quite good. Not overpowering with the strength or the scent trail that it leaves behind you, but the time you get to spend with it does lend this Burberry fragrance further value, than it otherwise might.

Personally, I have no intentions of getting a full size bottle. It might be worth waiting for, once it hits the discounters, instead of paying retail price. All in all, this is an above average release, just never hits the level of greatness.

D&G Devotion vs Burberry Goddess

Devotion from D&G is their latest hit series of fragrances that will probably be expanded upon many times in the coming years. The EDP often gets compared to the original Goddess EDP from Burberry.

While both of these scents have already spun off newer versions of their original formulas, I wanted to compare both of these first editions, as they are still the most popular. Which smells better? Lasts longer? Which should you buy Goddess or Devotion?

Opening

After first spraying of Devotion EDP, lemon dominates but it settles into a more balanced supporting role as we move forward.

Orange blossom provides the floral element, while there’s also what seems like a distinct orange note. To me, it’s more like fresh zest or peel.

The top is bright with a touch of spice and carries a slightly juicy feel, though the lemon leans more toward having that candied, synthetic quality.

This Dolce & Gabbana fragrance is essentially a straightforward sweet gourmand, but it does evolve through distinct stages.

The next phase brings together lemon cake vibes with the orange blossom. The spice notes retreat as vanilla starts making its presence known.

Goddess leans into its sweetness rather than tartness, leaving the fruity notes behind. Vanilla shows up early alongside cacao, but ginger brings this nice fresh lift right from the opening.

Even though vanilla leads the way, the fragrance feels surprisingly light and cool compared to what you’d normally expect from vanilla-heavy perfumes.

Which is better?

It’s a close call, but I think I’ll go with the D&G scent. The lemon, spice, and how it ultimately moves into its lemon cake phase is just a tad more interesting to me. Sugary? Sure, but Devotion is very likeable.

Edge: Devotion

Projection

Neither of these is a massive projector nor a super heavy fragrance. Devotion is substantial and has a good reach. It doesn’t bog you down, even though it is a gourmand scent. There is a freshness underneath that prevents it from being a thick cloud.

I’d say that the D&G perfume is on the upper end of what could be considered moderate, if not crossing over into ‘strong’ territory. Not a beast, but very solid.

With Goddess, it’s also a moderate, but a step down from what I get with Devotion eau de parfum. The first few hours are good, still more of an intimate scent bubble, and then devolves into a skin scent.

Pretty good, but Devotion easily takes this category.

Edge: Devotion

Longevity

With Goddess, I’ve only been able to ever get somewhere in the 6-7 hour range, while wearing it. Not great, but fairly decent.

Does Devotion outdo the Burberry? Yep. I can get around 9 hours of wear from the Dolce & Gabbana fragrance. It’s also nothing too crazy, but does the job well for the needs of most people.

Edge: Devotion

Versatility

Seasonally, both of these are autumn through springtime wears. If it’s too warm out, I’d probably opt for something else. Outside of that however, these will work quite well.

Neither goes too heavy and maintain a lightness that can move beyond just a standard winter gourmand fragrance.

Neither of them are a formal perfume either. They’re mainly going to fit into more of a daytime wear role, casual, and maybe some nightlife. I think either could be a potential signature scent, most like for a younger woman, or those who love the sweeter fragrances.

Not much of a difference here, as they really do overlap in terms of use case.

Edge: Push

Overall Scent

Overall, which of these two perfumes do I actually prefer more?

With Burberry Goddess, it’s a very pleasant mainstream fragrance. Nothing too bold or unique about it, but I like the use of vanilla and that light easy to wear feeling that I get while wearing it.

I never have thought that the name Goddess actually fit with what the scent actually is, but it’s a nice fragrance overall.

However, I like Devotion by D&G more than the Burberry option.

It’s not a massive preference for me, but I lean more towards Devotion being the better perfume. It does have better performance, so, that is another notch on its belt.

Devotion EDP isn’t as reliant on its vanilla notes and I think that the lemony baked goods and spice is just more interesting and smells a bit better, in my opinion.

You actually might prefer Devotion Intense versus either of these (I do). It’s not way ahead of either of these but the sugary citrus doesn’t have the same grip over the formula as it does in the EDP version.
