Burberry for Men by Burberry

Burberry is a highly popular British design house which includes on its roster of fragrances, many top sellers in both the male and female markets. While the company offers mass-market designer scents, most of their products retain a sense of elegance and refinement, for which the brand is known for.

In this post, I want to take a closer look at the company’s namesake cologne, Burberry for Men eau de toilette, and examine whether or not it delivers value for the average guy seeking a great cologne. Check out my Best Burberry Colognes post!

My Full Review

Burberry for Men is casual cologne for the gentleman. This fragrance is not loud or obnoxious, rather, it exudes a refined subtlety that is perfect for everyday wear.

This flagship cologne from Burberry has a spicy and woodsy scent to it, like Burberry London, but it offers up smoother citrusy note (bergamot) which really sets the two apart (another smooth Burberry choice is Brit).

The opening is fresh with a mint/cedar/amber blend that is fine mix of a cool spice with warmth provided by the amber. It is quite attractive in how understated yet utterly alluring it can be. Also, that bergamot note is there to play off of the mint in a light pseudo-mojito vibe.

The spice on this one is also understated, especially as Burberry for Men begins to dry down, at that point it begins to take on the woodsy or earthy notes and settles into a fragrance with a lot of masculine charm. There lots of cedar and sandalwood, with lavender calming things.

This newer bottle that I purchased in 2018, is quite dry and smooth, after about an hour or so. There are herbal/floral elements dancing around in the background, but I mostly get the mint, cedar, lavender, and sandalwood, as the main core of it.

Sillage and Longevity

I would say that it probably rates as slightly above average in terms of its how long it lasts on the skin, it will last a full workday, won’t quit early but don’t expect it to pull overtime either. 7-8 hours seems about right, on my skin.

Projection wise it is a pretty moderate fragrance. It doesn’t take over but it gets the job done quite well.  (Also see: Burberry for Men vs Burberry Brit Comparison)

Versatility

Seasonally, I find that it can work year round, for the most part. I usually avoid wearing it in the high heat of summer, but I might if it is a more moderate day. Mostly, I like it in autumn through springtime, but don’t wear it too often in winter, as I have so many other options for that period of time.

Update: I’ve gone through my entire bottle and I mostly used Burberry for Men in the first half of autumn and then some in spring.

What I really enjoy about this fragrance is its smoothness. There are too many colognes that can be way too harsh and take over any room a man steps into.

Burberry, is like a good utility player, it is versatile to wear to both work and out for a night on the town and is wholly pleasant, even if it isn’t necessarily a in your face standout.

I’ve worn Burberry for Men on dates and it felt like it was in the right place. I could wear it casually or when close to a woman, that’s what makes this such a solid addition to any man’s collection.

Though, I will say that this will mostly be something that younger guys go for. This Burberry fragrance is a good one for high school and college aged guys, while not feeling completely cheap or being relegated to just that demographic.

Overall Impressions of Burberry for Men

All in all, Burberry for men is a fresh and smooth everyday scent, that won’t jump out as something wholly unique or spectacularly in your face. It is a fragrance which stays in the background of one’s life and earns its keep by adding a bit of class to it.

The more I’ve worn Burberry for Men, the more that I’ve come to appreciate it. It seems to alternate with Brit and London as my favorite scent to wear from this brand. Though, I’d put it as my third choice, as of late.

It all kind of depends on my mood that day, as they all seem to fit in just fine during the fall and winter months. You can usually find a bottle at a good price nowadays and I’m using the little 1.7 oz one that I bought, on a regular basis. Still dig it.

It’s unique, stylish, and different from most of the offerings that have come out in the last decade. Burberry for Men doesn’t feel dated at all. It’s a nice value play and one that I can return to time and time again.

Ariana Grande Cloud vs. Burberry Her EDP

Cloud is a massively successful fragrance. In part, due to its similarities with Baccarat Rouge 540, another hugely popular scent. Burberry Her, is related to both, with its scent structure…as such there’s a whole lot of comparisons going on. In this post, I want to compare the Ariana Grande and Burberry perfumes, and declare an ultimate winner between them.

Opening

Burberry Her EDP opens up with a blast of its citrus and berry notes. It’s very fruity up top. Strawberry is the strongest note of the lot, with some additional raspberry and the sharpness of the citrus notes.

It’s pretty sharp and sour versus being sugary sweet or anything. The floral notes aren’t all that strong, but there is a decent amount of jasmine at times. Quite different from Cloud, at the start, but it does get closer to the Ariana Grande perfume later on.

Cloud, on the other hand, begins with lavender and pear being the main attraction. There is a light bergamot citrus in there, but mostly that crisp pear. Not a big fruity vibe going on, in totality. With Cloud, there is a creamier/muskier influence from the base.

Which is better? I prefer Cloud’s opening act versus Her. I actually do really enjoy that fruity start from the Burberry, but it always seems to grate on my nerves, after a while.

I’m not crazy about Cloud. It’s not as dynamic, but it’s simplicity works.

Edge: Cloud

Projection

It’s a tougher call in how strong each is. I think that Her starts out with a better sillage, then turns moderate, but is softer for much of the wear. To me, it has a higher peak versus Cloud.

Cloud is pretty strong as well, but for most of the wear is quite moderate, projecting a few feet from the skin.

I’ll give Cloud the edge here, since it is more consistent for the duration.

Edge: Cloud

Longevity

With Cloud, I can get up to around 6 hours of wear, on the skin. For me, it doesn’t have amazing performance, but it is good enough for most purposes.

Burberry Her can last up to 8 hours. It doesn’t have huge sillage, but this EDP does stick around for a long while, and outdoes the Ariana Grande scent.

Edge: Burberry

Versatility

Seasonally, Her is better in the heat, while Cloud can work better in the cold of winter. Though, neither is exclusively stuck there. It’s kind of a wash.

Neither is a formal fragrance. Both skew younger, but not exclusively for teenagers. Still, each is more of a casual daily wear, that can sometimes be worn into the evening depending on the situation.

I really don’t see much difference here. There is plenty of overlap, also.

Edge: Push

Overall Scent

This is actually a really tight race between this two fragrances. Personally, I’m not a super fan of either, but do enjoy aspects of each.

The fruits in the opening of Her, have drawn me into a love/hate relationship with them. I love citrus and strawberry, which gives the Burberry a different dynamic than some of the other Baccarat Rouge comparasion scents and close replicas. But, it also gets annoying to me.

With Cloud, the opening isn’t very exciting, but it works well. I do like the coconut, praline, and muskiness in this perfume. Not a complete love, though, I think its a solid fragrance overall.

Which is better? I lean more toward Cloud. Overall, it’s a bit more enjoyable. The performance is about equal. Plus, it can usually be found for cheaper when compared to Her’s prices.

If you really like the berry/cherry/citrus idea, you might prefer Burberry Her. They do end up smelling pretty close to one another. Musky and woody in the base, with a general sweetness about them.

Not a massive difference, but Cloud gets the nod.

Winner: Cloud

Burberry Her by Burberry

Burberry Her is a line that Burberry has seemed to want to develop further over the past few years, ever since this one was released in 2018. They’re still coming out with flankers, so, I guess it’s going to continue for quite a while. I’ve tried Her EDP out before, but recently received a sample with an order from Macy’s…so, it’s time to do a full review. How does it smell? How long does it last? Is Burberry Her worth a try?

My Full Review

Let’s see how Burberry describes Her EDP: Effortlessly stylish, energetic, optimistic, adventurous and bold – the spirit of Her, captured in London – a beautiful, bustling, creative metropolis, eclectic and full of life.

Burberry Her opens up with its berry and citrus notes out in full force. I get a sparkling quality from the raspberry, a slight sharpness from the citrus, and a hefty dose of strawberry. On my skin, the strawberry definitely takes the lead early, and never lets it go entirely.

Since this one was designed by Francis Kurkdjian and has plenty of overlap with his famous Baccarat Rouge 540, it often gets compared. This one is much fruitier, has more of a spring/summer vibe, and is missing much of the depth.

Underneath the strawberry, I do get a hint of cherry and the other berry notes really just feel like a generic fruit note. It is sweet somewhat, but not overly so, it’s more bright/sharp/sour…pick your adjective.

One thing that I’ve noticed, is how weak the floral notes are in this mix. The jasmine does poke through later on, but it never grabs much attention. It’s there, just not doing very much. Perhaps, that’s just on my skin.

Later, it becomes muskier, woody, and resembles Cloud by Ariana Grande. Both have that general fruity sweetness, musk, and woods. Cloud is creamier.

That’s pretty much the development of Burberry Her. Bold berry and citrus start. Strawberry with a bit of jasmine. Then, sweet with musk and woods.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

The sillage here is pretty strong at first. Not monstrous, but I was impressed with its ability to project. On a t-shirt, I could smell it from up to about 7 feet away. That was at its peak, once Burberry Her settles, it is more in the 3-4 foot range.

Later, it’s even more intimate. Really, gets soft and very pleasant.

The performance isn’t lacking. This will stick around on my skin for 8 hours of wear. On fabric, it keeps going well past that. So, if you’re into the scent, you definitely get your money’s worth.

Seasonally, I like this best in the warmer weather. I’d keep it mostly to the spring or summertime (when not super hot out). The fruity notes really dominate and it would stick out in winter weather, but it should also be fine in the autumn coolness.

Burberry Her has a youthful vibe to its aroma. It would work for teenagers, but adults can wear this easily, if you’re into the fruity perfumes. It’s pretty crowd pleasing and simple, not at all a formal wear, nor is it cheap and tacky.

Mostly, a daytime casual wear or one that you could go lightly with in the office.

Overall Impressions of Burberry Her

Overall, do I like Burberry Her? I do. I’m not in love with it, though. The Intense version is actually better, in my mind. It just gets overshadowed because of the BR540 comparisons with Her EDP.

The red berry and citrus opening is really great for a while. But, each time I’ve tried to wear this one, it begins to grate on my nerves a bit. It’s not one that I’d need to scrub off or anything, just the intense strawberry and sharp/sour citrus gets somewhat old after a while.

Though, when I do stick with it, I end up liking the dry down of this more. It’s closer to Ariana Grande’s Cloud than it is Baccarat Rouge. Still, Burberry Her is distinct enough from both of them.

It’s funny, this has been so successful that there are starting to even be, supposed perfume ‘dupes’ of Burberry Her.

The floral notes are light on me. I mostly get the cleanliness of musk and wood in the dry down with the strawberry and the mass of whatever is left of the other fruits.

Is this worth a try? Yeah, it’s one to check out. I don’t know that I’d blind buy it, as you might not like the way the berries sit on your skin. It’s not the best perfume out there, but it’s solid and can be a nice choice for the right person.

Weekend for Women by Burberry

I never really liked the men’s version of Weekend by Burberry, as it was pretty bad all around. However, the women’s version was always much more pleasant and attractive, in my opinion. I recently grabbed a sample, with my latest batch, and wanted to finally give this one a full review. How does Weekend perform? How does it smell? Is it actually worth a try?

What does Weekend for Women Smell Like?

My Full Wear Review

Burberry Weekend opens up with a light, sweet nectarine and peach blossom. Right away, however, I notice that this is going to be much more of a floral fragrance than a fruity one.

The hyacinth is quite present immediately and will hang around for the duration of the wear. The composition smells very clean and has a powdery/musk blend to it, as well. I’m thinking clean, like fresh laundry, sort of smell.

Hyacinth, iris, and peach blossom are the main flower petals that I get from this. The rest of them, don’t seem very distinct to my nose, but really well-blended together in this Burberry fragrance.

As it moves on further, it is less like a soapy fresh smell, and feels like being in a flower garden. Sitting outdoors, eating nectarines, with the flowers in full bloom. I like this part of the wear, much more, as it feels closer to a natural aroma.

Finally, what I’m left with is: nectarine, peach blossom, musk, florals, and wood. Sandalwood with a touch of cedar, give it added freshness and balance. Relaxing flower garden, with nectarine, and wood.

Sillage, Longevity, and Versatility

This projects itself moderately. I’d say, somewhere in the 4-6 feet range, around the wearer. Not a complete bomb, by any means, but decent. It does have a lighter airy kind of aroma, not a heavier imposing one.

The longevity is great, not elite, but it’ll go for a long while. I got about 9 hours, from Burberry Weekend, before it disappeared. Definitely good enough for the standard workday.

Weekend, as the name suggests, has a casual and chill vibe. It is best worn during the spring or summertime, when the weather is warm, and sun is shining. It could absolutely be a daily wear to the office, also, as it isn’t going to be one that offends.

It is a pretty and clean fragrance, rather than, a sexy one. It’s attractive enough to get complements, though. An easy perfume to have in the rotation for the warmer months of the year, that can cover a lot of bases.

Overall Impression of Burberry Weekend for Women

Do I like this Burberry scent? I do like Weekend for Women. If it didn’t have the nectarine, it’d probably be too much of a flower garden scent for my taste, but it’s great here.

The middle act and the dry down are lovely. The peach blossom and nectarine pair well with the other notes to give this perfume a naturalistic and pleasant aroma.

The performance is very good, it has a sunny personality, and gives you a clean wear. Is it super exciting? No. Not completely original, either, but it does deliver a versatile and rather beautiful smell.

This is a nice option for those who want a low-key daily wear, or something to put on, when just hanging out.

Update: This does seem to be the same scent as before, but the current bottle has been changed from the original. As of now, Burberry is still selling Weekend.
