Mr. Burberry EDP by Burberry

When I purchased my bottle of Versace Eros Flame, I received a dual sample pack of Mr. Burberry, both the EDT and EDP versions. I’ve already reviewed the eau de toilette edition on this site and was never too enthusiastic about wearing it. So, I was curious to see if the EDP would be any better or if it was another dud.

In this post, I want to cover how this version of Mr. Burberry smells, how it projects, how long it lasts, and whether or not it is actually worth a try.

What does Mr. Burberry EDP Smell Like?

My Full Wear Review

The EDP version of Mr. Burberry starts off led by the group of spicy notes in there, mainly the mint. The cool and fresh mint note is the most prominent at the start, but is joined by the warmer spices in there.

There is cinnamon, patchouli, nutmeg, and cardamom…so this one is a whole lot of spice upfront. Honestly, I think the opening is the worst part, and sort of a mess of competing notes all demanding attention.

A few minutes in and things settle down a bit. At this point, it is mainly the mint, patchouli, and cardamom. The patchouli gives Mr. Burberry a dirty/earthy warmth and spice profile and the whole thing smells kind of familiar to my nose.

The first time I sprayed this fragrance on my skin, I was wholly unimpressed by it, at this point. However, it really began to turn itself around, and suddenly the aroma was absolutely great. I went from meh to loving the way it smelled, once it entered its dry down period.

What changes? The spice backs off and Mr. Burberry EDP becomes very fresh and woody to boot. Mint and cardamom are the top dogs, but grapefruit and amber, provide a bright cleanliness that the EDT had but better.

Plus, the cardamom has a little bit of a lemon tinge with the fresh spice. I really do start to enjoy the mint and grapefruit, with how they play off of the other notes in the mix.

There is lavender and woods with an herbal undertone, which is light and masculine, and plays nicely off of the top. Mr. Burberry EDP has much more personality and complexity than the original does. One problem remains with it.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

Projection wise, the sillage on this stuff is kind of moderate at first, and turns really light within a couple of hours. Like, skin scent level. This cologne will just not allow me to like it. It finally gets on a roll, in terms of the aroma, and then just weakness.

I don’t know. It seems that all of the Mr. Burberry fragrances have this issue to some extent. Indigo wasn’t as bad, but the EDT and EDP just aren’t good.

Also, the longevity at the skin scent level, is terrible. I’ve tried it multiple times, with heavy sprays, and can only muster 4 hours of wear total.

It just won’t go any further, which is terrible, because if the whole thing was like the dry down and powerful; then this would have a place on my shelf almost certainly.

I can’t believe the performance that I’ve gotten from this and the original.

Seasonally, the EDP would do best in the cold weather through the springtime. It’s not a super powerful smell, so it wouldn’t melt in a bit of heat. It would be good for casual or office wear, mostly.

It is attractive and has a really clean feel to it. You could wear it for evening wear or dates, but that wouldn’t be the main use. Honestly, any man in any age demographic could wear this. It is versatile in its applications, even if the performance cannot keep pace.

Overall Impressions of Mr. Burberry EDP

Overall, do I like Mr. Burberry EDP? I like half of it. The beginning isn’t great and the performance stinks. If it had any ability to perform, I would just ignore that spicy start, and wear it anyway. The problem of course is that it doesn’t perform nor have much sillage.

I encountered this same thing with the EDT, so, I figured that a more concentrate eau de parfum, might do better. It doesn’t, so I can’t really recommend Mr. Burberry EDP. After that start, the smell is really great. This one just can’t get its act together.

Maybe an hour or two of really enjoyable wear. To me, that’s just not worthwhile, even at this price point which isn’t insanely high.

Goddess EDP by Burberry

Goddess is one of the newer releases from Burberry, that came out in 2023. It wasn’t a perfume that I had heard much about going into testing, but I bought a sample anyway to check it out. How does this one smell? Does it last long? Is it worth a try?

What does Goddess EDP Smell Like?

My Full Review

Here’s how Burberry describes it: Burberry Goddess is a unique gourmand fragrance led by a confident and powerful multi-faceted trio of vanillas. Enriched with a luminous lavender top note, the scent exudes a rich, layered personality that’s instantly memorable.

So, upon spraying this one I’m immediately hit with a wonderful gourmand aroma. Fresh and not overbearingly heavy, however. The ginger does a nice job at breaking up the vanilla dominance.

Ginger and a cacao note add a great mix to the aroma early. Goddess feels cold with a lightness that I enjoy. I’ve seen this get compared to Mon Guerlain, but they’re are not the same, while having a similar style.

I mean, in the dry down, both are all about that lavender and vanilla. Still, smell differently. But, this one  also doesn’t have jasmine, tonka bean, or patchouli. Cacao and tonka bean, play a similar role…but aren’t exactly the same and don’t have the same aroma.

The lavender also begins to show itself early on. It’s really tamed by all of the vanilla. I was worried that this might take a Libre path, with the lavender, but the note is balanced quite well in Goddess.

It’s interesting that there are three types of vanilla in this perfume. Can I tell them apart? I mean, not really. The ginger burns off and the middle is more about the lavender and vanilla pairing.

The very tail end of the perfume is a vanilla-centric scent. Though, it feels like a standard creamy vanilla note. So, I’m not getting any real distinction between the types.

Burberry Goddess isn’t very complicated and there isn’t really any development here, after this point.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

Goddess is not a massive projector or one that is super heavy. You’ll get an intimate scent bubble for most of the wear a decent radius of reach in the early goings.

It’s not weak, solidly moderate, until the last few hours of wear when it becomes a skin scent.

The longevity is somewhere in the range of average. For me, it was 6-6.5 hours of total wear from this Burberry. It’s okay, not great.

On clothing, you will get 3+ more hours, but it doesn’t seem to want to stick to skin. My skin, isn’t the type that ‘eats up’ fragrances either. I routinely get 10+ hours from other scents.

Seasonally, I do think that this fragrance isn’t too heavy or cloying, that it gets stuck solely in the autumn or winter. On a moderately warm spring day, I think that Goddess would hold up just fine.

I would skip out on wearing this in the heat, though.

It’s strength is with its versatility. It isn’t hyper sweet or too bold, so, it’s safe for most occasions. It’s attractive enough for the nightlife, even if you might want to go with something more dynamic.

It’s attractive and somewhat sexy, so, you could spray it before a date as well. Goddess isn’t the most formal fragrance, maybe have something else for really ‘dressy’ situations.

It also works for a wide age range. Not too mature for the younger set, but not too juvenile for older women either.

Overall Impressions of Goddess EDP

Overall, do I like Goddess by Burberry? I do like it. It’s not anything that’s crazy unique or complicated, but it is a mainstream perfume that is going to do well and have plenty of fans.

The name doesn’t really fit, what the actual scent is. You might expect something bolder, sexier, etc. Not to say this is a bad perfume, it certainly isn’t.

I like the opening and how it keeps things fresh and light. Not a heavy or overbearing use of the vanilla and lavender, just quite pleasant to spray on.

It’s not a great performer, though. For me, it’s okay, pretty standard issue. On skin, it’s probably not going to go past six hours for most people.

But, if that’s not too much of a problem for you, Goddess is worth trying out. Maybe test it in store or wait for the price to hit discount levels, over the next year or so.

If you’re not a vanilla and/or lavender fan, I don’t think there’s anything here that would change your mind. As such, you can also probably skip this initial Goddess release.

Brit Rhythm Intense for Him by Burberry

Still working my way through doing reviews on the latest batch of samples, that I got. Today’s entry is from a mini bottle that I purchased, Brit Rhythm Intense by Burberry. I am a big fan of the original Burberry Brit, which spawned Rhythm, which spawned this. Even though, these don’t really have anything in common with the original. How does this smell? Is the performance any good? Is it worth a try?

What does Brit Rhythm Intense Smell Like?

Notes include: leather, sage, raspberry, pepper, peppermint, wormwood, amber, tonka bean, cashmere, and more

My Full Wear Review

Brit Rhythm Intense lives up to its name with a bold and spicy opening. There’s a whole lot going on in there, but I can pick out: peppermint, pepper, sage, and basil; driving the opening minutes.

With that, is the ever-present but strengthening leather note, along with some fruity sweetness provided by raspberry and fig.

So, it’s a fresh spice blast, over top of leather with some sweetness added in. After, 10-15 minutes, much of the top layer spice has faded away and leather fully ascends.

When the leather comes in, it’s fresh and the spices feel like a dash of herbal flair.

Further along, the nature of Rhythm Intense changes quite a lot. It’s so much smoother and less spicy. Leather is the mainstay, but you also get: amber, tonka bean, vanilla, and wood. With that, comes more sweetness.

The dry down versus the opening is a stark difference. Yes, there are elements which weave their way through both, but this cologne develops almost a new identity.

Finally, the last stages are pretty much the leather and tonka bean, on my skin. Vanilla obviously blends closely with the tonka bean and there is some residual spice present, as well. This all sits on a mixed woody base.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

Brit Rhythm Intense is very powerful during that initial phase. Man, do those spices hit hard, and will totally fill up a room if over-sprayed. Now, later on, it is much softer but for and 1 hour or so…it’s a beast.

That initial hour, really pulls up the sillage rating a lot. Thereafter, it’s probably more mid-range for 3-4 hours, before it truly gets soft.

Longevity is really great. This lasts all day on my skin. I don’t know the exact number of hours, but it’s over 10. This is absolutely a performer.

I was honestly shocked that Brit Rhythm Intense actually had such a long wear. After all, the ‘Intense’ moniker, doesn’t always translate to true projection and staying power with some fragrances.

Seasonally, mostly for the colder months, but it’s still good on a temperate day. I’d stay away in the summer, but otherwise, you should be okay with wearing it.

It does have some nice versatility. If you go light, you can wear it to the office. It can also, go for a night on the town, casually, or for romantic wear. It’s got that fresh and masculine aroma, that seems to attract folks.

Overall Impression of Brit Rhythm Intense

Do I like this cologne? Personally, it’s okay, but not really my thing. I do appreciate the performance that this Burberry displays, but I’m not too keen on that opening act.

There’s so much going on, in the first hour. It’s really intense and feels muddled to me. I know other people love this fragrance, but I probably won’t be wearing it any longer. The original Brit, is still better, in my opinion.

That being said, other guys could really enjoy something like this. It’s fairly affordable and you get great performance from Rhythm Intense. If you dig the smell, it’s a worthwhile buy. I don’t hate it, just not something that gets me excited to wear.

2023 Update: This one is discontinued now. You’ll pretty much have to buy it from discounters, if you want Intense. Bottles that I am seeing are somewhere in the $50-60 range. Not too much of a stretch to try out. Again, still not one that’s all that amazing, but a decent value proposition on these last bottles.

Brit Rhythm for Her by Burberry

One of the remaining samples that I got in my last batch was a ladies’ perfume from Burberry, Brit Rhythm for Her. As such, I decided to give it a try and report back my testing results in the form of a product review. This one was released in 2014.

I recently review Burberry Body also and have done a list of the top Burberry fragrances for women.  Does Brit Rhythm deserve a spot on the list? In this post, I want to explore what this perfume smells like, how it performs, and if I think it is worth a purchase.

Brit Rhythm for Her Overview

Notes include: lavender, pink pepper, musk, vetiver, orris, blackberry leaf, woods, neroli

Full Review

My opening impression of Brit Rhythm is how much it strikes me as soapy or like a detergent type of smell. It is fresh and clean with some woods and spice thrown in. There is a bit of sharpness to it, which I guess is coming from the neroli and black berry.

The lavender note seems to be the dominating force behind this fragrance, which gives it the usual smoothness and it is joined by musk for that warm spiciness. I also detect the pink pepper note and some type of wood lurking in the background.

This is kind of an odd scent to me, it is very linear in its scent but the aroma is kind of tough to explain. In the end, though, I just keep getting more and more lavender and I don’t particularly like it. The orris isn’t super noticeable to me, but I think it is boosting the lavender, a lot.

It’s sort of spicy at first from pink pepper and neroli. The soapiness is the lavender and neroli and musk. But, other than that, there isn’t too much going on with Brit Rhythm. Most of the notes just blend into one another, without much distinction or development.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

Projection wise, Brit Rhythm for her is pretty moderate. I’d say it’s safe to wear to work or school without any problems. Anywhere from a 3 to 6 foot radius of fragrance, around the wearer. Not huge, but it hits the mark for what type of perfume this is.

It also does have really good longevity, like, all day in fact. It’ll last somewhere in the 8-10 hour range, not as a powerhouse, but it’ll be noticeable. At the right price, this Burberry does provide some value.

It is a very casual to semi-formal fragrance. I wouldn’t call it sexy by any means, so you might want to consider something else for romantic wear.

It’d work best during the cooler months of the year. It can venture into springtime, but I’d avoid when it starts to get hot outside. Basically, autumn through mid to late spring.

The versatility and longevity are there. If you enjoy the scent itself, you can at least get good value out of Brit Rhythm.

Overall Impressions of Brit Rhythm for Her

Overall, is Brit Rhythm worth a buy? To me, not unless you have a thing for lavender and musk. Otherwise, it’s pretty uneventful, and not that great of a scent. It performs well but I am almost completely indifferent towards the fragrance itself.

If you need a basic daily wear, like lavender, and can get it for cheap…it’s not terrible. Paying full price? Nope. At $30-40? Sure, it might be worth a shot.

From the women’s line of Burberry, I like these a lot more: London, Brit, or one of the Burberry Her scents. Those all have a more interesting wear and similar performance for the most part.

Rhythm doesn’t fail miserably at anything, it just isn’t a perfume that is very memorable. Nothing about it sticks out as a highlight.

London for Women by Burberry

Burberry is a fragrance line that I roll pretty heavy with during the fall and winter months. Their men’s colognes, namely: Brit, Burberry for Men, and London are pretty fantastic when the weather cools down.

The men’s version of London is a sweet tobacco and woodsy scent that even some women like to wear. As such, I was curious as to how the 2006 ladies perfume version of London would stack up and if there were any similarities.

Well, the two are wholly different in their contents and characters and this perfume is definitely a much more feminine type of scent. In this post, I want to overview how it smells, how London performs, when it should be worn, how it compares to other Burberry offerings, and whether or not it is worth a purchase.

London for Women by Burberry Overview

Notes include: rose, jasmine, peony, tangerine, honeysuckle, musk, sandalwood, Tahitian flower

My Full Wear Review

My first impression of London was how dominant of a floral perfume it was. I immediately get the rose and honeysuckle notes as the main force of the opening. Rose can be hit or miss for me, I like it in something such as Declaration d’un Soir for men but find it kind of overwhelming in Bond No 9’s perfume, Broadway Nite.

In London, I feel that the rose note is just right and actually kind of pleasant. Accompanying the floral notes is tangerine, which supplies a juicy citrus element to this fragrance that I think gives it an extra bit of mystique.

The citrus sweetness of the tangerine stays with the scent in a support role, but the main attraction, is the array of floral notes. This goes on to include jasmine and peony, as the perfume develops.

On my skin, the tiare flower isn’t very distinct at all. It’s kind of just stuck in the morass of all the other floral notes.

The jasmine note becomes particularly noticeable to me after 10-15 minutes or so. To me, it seems that the jasmine starts to overtake the rose and provides London with a very fresh type of aroma. It’s all slightly powdery and almost a green/herbal scent in the undertones.

Don’t get me wrong, this is a floral scent all the way but there is a warm musky spice and earthy sandalwood note giving London more body.

During the dry down, I do start to smell the honeysuckle stronger, than I previously had been. It pairs nicely with the jasmine, to create a white floral bouquet.

The tangerine is light and flanking it all, with a bit of musk, on top of a sandalwood base. It’s wonderful and clean, the rose and peony, begin to fall by the wayside to my nose.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

Projection wise, this is a very well performing scent. It isn’t really ‘heavy’ but it can be loud. A few sprays should be enough for anybody.

I was really surprised at the sillage and the scent trail that London is capable of leaving behind. Especially, in that first hour or so. London projects itself pretty far for such a mainstream scent. Burberry giving some good value with this one.

Longevity on this perfume is absolutely fantastic, just not elite. It is a great casual, all-day type of wear, that doesn’t quit after a few hours. 8+ hours should be achieved with almost every wear and most likely more than that.

I’d say that it can maybe just squeak out 10, on the right day. More likely, 8 or 9-ish, with most normal wears.

I like this as an autumn/winter perfume. Spring, would also be fine in most places. It might work decently in the summer, but the heat could tear it apart pretty good. It surprising, based on the notes, but I’m not feeling it in the heat. The jasmine starts to really stick out, on the warmest of days, which can be somewhat annoying.

London is an excellent choice for a versatile daily wear perfume. This can be a casual fragrance, be worn at the office, and smells attractive enough for a date later in the evening. Though, it’s not what you’d typically classify as an nighttime scent.

Overall Impressions of London

Overall, is London worth a buy? I’d say yes, if florals are your type of fragrance. Particularly, jasmine heavy floral perfumes, as that is the headliner here. The citrus note balances it out greatly, in my opinion, though.

I like this somewhat better than Burberry Body (which was pretty good: see the comparison) and way better than the completely bland Brit Rhythm. The tangerine in London is nicer than the peach in Body.

That initial citrus is great. The floral notes mostly all have their own time to shine, in the mix, so you’ll get plenty of different notes to experience here. Burberry London doesn’t seem to have any weaknesses, which is why it’s stuck around for as long as it has.

London is a classy and delicious scent for ladies who like to dress the part. It performs well, smells great, and is suitable as an everyday wear.
